Costfoto | Nurphoto | Getty ImagesNvidia , Google , Microsoft and dozens of other tech companies are descending on Las Vegas next week to showcase artificial intelligence tools they say will save doctors and nurses valuable time. Based on the speaking agenda and announcements leading up to the conference, AI tools to conquer administrative burdens will be the star of this year's show. Tech companies, eager to carve out a piece of a market that could top $6.8 trillion in spending by the decade's end, argue that their generative AI tools can help. Josh Edelson | AFP | Getty ImagesGoogle, for instance, said it's working to expand its health-care customer base by tackling administrative burden with AI. Vertex AI Search for Healthcare allows developers to build tools to help doctors quickly search for information across disparate medical records, Google said.

At a town hall hosted at a high school outside Philadelphia, Musk referred to the false conspiracy theory that Dominion Voting Systems was part of a plot to rig U.S. elections in recent years. There’s always this question of, say, the Dominion voting machines. Fact: Hand counts and audits of such paper ballots have repeatedly proven that Dominion machines produce accurate results. Studies and investigations have found that there’s no evidence of widespread voter fraud in the U.S. When voter fraud has occurred, prosecutors have successfully brought cases against perpetrators including in a highly publicized fraud scheme in North Carolina.

Listeria monocytogenes is a type of bacteria that can contaminate food and cause serious complications for certain groups of individuals. Even though cooking the meat kills any listeria that may be present, deli meat can be contaminated afterward during packaging or slicing. Similarly, the ready-to-eat meat products involved in the ongoing BrucePac recall are precooked, although the source of contamination hasn’t yet been determined. Listeria infection early in pregnancy can cause premature labor, a baby with a low birth weight and loss of the pregnancy. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, around 1,600 people are infected and 260 people die from listeria infection in the United States every year.

CNN —Universal Orlando Resort announced Thursday morning that its highly anticipated new theme park, Epic Universe, will open on May 22, 2025, just before Memorial Day weekend. “I anticipate that this new Epic Universe theme park will easily crack 6 million plus visitors during its first 12 months of operation,” Speigel told CNN in an email. “Universal Studios theme parks have been on a huge roll since Harry Potter was introduced in 2010.”Speigel said this park will ratchet up the Orlando theme park market, where Universal and Disney are the biggest players. Speigel – along with many theme park fans – wonders how Disney will respond to its competitor’s moves and whether it will also open a new theme park in the coming years. It will be located in the new theme park, with Universal’s first dedicated theme park entrance for hotel guests.

The EU's NIS 2 cybersecurity directive sets a high benchmark for companies over their internal cybersecurity systems and practices. On Thursday, the new directive officially became enforceable by member states. However, most EU member states have yet to implement NIS 2 in their own respective national laws, meaning that enforcement is likely to be spotty. NIS 2 — or the Network and Information Security Directive 2 — is an EU directive that aims to increase the security of IT systems and networks across the bloc. Fladgate's Wright said that effectiveness of NIS 2 as a regulation will largely depend on consistent implementation and enforcement across EU member states.

Early voting is getting underway throughout the country, including in key battleground states like Georgia, where more than 300,000 people voted Tuesday, the first day of early voting. However, there were substantial differences in the number of early voters based on a city or county’s partisan lean. So far in 2024, more absentee voting has occurred in places that tend to support Republicans than places that tend to lean Democratic. However, if early voters are less consistent or new voters, it could signal a shift in electoral trends ahead of November. These satellite voting locations may make early in-person voting accessible in more populous areas, which tend to be more Democratic-leaning.

Still, that’s far lower than the 528 drop boxes that the commission was aware of in 2020. PoolNick Ramos, the executive director of the Wisconsin Democracy Campaign, a voting rights group that has pushed for more drop boxes, said he was discouraged by the number of municipalities that had decided not to use drop boxes this election. “Drop boxes are safe, they are reliable and secure.”Changing legal statusFor years, ballot drop boxes were legal in Wisconsin with little controversy or attention, and in 2020, they became a key tactic for municipalities to encourage safe voting during the coronavirus pandemic. A conservative group filed a lawsuit to ban drop boxes in Wisconsin, and the state Supreme Court’s conservative majority sided with them in 2022, banning drop boxes except ones inside clerks’ offices. In Milwaukee, most drop boxes are in front of libraries, and in Madison, the state capital and a Democratic stronghold, officials decided to locate almost all of their drop boxes in front of fire stations.

Troops focused on how to be "small and undetectable" in the electromagnetic spectrum, a commander said. The Ukraine war has demonstrated the challenges of remaining hidden from enemy sensors and electronic warfare. It is also grappling with the expanding sensor threat and the realization that individual soldier, vehicle, and device emissions can be detected in the electromagnetic spectrum. Seoul, South Korea CNN —North Korea blew up parts of two major roads connected to the southern part of the peninsula on Tuesday, South Korean authorities said, after Pyongyang warned it would take steps to completely cut off its territory from the South. South Korea's Defense MinistryOn Monday, South Korea said it had detected signs that North Korea was preparing to demolish roads that connect the two countries, warning that the explosions could occur imminently. The blasts come a few days after North Korea accused South Korea of flying propaganda-filled drones over its capital Pyongyang and threatened “retaliation,” in the latest tit-for-tat exchange following months of Pyongyang sending trash-laden balloons to the South. North and South Korea have been separated since the Korean War ended in 1953 with an armistice agreement. Since January, Pyongyang has fortified its border defenses, laying land mines, building anti-tank traps and removing railway infrastructure, according to the South Korean military.

.SPX mountain 2022-10-12 The S & P 500 has gained more than 60% during this bull market. However, prior bull markets have shown a tendency to lose a little steam in their third year. Bank of America research showed that 10 prior bull markets for the S & P 500 had an average return of -2% in months 25 to 36. Another thing to keep in mind is that even positive third years for bull markets tend to be bumpy. Of course, a slump for the S & P 500 could be an opportunity for small-cap stocks to catch up .

Actor Simu Liu blasted a pair of Quebec entrepreneurs last week who went on Canada’s version of “Shark Tank” to pitch a drink they say has “transformed” boba tea. Sébastien Fiset and Jess Frenette, founders of a bottled popping boba and alcoholic bubble tea brand called Bobba, were seeking $1 million in exchange for 18% of the company. Their products include cans of alcoholic bubble tea, as well as grab-and-go packets of popping boba. “Dragons, you have probably heard about bubble tea,” Frenette said before Liu quickly interjected with a sarcastic: “I’ve never, has anyone else heard of bubble tea? Not everything has to be traditional.”Fiset responded by saying Bobba’s popping boba makes the drink “not an ethnical product anymore.” Minhas agreed that the popping boba was new, saying she’d never experienced it.
