Stratechery founder Ben Thompson believes that Apple's Vision Pro is the "future of the Mac." The Vision Pro will start at $3,499, which is a steep price, likely signaling the cost of manufacturing a complex product. An example of what Apple Vision Pro may look like at work. Those who attended WWDC in person and were able to try the Vision Pro have said that it's a product in search of a purpose. Apple Vision Pro AppleThompson notes that Apple is using "high-bandwidth connections" to share desktop screens with the Vision Pro, suggesting it might create a direct WiFi connection between the two devices to prevent lag.

New York CNN —Months after Apple unveiled a privacy change that threatened Facebook’s core advertising business, the social networking company rebranded as Meta and shifted its focus to virtual reality. Apple (AAPL) on Monday unveiled its mixed reality headset, the Vision Pro, in one of its most ambitious product launches in years. On Thursday, just days before WWDC, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg tried to preempt the expected Apple headset announcement by teasing the Meta Quest 3. Apple on Monday unveiled its first-ever virtual reality headset, challenging Facebook-owner Meta in a market that has yet to gain widespread consumer adoption. Apple chose not to focus on the term “virtual reality,” nor did it show off disembodied avatars without legs inhabiting a virtual world, as Meta did initially.

Wall Street Journal gadget reviewer Joanna Stern got to try out Apple's new Vision Pro. Stern's video then zooms in, the contrast and lighting shifts, and you see this…WSJ tech reviewer's forehead looks red after she wore an Apple Vision Pro WSJ/Joanna Stern/YouTubeYikes! Apple told Stern any discomfort she encountered after wearing Vision Pro goggles may have been because it only had limited-sized "light seals" at the demonstration space. Apple's Vision Pro is constructed of aluminum alloy and a snazzy single piece of exterior glass, which is why it looks so much nicer than the competition. Apple announced its Vision Pro headset at the WWDC on Monday. There's one product which has been making all the headlines from Apple's WWDC on Monday. The Vision Pro headset marks the tech giant's foray into the metaverse — although the company stayed clear of using that branding. Check out the symphony of boos, groans, and sighs as the Cupertino crowd is told Apple's headset will start at $3,499. "The Vision Pro is Apple's attempt at cracking open the extended reality (XR) door to create an addressable market with iterations of Vision Pro in the years to come."

Apple unveiled a bunch of new features at its WWDC on Monday. That included "Live Voicemail" which delivers a transcript so users can decide if they want to pick up a call. One example of the tech featured a man preparing to bathe some raccoons he discovered in the basement. While most people were focused on the Vision Pro headset and its enormous pricetag, Apple unveiled a host of updates to its existing products. But it definitely suits the advertised tone of an urgent phone call, and one imaginative copywriter has brought more eyes to this feature that might've otherwise gone under the radar.

Called the Vision Pro, the $3,499 headset is Apple's vision for the future of personal computing. Apple on Monday held its annual WWDC keynote, where the company unveiled its much-anticipated mixed-reality headset that it's calling the Vision Pro. Regardless, the Vision Pro represents Apple's vision for the future of personal computers. But perhaps the Vision Pro with its signature Apple build quality and iOS integration is what the AR/VR industry needed all along to go mainstream. Below are the most interesting Vision Pro features:

Apple CEO Tim Cook arrives for the season three premiere of "Ted Lasso" at the Regency Village Theater in Los Angeles, California, on March 7, 2023. Apple CEO Tim Cook said recently that he uses ChatGPT, the AI chatbot, and is excited about the tool's "unique applications." Cook added that large language models — the AI tools that power chatbots like OpenAI's ChatGPT and Google's Bard — show "great promise" but also the potential for "things like bias, things like misinformation [and] maybe worse in some cases." The Apple CEO also offered his thoughts on regulation and guardrails, saying they're needed but that AI is powerful and the tech's development is moving quickly. "If you look down the road, then it's so powerful that companies have to employ their own ethical decisions," Cook said.

related investing news Here's what analysts are saying about Apple's new Vision Pro headset The promise of Apple's new mixed-reality headset isn't really about the headset I got to take one for a test drive. The Vision Pro isn't large enough to fit glasses if you wear them. Even though most of the focus with Apple Vision is on the visuals, I was equally impressed by the audio. The Vision Pro has a pair of speakers that sit near your temples and provide a surround sound effect. But as someone who has tried just about every mainstream headset to date so far, I can tell you that Vision Pro feels like a $3,500 machine.

The Nerd Helmet, as coined by The Wall Street Journal's Joanna Stern, has arrived! Apple on Monday unveiled its first hardware release in almost a decade: The $3,499 Vision Pro mixed-reality headset. But while Meta has aimed to make VR/AR affordable for the masses, with limited success, Apple is squarely aiming the Vision Pro at early adopters and developers. Apple's Vision Pro headset has an exterior "EyeSight" display to make your eyes visible to others around you. Say hello to the Vision Pro.

Apple execs didn't mention AI once during the company's WWDC keynote. It was a deliberate choice and a stark contrast to other Big Tech companies that have embraced the term. During Microsoft, Meta, Alphabet, and Amazon's first quarter earnings calls in April, AI was cumulatively mentioned 168 times, for example. Most other Big Tech companies would likely tout these as "AI innovations" to appeal to the current enthusiasm around the term. The word wasn't mentioned one time during the entire keynote, even though many rivals would likely use the word to describe the Vision Pro headset.

Apple's mixed-reality headset debut marks a "watershed moment" for the industry, said the executives of some major players in the augmented and virtual reality space as they welcomed competition for the U.S. tech giant. Cher Wang, Taiwanese tech giant HTC's CEO, told CNBC that she sees Apple's move as a validation for the industry. HTC has long been a mainstay of the virtual and augmented industry, pivoting from its ailing smartphone business several years ago to focus on its Vive headsets division. Apple says the Vision Pro will allow users to see apps in a new way in the spaces around them. With the headset, users can watch movies, including in 3D with spatial audio, view their own pictures or videos, and play video games.

Apple's about to kick off WWDC 2023 where it's expected to unveil its highly-anticipated VR headset. Apple also typically uses the event to preview new software for the iPhone, iPad, Mac and Watch. Analysts and media reports say Apple could unveil a virtual reality headset that can also show the user the real world through high-powered cameras mounted on the device — a concept often called mixed reality. If Apple does release a headset, it will be its first major new product line since it announced the Apple Watch in 2014. Apple could also unveil updates to some of its other hardware, like the Mac line of computers, which developers use to write software for Apple's devices.
