REUTERS/Mike Segar/ File Photo Acquire Licensing RightsWASHINGTON, Sept 26 (Reuters) - U.S. Democratic Senators Tammy Baldwin, Bob Casey and Jon Tester joined a growing number of Democrats on Tuesday in calling for Senator Bob Menendez to resign, after prosecutors charged him and his wife with taking bribes from three New Jersey businessmen. Menendez, also a Democrat, said on Monday that he would stay in the Senate and fight the charges. Democratic Senators John Fetterman, Sherrod Brown and Peter Welch have also called for Menendez to resign, as well as several Democratic elected officials in Menendez's state of New Jersey, including Governor Phil Murphy. Menendez's legal troubles could complicate his party's efforts to maintain control of the Senate, though New Jersey has not elected a Republican to the seat since 1972. Following the announcement of the charges on Friday, Democratic U.S. Representative Andy Kim said on Saturday he would challenge Menendez for his seat.

U.S. Sen. Cory Booker joined a fast-growing chorus of Democrats to call on Sen. On Wednesday afternoon, 20 couples gathered in front of a stage at the National Mall in Washington to recite their commitment vows. Some brides had on white gowns while grooms wore top hats. Others donned orange T-shirts printed with the words “Disability Rights Are Human Rights.”“We would like to get married and be able to go to the doctor,” they chanted in unison. “We would like to get married and not end up living in a cardboard box.”Their combined voices might not have been loud enough for lawmakers at the Capitol, visible in the distance, to hear. But that, too, is something the couples and about 80 supporters who watched the Disabled Marriage Equality Now rally from lawn chairs would have liked.

In the book, author Walter Isaacson wrote that a Ukrainian drone submarine attack on Russian warships was disrupted by a disconnect from Starlink, ordered by Musk. Excerpts from the book raised alarm bells in Washington, among NATO allies and in the Ukrainian capital. Musk also argued, as he has in the past, that Ukraine should strike a "truce" with Russia. Musk's "peace plan" argument was shouted down by Ukraine officials, politicians and Putin experts. Earlier in the week, Sen. Warren called for a Congressional probe of Musk and SpaceX.

Are We Finally Ready to Take Tammy Wynette Seriously?

Chastain tackles the songs herself, and though her pipes are decent, her performances never quite transcend honky-tonk bar karaoke. Watching the series, you miss the specific and elusive magic of Wynette’s own voice, making clear how easy it is to take for granted. As Clinton’s curt 1992 dismissal attests, the women Wynette sang about and embodied in her songs often seemed at odds with second-wave feminism. She often sang about the sorts of people and situations that aren’t usually championed in a culture that devalues women’s work and doesn’t treat their perspectives seriously. Easton notes, astutely, that Wynette’s songs often depicted “failures of the domestic,” and that “Wynette’s best work is about when the most private failures become public scandals.”
