CNN —One person has died and eight people have been hospitalized after an outbreak of botulism in a restaurant in the French city of Bordeaux, according to a statement from France’s public health body on Wednesday. It is thought that the diners ate sardines in a home-made oil preserve, which was contaminated with botulism bacteria. They all dined at the Tchin Tchin wine bar from September 4 to September 10, Public Health France said. France’s public health agency has warned anyone who visited the restaurant and has shown any symptoms of botulism to immediately seek medical help. Thierry Despont, the worldly, erudite French architect and designer whose rich sense of history and heritage brought a refined elegance to the grand homes of industry titans like Bill Gates and Calvin Klein, as well as to the restoration of landmark projects like the Statue of Liberty, the Woolworth Building and the Ritz Paris, died on Aug. 13 at his home in Southampton, N.Y. His death was confirmed in a statement provided by his family. No cause was specified. A native of Limoges, France, Mr. Despont moved to New York in 1980 and quickly rose to a position of influence in the global architecture and design world. He was an officer of the Legion of Honor, the highest French honor, and was named to the Architectural Digest AD100 2023 Hall of Fame.

Under the EU's Digital Services Act (DSA), TikTok's owner ByteDance, Alphabet unit Google (GOOGL.O), other large online platforms will be required to police illegal content on their platforms, prohibit certain advertising practices, and share data with authorities. But after TikTok agreed to a voluntary "stress test" last month, EU industry chief Thierry Breton said "more work" was needed for the firm to be fully compliant. "We will continue to not only meet our regulatory obligations, but also strive to set new standards through innovative solutions," the company said.
