CNN —The US government is “intensely tracking” an ongoing threat by Iran against current and former US officials, Secretary of State Antony Blinken said Wednesday. The ministry said in a statement that New York-based PVH (PVH) is suspected of “violating normal market transaction principles” by boycotting cotton sourced from China’s far western region of Xinjiang. Being banned by China would deal a big blow to PVH, which, like other global fashion firms, sources extensively in the country. Western apparel brands have faced pressure in China over their position on Xinjiang cotton before. Iran, for example, has used AI to generate content in Spanish about immigration, which Tehran perceives as a divisive US political issue, the ODNI official said. Russia has generated the most AI content related to the US election of any foreign power, according to the ODNI official. Foreign operatives have also embraced plenty of old-school influence techniques this election cycle, such as staging videos rather than generating them with AI. This isn’t the first general US election where foreign powers have considered deploying AI capabilities.

CNN —The US Commerce Department on Monday will propose a ban on the sale or import of smart vehicles that use specific Chinese or Russian technology because of national security concerns, according to US officials. The rule would not apply to cars already on the road in the US that already have Chinese software installed, a senior administration official told CNN. The software ban would take effect for vehicles for “model year” 2027 and the hardware ban for “model year” 2030, according to the Commerce Department. If millions more smart cars with vulnerable, Chinese-made tech are on US roads, “the risk of disruption and sabotage increases dramatically,” he said. “China opposes the US’s broadening of the concept of national security and the discriminatory actions taken against Chinese companies and products,” said Lin Jian, spokesman for China’s Foreign Ministry, in a statement.
