Cancer is typically associated with older people, but the percentage of colorectal cancer cases in those under 55 doubled between 1995 and 2019, from 11% to 20%, according to the American Cancer Society. However, it's understood that lifestyle factors such as being overweight, being physically inactive, drinking alcohol, and eating lots of red meat and ultra-processed foods increase colon cancer risk, Meredy Birdi, a cancer dietitian based in London, told Business Insider. There's good evidence that eating fiber lowers colorectal cancer risk, she said. She shared three high-fiber lunch recipes that could help prevent colorectal cancer with BI. Earth’s electric and magnetic fields and gravity cause charged particles in the ionosphere to flow away from Earth’s magnetic equator. Typically, plasma bubbles are long and straight because they form along Earth’s magnetic field lines. GOLD observations captured C-shaped and reverse C-shaped plasma bubbles close together in the ionosphere on October 12, 2020, and December 26, 2021. So far, GOLD has only observed two instances of the close pairings, but the C-shaped bubbles have the potential to disrupt communications. “Due to such wide view and continuous measurements, GOLD has allowed us to observe these mysteries within the ionosphere,” Karan said.

Wednesday’s interview-turned-confrontation with reporters at a convention of Black journalists in Chicago made perfectly clear that nothing has changed. Trump’s remarks, he told donors in Maine Wednesday, put on display “a worse version of an already horrible person.”But he also cautioned against focusing too narrowly on the former president’s words. His reaction – his attack on Harris – was largely unprompted and strayed from the reporters’ line of questioning. North Dakota Sen. Kevin Cramer took a different tack, dismissing Trump’s remarks as “satire,” but also suggesting it was “not wise” politically to raise the issue. Why have many Democrats embraced Kamala Harris as their presidential nominee, despite not knowing much about what she believes? We spoke to 14 Democrats as part of our latest Times Opinion focus group, and the answer was clear: Most had been deeply anxious about President Biden, and once he bowed out of the race, they needed a nominee fast. Some of the more liberal or younger participants in the group wondered if Harris is too harsh on criminal justice or on migrants crossing the border. Others don’t know what she would do about the economy — a top concern of theirs — or much else about her. For all that, most of our 14 participants felt more hopeful about Harris than Biden, whose age and inarticulateness left some thinking they would not vote this year.

CNN —Regular aspirin use may keep the oncologist away, at least when it comes to colorectal cancer, according to a new study, and people with unhealthy lifestyles seemed to see the greatest benefit. Colorectal cancer is the second most common cause of cancer death worldwide, predicted to cause more than 52,500 deaths in the US alone in 2023. The use of two or more regular-strength aspirin or six or more low-dose aspirin per week was considered regular aspirin use for the purpose of this research. Those regular users were found to have an 18% lower risk of developing colorectal cancer than non-users. They argue that doctors should weigh different lifestyle risk factors when they determine whether someone should take regular aspirin to prevent colorectal cancer.

Opinion | The Debate Over Gender-Affirming Care
  + stars: | 2024-07-31 | by ( ) www.nytimes.com   time to read: +1 min
Gender Care Is Ignoring Science,” by Pamela Paul (column, July 14):I appreciated the depth and thoughtfulness of Ms. Paul’s column. But as the mother of a trans daughter, I question her conclusion that the evidence is against gender-affirming care, given the confusing mix of information, research, opinion and anecdotes swirling around the issue. We have been through years of family counseling, and she has continued with an individual counselor as well. Now 10, she has expressed to me and my husband extreme distress at the idea of going through puberty as a boy. Since we live in a state that does not allow puberty blockers, we have begun the process of trying to find her care elsewhere.
