Read previewShares of insurance giant Globe Life Inc. plunged 53% today and trading was halted eight times after a short-seller issued a damning narrative on the company. (Globe Life, AIL, and the other defendants denied the allegation in a legal filing.) Meanwhile, Warren Buffett's Berkshire Hathaway sold all 6.35 million shares of Globe Life stock the investor once held. In his April 3 presentation to investors, Koppikar called Globe Life "a dead-end pyramid scheme." He predicted that the DOJ investigation will hinder recruiting, "which is the lifeblood for pyramid schemes like Globe Life."

AI Agents The launch of "AI Agents" demonstrated the real-world applications of Alphabet's generative AI advancements — a key box that investors want to see checked in the search for money-making opportunities . These applications are clearly the next phase of the generative AI revolution beyond the development of LLMs and deployment of general-purpose chatbots. So, too, will their customers that harness the power of the AI agents to better serve their own clients, increase employee productivity, and drive corporate efficiencies. Updates to Vertex AI Alphabet updated Vertex AI — its platform for building and deploying AI models — to include an agent-building feature. Russia has become increasingly reliant on Iranian drones to fight its war in Ukraine. At least six countries have ramped up production of Iranian drones in the last two years, according to a Bloomberg report this week, bringing the total number of countries producing drones with Iran's help to at least a dozen. The issue has become of particular importance as Russia becomes more reliant on Iranian tech to produce its drones for the war in Ukraine. Meanwhile, Iran is pocketing foreign money in exchange for its much-coveted drone tech and expertise. Washington CNN —President Joe Biden told reporters at the White House Wednesday that his administration is “considering” a request from Australia to drop charges against Wikileaks founder Julian Assange. In February, the Australian Parliament approved a motion calling for Assange to be released to his home country of Australia. Asked Wednesday about Australia’s call to end Assange’s prosecution, Biden told reporters at the White House, “We’re considering it.” CNN has reached out to the National Security Council for additional comment on the president’s remark. US authorities say Assange, 52, put lives at risk by publishing secret military documents and have for years been seeking his extradition on espionage charges. If the US fails to give these, Assange would be allowed to appeal his extradition at a hearing in May.

CNN —House Republicans leading the impeachment inquiry into President Joe Biden were dealt their latest blow this week when the CIA informed them that an allegation they pushed was false, the latest example of House Republicans citing questionable information to make a serious claim. But the CIA has refuted that claim in a letter obtained first by CNN that was sent to Jordan and Comer. House Republicans are pushing back on the refutation. “I’ve made a document production in conjunction with the grand jury investigation,” Morris testified in his closed-door interview with Republicans conducting the inquiry in January. Republicans have raised questions about why Morris lent the president’s son millions of dollars and have sought to connect him to their impeachment inquiry into President Biden.

If she does not course-correct, she’s headed for another shellacking by the circuit – and possible removal from the case. That statute outlines the parameters between a president’s official and personal records, and sets up processes for how official documents are preserved. If this were true, the mere fact that Trump took the documents with him from the White House would inherently turn them into personal records. Importantly, Smith asked Cannon to let both parties know “promptly” how she viewed the law. Ejecting her from the case would be extremely unusual and Smith does not mention seeking it in his papers.

In an unusual order last month, Cannon asked attorneys on the classified documents case to submit briefs on potential jury instructions defining terms of the Espionage Act, under which Trump is charged over mishandling 32 classified records. Specifically, Cannon asked the special counsel and defense attorneys to write two versions of proposed jury instructions. Trump’s attorneys claim he did have that authority and have asked the judge to throw out the criminal charges. “Medical science has not yet devised an instrument which can record what was in one’s mind in the distant past,” Trump’s attorneys wrote. Cannon appeared skeptical that the charges should be outright dismissed during the hearing, but she said that Trump’s attorneys were making “forceful” arguments that may be appropriate to present to a trial jury.

CNN —Former Donald Trump adviser Peter Navarro asked the Supreme Court to take another look at his request to avoid prison, filing a long-shot request on Tuesday that the high court rarely grants. In an emergency request last month, Navarro asked the Supreme Court to let him remain free while he challenged his contempt of Congress conviction before the federal appeals court in Washington, DC. Chief Justice John Roberts denied that request March 18, and Navarro reported to prison the following day. Supreme Court rules allow parties whose emergency applications are denied by a single justice to resubmit that request to another justice. In a brief letter Tuesday, Navarro’s attorneys asked Justice Neil Gorsuch, Trump’s first nominee to the court, to review his request.

Former President Donald Trump shared a video on social media Friday that included an image of President Joe Biden bound and restrained in the back of a pickup truck. The 20-second video, which Trump indicated was taken Thursday in Long Island, New York, shows a truck emblazoned with "Trump 2024" and a large picture depicting Biden tied up and lying on his side. When reached for comment on the image in the video, Trump campaign spokesperson Steven Cheung said, "That picture was on the back of a pick up truck that was traveling down the highway." Biden campaign spokesman Michael Tyler slammed Trump for posting the video. Trump faces four criminal indictments for charges related to allegations of election interference, mishandling classified documents and falsifying business records related to hush money payments.

CNN —The Kremlin’s security services were aware of an ISIS threat days before a deadly attack on a concert hall near Moscow, Russian intelligence documents obtained by a UK-based investigative organization suggest. The Dossier Center is a Russian investigation group backed by Mikhail Khodorkovsky, an exiled former Russian oil tycoon turned Kremlin critic. “Even before the attack on Crocus City Hall, a source close to the intelligence services told the Dossier Center about this,” it added. The following year, German police arrested several people from Tajikistan accused of plotting an attack on Cologne Cathedral, according to the Dossier Center. According to the Dossier Center, Russian law enforcement was monitoring all these reports and “considered the risk” to Russia.

London CNN —WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange has fended off the threat of immediate extradition to the United States after the High Court in London asked the US to provide more assurances. Navarro’s stint in prison comes as Trump himself has yet to face criminal consequences for the various crimes he’s been accused of committing. Navarro made a last-ditch bid for a Supreme Court intervention that would put off his self-surrender to prison. Yet the number of times the DOJ agreed to prosecute a witness for contempt of Congress are extremely low. He was charged in June 2022 with two counts of contempt of Congress and was found guilty on both counts last September. He was no longer in the White House during the period the House committee was probing.

Multiple insurance firms have balked at Trump’s attempt to finance the bond based on the value of his real estate assets. As always with Trump, there is a legal front and a political one. His claims are inaccurate but appear to be politically effective among his supporters who revile political and legal elites in Washington. Therefore, there are good reasons why James – a Democrat – may seek other legal remedies to secure the judgment. Although his case is historic, Navarro is far from the only ex-Trump associate to serve time in jail.

Most projects use AI models from leading LLM providers like OpenAI, Anthropic, and Cohere. My main advice for businesses interested in adopting AI is to familiarize yourself with large language models and how they could be used to address specific pain points. After that, collect as much data as possible — from meeting recordings to marketing materials — that can be used to fine-tune the AI models.
