And a few specialized kinds of incandescent bulbs — like those that go inside ovens, and bug lights — are exempt. But most if not all other incandescents will struggle to meet the new efficiency standards, and the same goes for a more recent generation of halogen lights. “Going from an incandescent to an LED is like replacing a car that gets 25 miles per gallon with another one that gets 130 m.p.g.,” he said. With the new rules in place, the Department of Energy expects Americans to collectively save nearly $3 billion a year on their utility bills. In the past, a knock on LEDs was that they were more expensive to buy, but prices for LED bulbs have fallen rapidly to near parity with incandescents.

The researchers also found that women were more flexible in their approaches to hunting as they aged. Which weapons they chose, the game they chased and who accompanied them during hunts changed with age and the number of children or grandchildren the hunters had. The details about female hunting patterns were not easy to uncover, Ms. Chilczuk said; the reports often prioritized discussions of the male hunters. But the findings, when they emerged, made a certain sense, she added: If hunting was the chief means of survival, why would only men participate? “I always assumed that women did hunt probably more often than was recognized,” she said.

Bank of America thinks Hasbro's dominance in the in-person gameplay sector will be on full display when the company reports earnings on Thursday. The bank upgraded the stock to buy from neutral on Monday, and increased its price target to $85 from $68. "We spoke with several local game stores (LGS), distributors, players, and collectors and were encouraged to hear strong excitement and demand for this set," Haas said. In this photo illustration, a container of Johnson and Johnson baby powder is displayed on April 05, 2023 in San Anselmo, California. A federal bankruptcy judge on Friday rejected Johnson & Johnson 's second attempt to resolve tens of thousands of lawsuits alleging the company's talc baby powder and other talc-based products caused cancer. J&J in 2021 offloaded those talc liabilities into a new subsidiary, LTL Management, and immediately filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protections. "LTL commenced its bankruptcy case in good faith and in strict compliance with the Bankruptcy Code," J&J said in a statement. J&J contends that research and clinical evidence demonstrates that its talc products remain safe.

While diamonds might look pretty perched atop a ring, the rocks they hail from venture to Earth’s surface in a journey that’s anything but glamorous. Millions of years ago, some of our planet’s strangest and most violent volcanic outbursts dredged from deep underground most of the diamonds mined today in the form of blue-tinged rocks called kimberlites. The turbulent flow punches a carrot-shaped pipe through the ground, ripping out chunks of deep subsurface rock, including some that are studded with diamonds. A new study led by Dr. Gernon and published Wednesday in the journal Nature points to the ancient roots of these eruptions. He and his colleagues report that the breakup of ancient supercontinents like Pangaea and Rodinia caused deep disruptions in the flow of the mantle beneath Earth’s crust, setting off the blasts.

A brief, failed revolt by Russian mercenaries in June raised doubts about Putin's hold on power. It also worried officials in China, which has its own history with "warlords," a US official said. But on Tuesday, J & J was ordered to pay $18.8 million after jurors found in favor of 24-year-old Emory Hernandez Valadez who claimed in his lawsuit that he developed mesothelioma, a deadly cancer linked to asbestos, from exposure to J & J talc products. J & J has said that over 60,000 claimants support its latest $8.9 billion settlement to be paid out over 25 years. Johnson & Johnson issued an official statement following the verdict in favor of Valdez, intending to appeal. Even so, J & J got a few of price target increases on Wall Street on Friday. HulKENberg? Haas driver laughs off his Barbie movie look

BUDAPEST, July 20 (Reuters) - Haas Formula One driver Nico Hulkenberg joked about his Barbie movie vibe after turning up at the Hungarian Grand Prix on Thursday with a striking dyed bleach blond look. "No, not a bet... you know, that Barbie movie came out and I thought a bit of extra PR for me would be pretty handy this time of the season," he said. More seriously, Hulkenberg expected another tough weekend for his U.S.-owned team despite some minor upgrades to the car's floor. That means hard for the first phase, mediums for the second and softs for the final top 10 shootout. Haas are eighth overall after 10 races with Hulkenberg scoring nine of their 11 points to date.

