Another threat to election officialsAt least four swatting incidents have been aimed at the homes of senior officials who oversee or work to secure elections since December. Separately, a Department of Justice taskforce launched in 2021 has reviewed more than 2,000 allegations of hostility, harassment, abuse, or threats to election officials and staffers, a department spokesperson said. Swatting was featured in a tabletop exercise for election officials in New Jersey last month, a spokesperson for the secretary of state told CNN. WASHINGTON (AP) — Twenty-four Republican-led states filed a lawsuit Wednesday challenging a new Biden administration rule that sets tougher standards for deadly soot pollution. The EPA rule “will drive jobs and investment out of Kentucky and overseas, leaving employers and hardworking families to pay the price,” Coleman said. The soot rule is one of several EPA dictates under attack from industry groups and Republican-led states. Soot pollution has declined by 42% since 2000, even as the U.S. gross domestic product has increased by 52%, Regan said. The EPA said it will work with states, counties and tribes to account for and respond to wildfires, an increasing source of soot pollution, especially in the West.

The national median price of rent for apartments ranging from studios to two-bedroom apartments fell 0.3% year-over-year to in January. Still, prices are over 18% higher than pre-pandemic levels, due to continued strong demand and limited supply in some markets. The national median rent for a two-bedroom apartment was $1,892 in January, down 0.6%, while rent for a one-bedroom was essentially flat at $1,591. Still, even with the uptick, Chicago’s median rent of $1,852 is almost $1,000 less than coastal big cities like New York at $2,844 and Los Angeles at $2,829. But the supply of new multifamily housing is growing, which helps to bring down rental prices, according to the report.

Here, in a 7-by-12-foot room, abortion is being made available to thousands of women in states where it is illegal. The patients do not have to travel here to terminate their pregnancies, and they do not have to wait weeks to receive abortion medication from overseas. Instead, they are obtaining abortion pills prescribed by licensed Massachusetts providers, packaged in the little room and mailed from a nearby post office, arriving days later in Texas, Missouri and other states where abortion is largely outlawed. This service and others like it are operating under novel laws enacted in a half-dozen states — Massachusetts, Washington, Colorado, Vermont, New York and California — that have sought to preserve abortion access since the Supreme Court overturned the nationwide right to abortion in June 2022. The laws have been in use only since the summer and have not been tested in the courts, but they are already providing abortion access to tens of thousands of women in states with bans, especially low-income patients and others who cannot travel.
