Washington CNN —TikTok is an addictive drug China’s government is providing to Americans, says the incoming chairman of a new House select committee on China. TikTok, whose parent company, ByteDance, is Chinese-owned, has been banned from electronic devices managed by the US House of Representatives, according to an internal notice sent to House staff. The move comes after more than a dozen states in recent weeks have implemented their own prohibitions against TikTok on government devices. “We have to ask whether we want the CCP to control what’s on the cusp of becoming the most powerful media company in America,” he told NBC. Security experts have said that the data could allow China to identify intelligence opportunities or to seek to influence Americans through disinformation campaigns.

My most successful resolution to date was in 2020, when I vowed to learn how to drive a car. Courtesy of MikeI used to only set unquantifiable New Year's resolutions for myself, like "lose weight." But now I think of resolutions as goals I can accomplish that would be nice for me, not for anyone else. I really just try to frame my resolutions as, "What would make me feel really good this year?" I decided not to spend money on clothing, books, media, and video games, which was really hard because Animal Crossing came out that year.

"And why would they need to bring them to the White House to look into them?" "I don't know," she answered, maintaining that she never took part in the meetings between the White House officials and Republican allies, despite her top security clearance.

Accordingly, the highest APYs you can expect to find on savings accounts today are clustered close to that figure. If your main priority is simply the best rate, some online banks with less name recognition are pushing the envelope even further. Leon says digital institutions tend to be among the most competitive in their rates for CDs as well as savings accounts.

Turning side projects into stand-alone businesses or full-time occupations can be difficult or even impossible for chief marketing officers, whose jobs have become increasingly demanding and complex. “I loved the idea of Paris, especially as a place that I might someday pluck up the courage to start the company,” said Ms. Howard. Dashlane was unaware that Ms. Howard was developing a new company until she announced her resignation, she said. Soon after he left the soft-drink giant, Mr. Cottrill received a call from industry veteran Gary Koepke. New ideas, new challengesWorking on side projects has helped marketers develop different skill-sets and, in some cases, explore new careers.
The loans are also seeing farmers put assets including their land up as collateral, even when the loans are high-interest and have short repayment windows. Taylor Weidman | Bloomberg | Getty ImagesNGOs estimate around 167,000 Cambodians have sold their land to pay microfinance loans over the last five years. A 2016 book published by the World Bank argued microfinance loans had reduced poverty and increased incomes in Bangladesh, and banking giant HSBC still promotes its funding of microfinance in the country. But the World Bank, an early and longstanding advocate of microfinance, has also been warning for years of risks including overindebtedness and the growing commercialization of the industry. In the capital Phnom Penh, she added, she commonly meets people working seven days a week to pay off spiraling MFI loans.
Third-quarter earnings season is finally behind us — and like the prior quarter, results were solid overall compared to analyst forecasts. Danaher (DHR) reported sales and earnings beats on the back of better-than-expected results in all three segments of the health technology company. While U.S. customer traffic was down in the quarter, management noted that it improved sequentially and improved throughout the quarter. Still the luxury hotel and casino company reported solid third-quarter results boosted by its U.S. properties. Amazon (AMZN) reported results that were disappointing, to say the least, and compounded by guidance that was even worse.

So why haven’t retailers taken significant steps to improve the returns process and stop it from imploding their profitability? Photo illustration: Laura KammermannThe first step in solving the problem is to appoint an executive responsible for the end-to-end returns process. Researchers at the University of Tennessee have broken the returns process into five “pathways” to help returns executives better understand improvement opportunities. The best way to mitigate returns costs, of course, is to find ways to limit returns before they happen, in the pre-sale process. As goods move through the returns process, costs and waste increase dramatically.
