CNN —President Joe Biden outraised – and dramatically outspent – the campaign of Republican rival Donald Trump last month, new campaign reports filed Saturday show, raising questions about how long the president’s political team can operate at full throttle if donations dry up. By contrast, Trump’s campaign spent just shy of $10 million, leaving $128 million in its war chest. One fundraiser that proceeded over the weekend in Cape Cod brought in more $2 million, campaign officials said. Trump’s campaign, meanwhile, has consistently spent far less than Biden’s. A super PAC backing Trump’s candidacy, MAGA Inc., meanwhile, entered July with nearly $114 million in available cash.

How Musk could influence Trump’s policiesElon Musk has given Donald Trump his endorsement, and perhaps soon, millions of dollars to help his re-election campaign. A big question now is what Musk would most likely push for if the former president prevails in November. DealBook spoke with Musk watchers to figure out how the Tesla and SpaceX chief could influence a potential second Trump administration. The short of it: Much of the policies he wants would benefit his companies, but some would just line up with his ideology. The Wall Street Journal reported in May that Trumpdiscussed offering Musk an advisory role if he is re-elected.

Millions of travelers pass through Italian airports every year, but most probably don’t know that Rome’s airport is named for Leonardo da Vinci, Pisa’s is named for Galileo Galilei, and Palermo’s is named for Giovanni Falcone and Paolo Borsellino, two prosecutors who were murdered in 1992 as payback for their anti-Mafia crusades. But the decision this month to name Milan’s main international airport after Silvio Berlusconi, the media mogul and former Italian prime minister who died last year at age 86, did not go unnoticed. The renaming of Milan Malpensa Airport as International Airport Milan Malpensa — Silvio Berlusconi has unleashed a maelstrom of protests from left-leaning lawmakers, a barrage of memes and an online petition to block the designation, which as of Wednesday had more than 160,000 signatures. It also has made global headlines. “Why not Bunga-Bunga airport,” said one, in a German-language publication, referring to the sex-fueled bacchanals at Mr. Berlusconi’s villa that he described as merely “elegant dinners.”

MGM Resorts bought the Mirage from Wynn in 2000 and sold it in 2022 for more than $1 billion to Hard Rock International. Joe Biden is still standing, refusing to bow out — he reiterated that once again in a lengthy and mostly successful news conference on Thursday night. Some may view it as selfish and irresponsible. Some may even see it as dangerous. But I see it as remarkable. Despite sending a clear message — in his recent flurry of interviews and rallies, in his stalwart address this week to members of the NATO alliance and in his letter on Monday to congressional Democrats, in which he assured them that “I wouldn’t be running again if I did not absolutely believe I was the best person to beat Donald Trump in 2024” — there’s still a slow drumbeat from luminaries, donors and elected officials trying to write Biden’s political obituary.

When aides to President Biden heard in recent days that George Clooney, as close a figure as there is in Hollywood to royalty, planned to publicly break with Mr. Biden in an essay that cast doubt on his re-election chances, panic set in from Wilmington to Beverly Hills. Could Mr. Clooney be persuaded not to publish it? Mr. Katzenberg, who moonlights as a top Biden official and has worked with Mr. Clooney on philanthropy for decades, reached out to him to see if there was an off-ramp, according to three people familiar with the matter. There was not — Mr. Clooney published his essay in The New York Times, and the president’s relationship with Hollywood was torn asunder. The fallout from the Clooney essay has ricocheted across the worlds of politics and entertainment — and onto Mr. Katzenberg himself.

Manhattan prosecutors on Tuesday said they were “actively pursuing” additional allegations of sexual assault against the disgraced movie mogul Harvey Weinstein ahead of a new trial that was likely to begin in the fall. Nicole Blumberg, an assistant district attorney, said in Manhattan criminal court that her office had identified allegations of rape and sexual assault against Mr. Weinstein that had occurred within the statute of limitations, and that prosecutors planned to ask a grand jury to indict him. She said they were working in a “trauma-informed” manner with his accusers. “In 2020, there were women who were not ready to proceed with the legal process,” she said. “Some of those women are now ready to proceed.”When the judge in the case, Justice Curtis Farber, pressed for a date when a grand jury could hear new charges, Ms. Blumberg could not give one, but she said prosecutors could be prepared to go to trial by the fall, at one point indicating November.

In 1994, when Sumner M. Redstone bought Paramount Pictures for about $10 billion, the equivalent of about $22 billion today, he did more than just take over a company. Perhaps more important, however, they gave their owners a precious identity as certified members of the cultural elite. Top ticket sellers in 1994 included touchstones like “The Lion King,” “Schindler’s List,” “Interview With the Vampire,” “Mrs. Doubtfire,” “Philadelphia,” “Speed” and “Pulp Fiction.” In 1995, when “Forrest Gump” — a Paramount release — won the Oscar for best picture, more than 48 million Americans tuned in to watch. On Sunday, the Redstone family reluctantly relinquished Paramount, passing the studio to David Ellison, the tech scion behind a 14-year-old entertainment company called Skydance.

Some people have built homemade AI tools to help interviewees, releasing them online for free. Others say banning AI chatbots in interviews is like prohibiting calculators during math tests — if workers can use the tech in their jobs, why not in the interview process, too?

During his two-day visit, Modi is expected to attend a private dinner hosted by Vladimir Putin and hold talks with the Russian president, according to India’s foreign ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal. Reducing the trade imbalance would be a “matter of priority” in Modi’s discussions with Putin, he added. Modi’s visit to Russia is also widely seen as the latest dent in efforts by Western leaders to cast Putin aside. Later that year, Putin did not attend the Group of 20 leaders’ summit in New Delhi, during which leaders delivered a consensus statement criticizing his invasion of Ukraine. Following his Russia trip, Modi will visit Austria in the Indian leader’s first visit to the European nation, according to his office.

But he is definitely leaning on the idea that he's building a media company that is also a tech company. That's partly because David Ellison isn't a tech mogul. But this reminds me a bit of the 2015 era when digital publishers like BuzzFeed and Vox Media told investors they weren't media companies but tech companies that made media. The bigger problem with the tech + media pitch isn't that tech and media aren't intertwined. CNN —Paramount Global—the sprawling media empire behind CBS, MTV, and one of Hollywood’s most storied movie studios—has agreed to merge with technology scion David Ellison’s Skydance Media, ending years of speculation over the company’s fate. The complicated transaction will see Skydance first buy National Amusements, then merge with Paramount, valuing Skydance at $4.75 billion.
