But it's still going to be a major force in podcasting for years to come — because it's hanging on to Joe Rogan. Spotify says Rogan, the most popular person in podcasting, will be sticking around the platform via a "multiyear" contract. AdvertisementAll of this makes a lot of sense, given the way that podcasting — and Spotify's commitment to podcasting — has changed. That backing almost certainly helped keep Rogan with Spotify for another deal. So instead, this deal means Rogan gets a reliable income source, and Spotify gets the best-known name in the industry.

Minnesota on Jan. 6 set the record for the biggest crowd to attend a professional women's hockey game with 13,316 at the Wild's home arena in St. Paul. “We’ll continue to lean in and work with the women’s players and have them as part of our world,” Mayer said. “It just makes it a better event.”The only thing that would be better, Coyne Schofield said, is having every PWHL player taking part.

But there's some unexpected good news: The rate of new gonorrhea cases fell for the first time in a decade. Total cases surpassed 207,000 in 2022, the highest count in the United States since 1950, according to data released Tuesday. About 59,000 of the 2022 cases involved the most infectious forms of syphilis. STD testing was disrupted during the COVID-19 pandemic, and officials believe that's the reason the chlamydia rate fell in 2020. “We are encouraged by the magnitude of the decline,” Mermin said, though the gonorrhea rate is still higher now than it was pre-pandemic.

PARK CITY, Utah (AP) — Filmmaker Yance Ford was in a “Sundance haze” when he took a meeting with Netflix following the premiere of “Strong Island” in 2017. “Strong Island” would go on to get an Oscar nomination, too, as would its Sundance and Netflix peer “Icarus,” which would win best documentary in 2018. “Netflix understood what ‘Strong Island’ was doing and what it could say to a big, broad audience.”Ten years after “The Square,” an acquisition that put Netflix documentaries on the map, the streamer is back at the 40th Sundance Film Festival with an eye towards acquisitions and two very different originals. “We really were the new kids on the block trying to persuade filmmakers that having the reach of the platform was something that was really important,” Del Deo said. “I think it's going to put a lot of smiles on people,” Del Deo said.

Given the cancellations, the streaming giant's viral Spotify Wrapped campaign might soon be overshadowed by a new mantra: "Spotify Scrapped." LONDON (AP) — A lawyer for Prince Harry on Tuesday challenged the U.K. government’s decision to strip him of his security detail after he gave up his status as a working member of the royal family and moved to the United States. Harry, whose wife is biracial, cited what he said were racist attitudes and unbearable intrusions of the British media in his decision to leave the United Kingdom. Eadie also said there was a cost factor, because security funds aren’t unlimited. Harry said the committee unfairly nixed his security request without hearing from him personally and didn't disclose the panel’s composition, which he later learned included royal family staff. The case is one of five that Harry has pending in the High Court.

By Michael HoldenLONDON (Reuters) - Prince Harry has been subjected to "unlawful and unfair treatment" by the British government over the decision to take away his police protection when he is in Britain, his lawyer told London's High Court on Tuesday. Harry, along with other senior royals, had received full security protection provided by the state before he decided to step back from his royal duties and move to California with his American wife Meghan in 2020. Shaheed Fatima, the lawyer for Harry - who was not in court, said he had been subjected to unlawful and unfair treatment. She said the Executive Committee for the Protection of Royalty and Public Figures, known as RAVEC, had not followed its own policy or treated Harry as it treated other figures. In May, the High Court ruled against Harry after he challenged the government's refusal to let him pay for his own police protection.
