REUTERS/Richard Brian Acquire Licensing RightsSept 6 (Reuters) - Wall Street investor Boaz Weinstein and his group of bidders have revised their offer to buy hedge fund firm Sculptor Capital Management (SCU.N), Bloomberg News reported on Wednesday, citing people familiar with the matter. The group, called Bidder J, which includes Bill Ackman, Marc Lasry and Jeff Yass, as well as Weinstein, made the offer for Sculptor last month. Sculptor Capital Management and Weinstein's Saba Capital Management didn't immediately respond to Reuters requests for comment on Wednesday. Sculptor chose to stay with Rithm's $11.15 per share bid, saying the Bidder J offer had "significantly less certainty of closing."

LOS ANGELES (AP) — “That ’70s Show” star Danny Masterson could get as much as 30 years to life in prison at his sentencing Thursday for the rapes of two women two decades ago. A jury of seven women and five men found Masterson guilty of two counts on May 31 after seven days of deliberations. The women blamed the church for their hesitancy in going to police about Masterson. Masterson was not charged with any counts of drugging, and there was no toxicology evidence to back up the assertion. Masterson starred with Ashton Kutcher, Mila Kunis and Topher Grace in “That ’70s Show” from 1998 until 2006.

[1/4] The 80th Venice Film Festival - Photocall for the film "The Palace" out of competition - Venice, Italy, September 2, 2023. REUTERS/Yara Nardi Acquire Licensing RightsVENICE, Sept 2 (Reuters) - The producer of Roman Polanski's latest movie, "The Palace", bemoaned the fact that no one wanted the distribution rights for the film in the United States, Britain and France, saying morality should not weigh on art. One of the most successful directors of his generation, Polanski fled the United States over a conviction for raping a 13-year-old girl in 1977, a crime he admitted. After the #MeToo movement gained global traction in 2017 following sexual abuse allegations against U.S. film producer Harvey Weinstein, a number of women alleged that Polanski had sexually assaulted them as teenagers as well. The producer Luca Barbareschi said he had sold distribution rights across continental Europe, but not in France, Britain or the United States, despite the fact well-known actors from all three countries appeared in the film.

A coterie of high-profile investors, including Bill Ackman of Pershing Square, Boaz Weinstein of Saba Capital Management and Marc Lasry of Avenue Capital Group, is pushing to buy Sculptor Capital, the successor to the storied hedge fund Och-Ziff — even though the fund has already agreed to sell itself to another investment firm. On Thursday, they gained an important supporter. That deal would value the firm’s class A shares at $11.15, around 18 percent more than they were worth the day it was announced. But shares of the hedge fund have fallen significantly over a longer period, dropping 60 percent over the past two years. The consortium’s most recent offer for Sculptor, disclosed on Wednesday, would value it at about $12.76 for each of its class A shares.

Cruise lines are seemingly adopting the budget airline model: Charge a base fare and pile on extras. Newer cruise ships have "more opportunities to upsell" with restaurant and entertainment options. In fact, cruise lines have told their investors recently that passengers are embracing these add-on costs — and enhancing their bottom lines. NEW YORK, July 28 (Reuters) - Two hedge funds have placed bets that bonds issued by life insurance company Lincoln National Corp (LNC.N) will fall or that its default risk will increase, due to their concerns about the company's commercial real estate (CRE) exposure. Lincoln declined to provide comments on the hedge funds' positions and referred to previous remarks by its management. Fitch Ratings' senior director Jamie Tucker said in an email to Reuters the agency considers Lincoln's CRE exposure modestly below-average compared with the industry, while the quality is materially stronger. In April, Boaz Weinstein, founder of New York-based Saba, said in a post the firm was holding some of Lincoln's credit default swap (CDS), and had already sold some of it. loadingLincoln's CDS spread, a measure of credit risk, is 238 basis points, compared with 323 when Saba disclosed the position, meaning the perceived risk has declined.

The messaging seemed to suggest that Hunter Biden's art patrons came from a rarified universe of collectors who had nothing to do with the hurly burly of politics. Hunter Biden did in fact learn the identity of two buyers, according to three people directly familiar with Hunter Biden's own account of his art career. In the past, Hunter Biden has privately suggested that he could arrange to have friends seated on the commission. A convicted Ponzi schemer, whose prison sentence President Donald J. Trump commuted in one of his last official White House acts, is facing new fraud federal charges of bilking investors in a series of phony deals. The man, Eliyahu Weinstein, a former used car salesman from Lakewood, N.J., was serving a 24-year sentence in connection with two schemes, when Mr. Trump freed him from prison in January 2021. One involved defrauding members of his tight-knit Orthodox Jewish community out of more than $200 million. On Wednesday, federal prosecutors in New Jersey charged Mr. Weinstein, 48, along with four other men, with defrauding at least 150 people out of $35 million. “These were brazen and sophisticated crimes that involved multiple conspirators and drew right from Weinstein’s playbook of fraud,” Philip R. Sellinger, the U.S. attorney for New Jersey, said at a news conference.
