The market, in the Fed's case, is the 10-year Treasury yield . However, for both stocks and bonds, the charts can help us understand the underlying trends, patterns and the pertinent support and resistance levels. The first thing to consider is this: The 10-year yield has been leading the Fed since 2018. Coming out of Covid, the 10-year yield bottomed in August 2020 and kept going … the FOMC finally acquiesced, but not until March 2022, initially believing that inflation was transitory. Ironically, the 10-year yield is around the same level now as it was in the 1960s.

Bitcoin pushed higher to end the week as investors took some comfort in the idea that outflows from the Grayscale Bitcoin ETF (GBTC) could be starting to taper off. It's on pace, however, to post a nearly 10% decline for the week. If premarket gains hold, Coinbase is is on pace to end the week up 1% for the week. From the October 2023 low to the end of last year, the ITB soared higher, gaining over 40% in value in just two months. After reaching the 4,700 level in mid-December, the S & P 500 has essentially been rangebound between 4,700 and 4,800. While the S & P 500 has remained rangebound, the NYSE advance-decline line (second panel) has already broken to a new swing low. The next panel shows the percentage of S & P 500 members that are trading above their 50-day moving average. Finally, we have the S & P 500 Bullish Percent Index, which reveals the percentage of S & P 500 members that are currently showing a bullish signal on their point & figure charts. Some closely watched momentum indicators and a bullish overall chart suggest popular AI chipmaker Advanced Micro Devices is headed for new highs in the near future. The stock hit a new 52-week high and now sits 3.6% below the stock's all-time high of $164.46 set in the fourth quarter of 2021. Many chart analysts expect the stock to blow past that level in the near future. "Anytime a stock makes a new all-time high, it tells me something special is taking place with the company," said JC O'Hara, chief technical strategist at Roth Capital Partners. "Investors should be positioned in these risk stocks that typically outperform in a rising market environment and AMD checks that box," he said.

Edge AI, or AI at the edge, refers to the utilization of AI in edge computing, and its growth should have an immense effect on the technology world over the next few years. Given this outlook, Abrams named some of the top companies across technology sectors situated to benefit from AI at the edge. UBS projects more upside ahead, viewing both stocks among the top semiconductors as best situated to benefit from Edge AI. Memory chipmakers also look poised to benefit from Edge AI as devices on the edge require more computing power. But the company has been on the uptrend as demand rebounds, AI server demand booms and commercial customers begin deploying AI PCs later this year and into 2025.

Tight inventory, combined with pent-up demand, kept prices in an uptrend last year despite 23-year-high mortgage rates, according to Selma Hepp, CoreLogic's chief economist. AdvertisementCooling mortgage rates and newly built homes will help bring more houses on the market but won't create enough inventory to outpace demand, wrote Hepp. She isn't expecting much change to mortgage rates but said that they will likely be slightly higher from January to February, in line with historical trends that precede the busy spring sales season. If inflation remains tamed and trending downward, and the Federal Reserve begins cutting rates as a response, declining mortgage rates would follow, she added in an email to Business Insider. I was surprised this week to note the large number of health-care names represented on the new highs list. Here are three stocks in the health-care sector that could provide further upside potential based on their improving technical characteristics. That all changed in November, when BSX finally broke above this well-established resistance level, pushing into the upper $50s this month. From November 2022 to June 2023, AMGN dropped from around $295 to $215, shedding about 27% of its value in just seven months. With any breakouts like this one, it's important to watch the previous resistance level which often serves as price support going forward.

Here's a breakdown of the bitcoin chart and what to watch for to confirm that the cryptocurrency is resuming its long-term trend back to all-time highs. A quick glimpse of BTC's chart shows that the last five months have been peppered with additional breakouts and overbought readings. Bigger picture, this is the most important chart pattern we're watching right now. For bitcoin, that gets us to a target near $66,500, which is right in line with its former, all-time highs. Zooming even further out, last year's bounce allowed bitcoin to maintain the same uptrend line it's been riding for years.