The jury ruled in favor of Emory Hernandez Valadez, who filed suit last year in California state court in Oakland against J&J, seeking monetary damages. The six-week trial was the first over talc that New Brunswick, New Jersey-based J&J has faced in almost two years. Hernandez will not be able to collect the judgment in the foreseeable future, thanks to a bankruptcy court order freezing most litigation over J&J's talc. Jurors heard from Hernandez's mother, Anna Camacho, who said she used large amounts of J&J's baby powder on her son when he was a baby and through childhood. Tens of thousands of plaintiffs have sued, alleging that J&J's baby powder and other talc products sometimes contained asbestos and caused ovarian cancer and mesothelioma.

Johnson & Johnson was ordered to pay $18 million to a man who said he got cancer from baby powder. But these cases are on hold after LTL Management, a subsidiary of Johnson & Johnson, filed for bankruptcy in April. The six-week trial for Valdez's case was the exception, and is the first in two years involving these allegations against Johnson & Johnson. Johnson & Johnson stopped selling talc-based baby powder in 2020, offering a cornstarch-based version instead. Lawyers for Valadez and Johnson & Johnson did not immediately respond to requests for comment sent outside regular business hours.

Veterans say they quit Ron DeSantis's State Guard because training became too militaristic. One recruit accused the guard of becoming "a militia," per the Miami Herald and Tampa Bay Times. DeSantis reestablished the Florida state guard in June 2022, promoting it as a civilian disaster relief force in a "natural disaster-prone state." Florida's State Guard was originally created in 1941 to support the Florida National Guard during World War II, but the unit was disbanded in 1947. Unlike the National Guard, which takes orders from the federal government, the State Guard is under the direct control of the governor.

Of the 150 people accepted into the program, 120 had graduated, program officials said. “We are aware that some trainees who were removed are dissatisfied,” Maj. Gen. John D. Haas, Florida’s adjutant general, said in a statement. “This is to be expected with any course that demands rigor and discipline,” he added. The original plan to field 200 volunteers with a budget of $3.5 million, proposed in late 2021, grew to 1,500 people and $108 million. The first-year budget includes $50 million for five aircraft and $2.7 million for boats — equipment that many experts say is beyond the budget of most State Guards.

Verstappen, who also won Saturday's 100km sprint race and leaves Spielberg's Red Bull Ring with maximum points, stretched his lead over Mexican team mate Sergio Perez to 81 points with his fifth win in a row. It was also the Dutch driver's seventh of a dominant campaign taking him ever closer to a third title. It was also his fifth success at the Red Bull Ring, more than any driver, and left him more than three race wins clear of Perez. The Sprint weekend is always hectic and a lot of things can go wrong but luckily a lot of things went right," said Verstappen. Seven-times world champion Lewis Hamilton was seventh for Mercedes, with team mate George Russell eighth, and Pierre Gasly was ninth for Alpine.

The double world champion lapped his team's home Red Bull Ring with a fastest time of one minute 04.440 seconds on a drying track to complete a qualifying double after securing pole on Friday for Sunday's main grand prix. Red Bull have won all of them, Verstappen six. "It's nice to have a lockout in the Red Bull Ring for the team," said the Mexican, who was 0.493 slower than his team mate. "The sprint race doesn't really matter anyway," said Hamilton, who had his fastest effort deleted for exceeding track limits and was then overtaken by Verstappen while trying to set a valid lap. The race will be the second standalone sprint of the season after Baku, won by Perez in April.

J&J has said its talc products are safe and do not contain asbestos. Attorneys representing cancer victims, along with the U.S. Justice Department's bankruptcy watchdog, have called for LTL's second bankruptcy to be dismissed as an abuse of U.S. bankruptcy law. Cancer victims who oppose the bankruptcy settlement have said that the second bankruptcy recycles a failed legal strategy to keep their cases from being heard by juries. Circuit Court of Appeals, has said he expects to rule on whether to dismiss LTL's second bankruptcy by early August. Erik Haas, J&J's worldwide vice president for litigation, said in a statement last week that the proposed bankruptcy settlement offers a fairer and faster resolution for cancer claimants than litigation in other courts.
