Germany ready to end long-term striker conundrum

DOHA, Nov 20 (Reuters) - Germany's eight-year experimentation in attack looks to be coming to an end at the World Cup in Qatar with coach Hansi Flick having opted to include natural centre forwards in his squad. Since the retirement of all-time leading World Cup scorer Miroslav Klose following their 2014 World Cup victory in Brazil, the Germans have tried a variety of attacking systems mainly with wingers deployed as false nines but with little success. Youssoufa Moukoko, the youngest player at this World Cup at 18, is a striker from a different generation than Fuellkrug. While he is unlikely to start, the teenager will no doubt be deployed, especially following injuries to centre forward Lukas Nmecha and forward Timo Werner who did not travel to Qatar. Reuters —Paris-born actor and singer Robert Clary, who survived 31 months in Nazi concentration camps but later co-starred in “Hogan’s Heroes,” the US sitcom set in a German World War II prisoner of war (POW) camp, has died at the age of 96. “Hogan’s Heroes” starred Bob Crane as American Colonel Robert Hogan, with Richard Dawson, Larry Hovis and Ivan Dixon playing other POWs. “Hogan’s Heroes” was popular with TV viewers during its run on the CBS network and for decades afterward in syndication even though some critics considered it in bad taste. In 1980, alarm over people trying to deny the Holocaust prompted Clary to end his self-imposed silence about his experiences. He also wrote an autobiography, “From the Holocaust to Hogan’s Heroes.”“We must learn from history,” Clary told the Reno Gazette-Journal in 2002, “which we don’t.”

He says the 'total return era' of high, stable returns across asset classes might be gone for good. Reddy explained his ideas about what to buy to get solid returns at smart levels of risk. But buying everything only works if all of those structural factors are sending demand and asset prices steadily higher, Reddy said. Younger workers tend to spend more and save less, which means greater demand and more inflation pressure, Reddy said. "If you have a higher inflation environment, you need to take some kind of risk."

Oct 25 (Reuters) - Ukraine's external financing needs will be around $3 billion a month through 2023 in a best-case scenario, but could rise as high as $5 billion if Russian bombing becomes "even more dramatic," IMF Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva said. She said IMF staff had met with Ukrainian authorities in Vienna last week to discuss the country's financial needs and were working toward a fully-fledged IMF lending programme. Georgieva strongly endorsed Ukraine's calls for a mechanism to coordinate financial needs and support, a message echoed by Odile Renaud-Basso, president of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, and other speakers. We are going to be a part of the solution during this recovery phase," the IMF leader said. "And in a worst case scenario, if the bombing is even more dramatic ... it could go to $5 billion a month."

Logistics CEOs told Insider the picture going into peak season is less clear than in past years. "The consumer is going to have much more choice and availability," Malcolm Wilson, CEO of logistics firm GXO, told Insider. But no one knows if the customers will show up or not," Rubin told Insider. A "smooth" peak isn't necessarily a bad peak — what's almost certain though is that it will look bad compared to last year. "When I look at our customer base, what I see is a degree of optimism about the future, they're continuing to invest," Wilson told Insider.

A once-bustling logistics mergers-and-acquisitions market is quieting down as slipping freight demand and higher borrowing costs dampen deal making in the sector. Company valuations are moderating in a softening freight market and rising borrowing costs are making deals tougher to complete. The market for freight and logistics companies surged during the pandemic as retailers sought to rush goods to consumers, fueling strong growth in shipping demand, higher freight rates and record profits for companies ranging from regional truck operators to international freight forwarders. Foreign-based ocean carriers and freight forwarders have also shown great interest in the U.S. logistics market as they seek to expand their end-to-end supply-chain services. But logistics companies looking to expand their reach and private-equity firms looking to expand existing logistics portfolios are still hunting deals.

Insider analyzed government data to see just how much the company pays for thousands of roles. That's more than half the number of such workers the company hired in all of 2021, according to a previous analysis by Insider. The company is now conducting what some workers are referring to as "quiet layoffs," too, through new performance evaluations. Chelsea, campioana Europei, pregătește o ofertă de 150 de milioane de lire sterline pentru a-i convinge pe cei de la Borussia să-i dea drumul, scrie 90min.com.
