The Harris campaign is showing new strength in must-win states ahead of the party's convention. In Michigan, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin, Harris leads Trump 50% to 46% among likely voters. AdvertisementVice President Kamala Harris' presidential campaign is less than a month old but the latest New York Times/Siena College polls already show her leading former President Donald Trump in the critical battlegrounds of Michigan, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin. Before President Joe Biden left the presidential race in July, he held a small advantage over Trump in an earlier Times/Siena survey of Wisconsin, but trailed the former president in Michigan and Pennsylvania. Biden's standing in those states had deteriorated and threatened not only his reelection bid but that of down-ballot candidates too.

Lindsey Graham, a close ally of Trump, even acknowledged to the Post that the campaign has "hit a few speed bumps." Tim Walz “misspoke” in a newly resurfaced video from 2018 in which he said he handled assault weapons “in war,” a Harris campaign spokesperson told CNN on Saturday. “We can make sure those weapons of war, that I carried in war, are only carried in war,” Walz said in the video. Lauren Hitt, a Harris campaign spokesperson, said in a statement the governor misspoke in the clip. The clarification from the Harris campaign comes as the Trump campaign has sought to discredit Walz’s military service in the days since he joined the Democratic ticket. “What bothers me about Tim Walz is the stolen valor garbage,” Vance said.

The poll found Harris beating Trump 50% to 46% among likely voters in all three states, though those leads are within the survey's margins of error. Likely voters are a subset of the entire pool of registered voters surveyed. From Monday to Thursday, the poll surveyed 619 registered voters in Michigan and 661 registered voters in Wisconsin. Trump has a nine-point lead with voters on his handling of the economy compared to Harris, according to the Times/Siena poll. Tim Walz of Minnesota as her running mate, his military history seemed like an asset. About two months later, after his retirement, his unit, the Minnesota National Guard's 1st Battalion, 125th Field Artillery, was ordered to mobilize. In 1996, he transferred to the Minnesota National Guard and held various field artillery positions, including firing battery chief, operations sergeant, first sergeant, and command sergeant major. A month later, in March 2005, the National Guard announced the potential partial mobilization of troops from the Minnesota National Guard. To retire as a command sergeant major, Walz would also have had to hold the title for three years.

The rally in Bozeman was Trump’s first since Vice President Kamala Harris officially secured the Democratic nomination and selected Minnesota Gov. “We need the Senate,” Trump told the crowd Friday, stressing the critical nature of the contest here. “His really is valor,” Trump said of Sheehy, who served in Iraq and Afghanistan, among other deployments. Trump's campaign agreed to Sept. 25 but the Harris campaign has yet to agree to that date, the person said. Financial-services firms risk the wrath of the Securities and Exchange Commission if their employees make campaign contributions to state or local officials such as Walz. Donating to the campaign would violate the regulator's "pay-to-play" rule, which keeps firms from trying to sway politicians for favors such as managing their state's pension fund. Those employees are also required to get permission to donate to the Harris-Walz campaign. It is possible to sidestep the pay-to-play rule by donating to PACs or Super PACs that aren't directly tied to the relevant candidate. "The Pay-to-Play Rule, although well-intentioned, imposes unique, unquantifiable costs on individuals by impeding their ability to participate in the political process."

Vice President Kamala Harris would prioritize small business growth and large industry competition in shaping her own antitrust and regulatory policy if she wins the presidency in November, Maryland's Democratic Gov. A pro-growth, pro-competition approach to business in a potential Harris administration would mark a striking divergence from the aggressive trust-busting and merger-skeptical principles that have shaped the Biden administration's regulatory agenda. "As the vice president is thinking about a future-facing administration, there are going to be different dynamics that are going to require different philosophies," said Moore. "There will be different sociopolitical and just political dynamics that is going to require a different set, a different lens and a different vision." But his comments could feed the hopes of Wall Street dealmakers who are already optimistic that a potential Harris administration — while firmly rooted in progressive economic traditions — might deprioritize the aggressive antitrust regime that has been a trademark of Biden's presidency.

New York CNN —The Republican Party’s media allies are yet again struggling to coalesce around a single attack on the Democratic ticket. GET RELIABLE SOURCES IN YOUR INBOX A daily digest chronicling the evolving media landscape with uncompromising reporting and analysis. Fox News, naturally, led the charge, with the right-wing network devoting segment after segment to assailing Walz and his character. Since she assumed the top spot on the Democratic ticket in July, right-wing media has been noticeably struggling to present a cohesive narrative against her. It remains to be seen whether the Trump campaign will eventually establish a clear and consistent strategy for defining Harris and Walz.

So what took Walz from, nationally speaking, a relative unknown to major-party vice presidential nominee? But is the Walz pick indicative of a campaign that is too online? After all, the Harris campaign has been riding a wave of good emotions since she became the presumptive Democratic nominee. One of the first rules when it comes to a vice presidential pick is to “Do no harm.” Harris likely did no harm with this pick. She seems to have momentum, and the Walz pick will probably do nothing to impede it.
