Indexes hit fresh all-time highs ahead of the key inflation report for September due Thursday. AdvertisementUS stocks jumped on Wednesday as traders looked ahead to coming inflation data and took in the minutes of the Federal Reserve's last meeting. The stakes of the next inflation reading have risen after the big September jobs number, and Wall Street could be in for some volatility in the event of an upside surprise, Bank of America said this week. Central bankers predicted inflation would fall to 2% by 2026, while risks to economic strength were "tilted to the downside." According to the CME FedWatch tool, the odds for another jumbo-sized rate cut in 2024 have fallen to zero.

A blockbuster jobs report raises the stakes for upcoming inflation data, BofA analysts say. AdvertisementThe September jobs report was good news, but it gives investors more reason to brace for the next inflation reading, Bank of America analysts say. Economists forecast the CPI report will show inflation continued to cool last month, rising 2.3% year-over-year compared to 2.5% in August. AdvertisementHowever, with the blockbuster September jobs report, some economists say inflation is still a concern. The September jobs report blew past forecasts, with 254,000 nonfarm payrolls added compared to expectations of 150,000.

Inflation could be a market-driving fear again this week when September data is released, according to Bank of America. But last week's stronger-than-expected jobs report has shaken up the consensus outlook for the economy. "After the blowout jobs report, CPI is no longer a 'non-event.' The CPI report is due out before the opening bell Thursday. Economists surveyed by Dow Jones expect the CPI report to show a 0.1% increase in September and a 2.3% rise from 12 months earlier.

The virtual event, organized by Emgage Action, which endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris last week, was the most direct pitch yet to conflicted Muslim and Arab voters from her or Walz. “As-Salaam-Alaikum,” Walz said on the call, using the Arabic greeting, before he turned to the war on many Arab and Muslim voters’ minds. Some Muslim activists and elected officials they say are disappointed to have heard little from the Harris campaign since then. During the campaign, some disaffected Muslim and Arab voters have flocked to third-party candidates like Jill Stein and Cornel West, both of whom picked Muslim running mates and have courted pro-Palestinian voters. “We understand that some Muslim voters, any voter, may feel a moral dilemma voting for [Harris].

Shares of Moller-Maersk slumped more than 8% on the Friday market open as European shipping companies fell on the conclusion of a U.S. port strike. Maersk shares pared losses slightly to trade down 7.05% by 9:05 a.m. London time. Thursday's deal ended a strike that had choked U.S. East Coast and Gulf Coast ports since the start of the week and threatened U.S. supply of fruits, pharmaceuticals and automobiles, among other goods.

"I tell you, I have never voted for a Democrat, but this year, I am proudly casting my vote for Vice President Kamala Harris," Cheney told the crowd. Cheney said in September that both she and her father, Republican former Vice President Dick Cheney, would be voting for Harris over their party's nominee, former President Donald Trump. The Harris campaign has been looking for ways to take advantage of opposition to Trump within the Republican party. Since then, a small but growing number of prominent Republicans have come out in support of Harris' presidential campaign, including former Trump White House aide Cassidy Hutchinson and the Cheneys. "We have plenty of policy disagreements with Vice President Harris.

Joseph “Lyle” Menendez, now 56, and Erik Menendez, now 53, were convicted in 1996 in the shotgun murders of their parents at their Beverly Hills homes seven years before. In their initial trials, the brothers said they had been sexually abused for years by their father. The district attorney's announcement came amid controversy over a new Netflix series about the case, “Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story." U.S. crude oil prices rose nearly 2% on Thursday for a third consecutive session of gains, as the market braces for Israel to retaliate against Iran. The risk of oil supply disruptions increases as fighting in the Middle East intensifies, but OPEC+ is sitting on a large amount of spare crude that could step into the breach, according to Claudio Galimberti, chief economist at Rystad Energy. U.S. crude oil has gained 5% this week. "That would add a significant risk premium to oil," he told CNBC's "Street Signs Europe." As a consequence, oil prices could surge to $200 per barrel if Israel hits Iran's oil infrastructure, he said.

Modelo and Corona brewer Constellation Brands is a tale of two businesses. Constellation Brands Why we own it : Constellation Brands' beer franchise, which includes popular Mexican brands Modelo, Corona and Pacifico, is the growth engine and by far the most attractive part of the business. And, the profitability of its beer business — operating margins were an impressive 42.6% in the quarter — puts Constellation in a position of strength. Still, raising an anchor is always welcome news, and talk of its booming beer business would, at last, no longer need the wine-and-spirits caveat. Looking ahead, its beer business should continue grabbing market share and its hard to imagine the wine-and-spirits unit getting much worse.
