Nvidia 's furious rally to become the king of the megacap stocks has also put it above the entire stock market value of some of the world's largest economies. On Tuesday, Nvidia surpassed $3.3 trillion in market capitalization, moving it ahead of Microsoft as the biggest stock in the U.S. But its market cap had already raced ahead of the cumulative value for entire stock markets in Germany, France and the United Kingdom, measured individually and in U.S. dollars. Only India, Japan, China and the U.S. have stock markets bigger than Nvidia alone, according to Deutsche Bank. The rally has also fueled concerns about the concentration of the U.S. stock market in just a few technology names.

Omaha-based Berkshire is currently No.7 in market value, after a cluster of megacap technology giants. Big AI beneficiary Broadcom, meanwhile, is seeing strong demand from customers in need of high-capacity chips that can power complex AI applications.

Warren Buffett speaks during the Berkshire Hathaway Annual Shareholders Meeting in Omaha, Nebraska, on May 4, 2024. Berkshire Hathaway, an early investor in BYD thanks to the late Charlie Munger, continued to trim its massive stake in China's biggest electric vehicle maker. Warren Buffett's conglomerate has sold an additional 1.3 million Hong Kong-listed shares of BYD for $39.8 million, according to a filing to the Hong Kong Stock Exchange. The conglomerate first bought about 225 million shares of Shenzhen-based BYD in 2008 for about $230 million. Chubb CEO Evan Greenberg told CNBC's Jim Cramer on Thursday that climate change is one factor that's driving the price of insurance. "Climate change has created tremendous volatility, and it continues to evolve," Greenberg said. "And the concentrations of values in areas where, where the climate – the impact of the climate – is greatest continues to increase." Known for insuring businesses and wealthy individuals, Chubb is also a major insurer of agriculture, Greenberg said. "And so, therefore, reflecting loss cost, when you think general inflation, when you think climate change, when you think litigation, that is driving the pricing of insurance."

New York CNN —The New York Stock Exchange is investigating a technical issue on Monday as Berkshire Hathaway and dozens of other stocks are halted. NYSE said the technical issue is related to a mechanism designed to prevent stock prices from swinging wildly. Dozens of stocks are paused because they traded outside those so-called limit up-limit down bands, according to NYSE’s website. Joe Saluzzi, co-founder of Themis Trading, told CNN that the technical issues don’t appear to be impacting the broader market. However, Barrick Gold (GOLD), a Canadian gold and copper producer, was displayed as trading at just 25 cents — down 98.5% on the day, according to Refinitiv.

With short-term rates topping 5%, his massive cash pile, which had been an area of concern when rates were near zero, is now earning Berkshire a substantial return. The investment legend recently said he finds cash attractive compared to other assets, especially stocks. Berkshire's cash position may top $200 billion at the end of the second quarter, he added.
