We saw another EMA crossover in May, signaling the end of the pullback and the start of a new bull run. July 2023 : Although the majority of the current correction unfolded in August, the EMA crossover signal had already appeared in July. For example, in May 2023, waiting for the EMA crossover would have meant missing out on 4.6% of the move. The trade setup: QQQ bull call spread To take a bullish trade on QQQ, I will be using a trade structure called a "bull call spread." For example, if QQQ is trading at $440 at the time of the EMA crossover, one could consider buying a 440-441 call spread.

He was courageous enough to try to do one of the hardest things in running, win a race from the front, wire-to-wire. 😱 A STUNNING upset in the men’s 1500m as AMERICAN COLE HOCKER takes gold! This was the race that all running nerds had circled on their Olympic schedules, but not because of Hocker. Oldest brother Henrik finished fifth in the 1,500 meters at the 2012 Olympics. He said he tried to respond, but ran out of gas – 1500 meters had proven “just 100 meters too much.”“I ruined it for myself by going way too hard,” he said.

Exuberant looters made off with furniture, bedding and potted plants as they swarmed the Bangladesh residence of the prime minister, Sheikh Hasina, after she resigned her office and fled the country, according to local broadcast footage. People scaled the residence’s black gates, the videos showed, throwing items against walls inside, bashing portraits and helping themselves to a spread of food in catering dishes. The footage showed many people with hands and fists raised in celebration and some jumping for joy on the street. Many in the crowd appeared to be filming the event on their own cellphones. Social media posts and live television footage also showed people taking animals from the residence, including chickens, ducks and rabbits, and some people posing with the animals.

Back then, breaking’s fundamental movements provided escapism and expression, competitive and spontaneous physical performance breathed to life by the dawning genre of hip-hop. But breaking — not “break dancing,” a term coined by media and disdained within the breaking community — no longer belongs solely to New York City. In Paris, Olympic breakers representing countries like Japan, Lithuania and Morocco will compete one-on-one in battles waged for a global television audience. Technology like VHS tapes, DVDs and video platforms like YouTube allowed breakers around the world to learn moves and iterate new ones. “That’s why I love it so much, because it’s never the same,” said Menno van Gorp, who will represent the Netherlands.

Here’s what to know about why the quota system has become such a point of contention. An old quota system, reinstated recently by the Supreme Court, reserves more than half of those jobs for various groups. The quota system was introduced in 1972 by Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, who led his country’s fight for independence from Pakistan in 1971. Student protests accompanied the appeal, although they were not as violent as this time. She abolished the quota system in 2018 amid calls for its overhaul.

The S & P 500 5,350 puts I discussed are trading nearly $170 as I write this, up ~ $12,000 per contract. This is even though the S & P 500 is down only 2.3% since I wrote that article over a month ago. One could roll those options down and out to the September 5200/4500 S & P 500 put spread which costs about $100. If you didn't read the earlier article, here are the components of a long put spread, sometimes referred to as a "Bear Put Spread." In periods of high implied volatility, option premiums are generally higher because the market anticipates larger price movements.

CNN —Russia’s pro-Kremlin media know how to create an alternative reality, and last week’s historic prisoner swap was no exception. On Monday, Russian state-backed media outlets treated viewers to lurid footage of the arrests of Wall Street Journal reporter Evan Gershkovich and former US Marine Paul Whelan. And we see a handcuffed Paul Whelan on a hotel bed, flanked by Russian security officers. But in the cases of Gershkovich and Whelan, the aim of the Russian state was to build a bank of human collateral to trade for its valued agents held abroad. But the good news is that Gershkovich is out of Russian custody and can now write the definitive and reliable account of what happened during his arrest.

Kurmasheva rushed into the arms of her husband and daughters on the tarmac after greeting Vice President Kamala Harris and President Joe Biden. The US-backed Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty journalist had been detained in October 2023 and found guilty of spreading false information about the Russian army – charges her family and employer deny. Prepare for a new high-volatility market regime
  + stars: | 2024-08-05 | by ( Katie Stockton | ) www.cnbc.com   time to read: +8 min
A spike in the VIX of this magnitude has not occurred since 2020, when the COVID-19 related decline in the S & P 500 was maturing. We believe another high-volatility regime is upon us, with the prolonged low-volatility regime that preceded it coming to an abrupt halt. If our long-term trend following measures were to deteriorate behind the S & P 500, we would be more inclined to reduce exposure. A rebound in the S & P 500 (i.e., a VIX pullback) can be used to hedge partial exposure from a top-down perspective. The candidates are generally known by late spring. The fall campaign kicks off on Labor Day, at which point the public’s attention turns to the candidates who have spent months preparing for the next eight weeks. The sudden elevation of Kamala Harris to replace President Biden at the top of the Democratic ticket has transformed what had been a long slog between Mr. Biden and former President Donald J. Trump into a 100-day sprint to Election Day. Voters will begin casting ballots in Pennsylvania, one of the critical battleground states, as soon as mid-September. Analysts from both parties said that timeline is likely to benefit Ms. Harris.

PARIS — Bold-talking American sprinting star Noah Lyles arrived at the Paris Olympics announcing his intentions of leaving with four gold medals. The 27-year-old from Virginia won his first Olympic gold medal Sunday by bolting to the 100-meter title in a personal-best 9.79 seconds in front of a deafening, sold-out Stade de France crowd. Lyles froze when it showed he had prevailed by one of the narrowest margins — five-thousandths of a second. Lyles is the first American to win the Olympic 100-meter since 2004. By the finish time, it was one of the hardest gold medals to earn, too.

Thousands of Venezuelans marched across the South American country on Saturday over its contested election, as President Nicolas Maduro told supporters some 2,000 people had been arrested during protests against the results. The published election result sparked widespread allegations of fraud and protests. Subsequently security forces cracked down on protests which Maduro’s government labeled part of an attempted U.S.-backed coup. “This time there will be no forgiveness,” Maduro told supporters at a rally in Caracas, where he said some 2,000 people had been detained in connection to “crimes” during the protests. Darja Stefancic, a painter in Slovenia known for technicolor landscapes, thought it strange when an obscure online art gallery run by a woman from Argentina contacted her out of the blue and asked her to join its thin roster of artists. The painter suspected a scam, and she worried that the gallery, which virtually nobody in Slovenia’s tiny, tight-knit art scene had heard of, “just wanted to cheat people.”It did — but in ways that far surpassed even her darkest suspicions. The online gallery was a front for Russian intelligence, part of an elaborate network of deep-cover sleeper spies trained to impersonate Argentines, Brazilians and other foreign nationals by Russia’s foreign intelligence agency, the SVR, around Europe. They were real-life versions of the fictional stars of “The Americans,” a television series inspired by the 2010 arrest of a ring of actual Russian sleeper agents in the United States.
