The Red Sox challenged the play for obstruction and Kiner-Falefa's run was overturned. Belt hit two-run and solo shots, Kevin Kiermaier and George Springer had two-run homers and Bo Bichette added a solo blast in the rubber match of a three-game series. The loss broke the Braves' five-game winning streak and handed them their first home loss in eight games this month. Maikel Garcia's run-scoring single and Drew Waters' RBI groundout got them within a run with the tying run on second. Yoan Moncada hit a two-run double that tied the game and Oscar Colas made it 7-5 with a two-run double during the seventh-inning uprising.

Benchmark 10-year yields reached 4.312%, testing October's 4.338%, a break past which would be its highest since 2007. "What's interesting is usually when you have volatility around rates that's the market trying to price in a higher fed funds rate. "The impact of higher yields is standard: a dollar that is well supported and equities under pressure," he added. MSCI's world index (.MIWD00000PUS) was down 0.1% on Thursday, having dropped to its lowest level since July 6 early in the session. Losses were broad-based across Asia Pacific on Thursday, with Japan's Nikkei (.N225) and Australia's S&P/ASX 200 index (.AXJO) down 1%. "Some participants" cited the risks to the economy of pushing rates too far even as "most" policymakers continued to prioritise the battle against inflation. The U.S. central bank hiked rates by 25 basis points at the July meeting after standing pat in June. The rising yields lifted the dollar, with the dollar index , which measures the U.S. currency against six rivals, touching a two-month peak of 103.58 as investors sought safety. Worries over China and the trajectory of the U.S. interest rates also rattled the commodities market, with oil prices dropping for the fourth straight session.

The China gloom saw the Australian and New Zealand dollars, often used as liquid proxies for the yuan, tumbling to their lowest levels since November in early Asia trade. The Aussie bottomed at $0.6440, while the kiwi slid to a low of $0.5939, ahead of a rate decision by the Reserve Bank of New Zealand later on Wednesday. "But where we are at the moment, I think the jawboning will continue but I'm not convinced that we'll see intervention." The greenback predictably rode Treasury yields higher, with the dollar index eking out a slight gain to 103.22. The euro was little changed at $1.0902, while sterling dipped 0.05% to $1.2696, ahead of U.K. inflation data due later on Wednesday.

[1/2] Chinese Yuan and U.S. dollar banknotes are seen in this illustration taken March 10, 2023. That represented the highest annual growth rate since comparable records began in 2001. "BoE Sep rate hike bets have jumped ... providing support for the GBP," said Scotiabank chief FX strategist Shaun Osborne. The yuan briefly bounced back as major state-owned banks were seen selling dollars to support the local currency. Punctuating those worries, Chinese data on industrial output, retail sales and investment released shortly after the PBOC's rate cut showed unexpected slowdowns.

But a key factor behind the yen's weakness is unchanged, namely the yawning yield gap with the United States. Yet currency traders remain nervous about provoking intervention, as the yen entered the same zone that triggered heavy dollar selling by Japanese authorities in September and October of last year. For now, traders are testing the waters by selling the yen against sterling and the Swiss franc, mindful that selling against the dollar could gather momentum quickly. From a purely macroeconomic perspective, Kichikawa said, officials have no imperative to prevent yen weakness before 150, which is consistent with the mild inflationary pressure that the BOJ aims to foster. The bond market, which precipitated the yen's slide, may ultimately give Japan's authorities reason to hold off on pressing the intervention button.

"It's important for the currency market to move stably reflecting fundamentals. "We're watching market moves with a strong sense of urgency. We'll respond appropriately to excessive moves." Mahindra Funster electric concept SUV is on display after it was unveiled at the India Auto Expo 2020 in Greater Noida, India, February 5, 2020. Singapore's Temasek handed Anand Mahindra’s EV business a punchy valuation of up to $9.8 billion this month. The $23 billion Mumbai-listed Mahindra & Mahindra (MAHM.NS) generates most of its top line from its sprawling autos business churning out everything from commercial vehicles to three wheelers. It follows the sale of up to 4.8% to British International Investments, the UK's development finance institution, at a $9.1 billion valuation in July last year. True, Temasek's valuation of the EV business depends on the latter hitting undisclosed milestones.

Japan's Former Prime Minister and current Vice-President of the ruling Liberal Democratic Party, Taro Aso, speaks during the Ketagalan Forum in Taipei, Taiwan August 8, 2023. Aso's speech angered China, which claims Taiwan as its territory. Keisuke Suzuki, an LDP lawmaker who accompanied Aso's Taiwan visit this week, told the BS Fuji talk show on Wednesday that Aso had discussed the issue with Japanese government officials, indicating that Aso's view did not deviate from the official position. "The comment was not lawmaker Taro Aso's personal remark, but a result of arrangements with government insiders", Suzuki said. Aso's visit, which marked the most senior Japanese political official to visit Taiwan since 1972, when Japan normalised diplomatic relations with China, came as tensions have risen over democratically governed Taiwan amid China's increasing military pressure on the island during the past three years.

Morgan Stanley upgraded Indian stocks to "overweight" from "equal weight," citing a strong profit outlook and the country's attractiveness to investors in a "multipolar world." India's situation is in "stark contrast to that in China," the bank said in its Aug. 2 note. Morgan Stanley downgraded Chinese stocks to equal weight in the same note. Stock picks While Indian stock valuations "overshot somewhat" last October, it's "less extreme" now, Morgan Stanley said. Morgan Stanley added two Indian stocks to its focus list: Maruti Suzuki : Morgan Stanley said the automaker is set to benefit from a higher per-capita income in India; an expansion in market share; and an improving product mix.

Seven people were killed and over 70 injured in rioting in Nuh and Gurugram districts of Haryana state after a Hindu religious procession was targeted and a mosque attacked in retaliation. Gurugram, formerly known as Gurgaon, is a city of over 1.5 million people that shares a border with New Delhi. "Muslim men attacked the Hindu procession and killed many of our people," said Praveen Babbar, a leader of Hindu Yuva Vahini (Hindu Youth Force). Haryana Police, however, said they acted swiftly and prevented riots from spreading, and that two of its men were killed in the violence. The Indian flag flies in front of the new logo of the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) at its headquarters in Mumbai, India, April 19, 2023. REUTERS/Francis Mascarenhas/File PhotoBENGALURU, Aug 3 (Reuters) - Morgan Stanley has upgraded its view on Indian markets to "overweight" from "equal weight", citing easing valuations as compared to October 2022, when the global brokerage identified the onset of a new bull market in Asian and emerging market equities. India is now the top ranked, most-preferred market among emerging markets (EMs), rising from the sixth spot, due to supportive foreign inflows, macro stability and positive earnings outlook, the brokerage said in a note late Wednesday. Sectorally, the brokerage remains overweight on financials, consumer discretionary and industrial segments in India, and has an "add" rating on Larsen & Toubro and Maruti Suzuki India in its Asia Pacific focus and Global Emerging Markets lists. "We think returning India to an "overweight" rating and downgrading China to "equal weight" is warranted," analysts said, referring to the Indian markets' outperformance over China as a sign of a structural breakout in favour of India.

And then there is the mental effort of focusing awareness on the breath while the mind serves up plans, memories and emotions, not all of them pleasant. “Leave your front door and your back door open,” the Zen master Shunryu Suzuki used to say. TOKYO, July 16 (Reuters) - There was "no discussion" about exchange rates at a meeting of Group of Seven (G7) finance ministers and central bank chiefs, Japanese Finance Minister Shunichi Suzuki said on Sunday, according to Kyodo News.
