REDLANDS, Calif. (AP) — A Southern California school district will pay $2.25 million to settle the latest lawsuit involving a teacher who became pregnant by one of at least two students she was accused of sexually abusing. The settlement brings to $8.25 million the amount paid by Redlands Unified School District to Laura Whitehurst’s victims since her 2013 arrest, the Southern California News Group reported Sunday. In August 2016, the district agreed to pay $6 million to a former student who impregnated Whitehust while she was his teacher. Redlands Unified spokesperson Christine Stephens said Friday that the district was aware of the recent settlement, but could not comment due to confidentiality agreements. Whitehurst, who taught English and was a soccer coach, pleaded guilty to unlawful sex with three former students.

Foundations for the country’s future have been established (Inflation Reduction Act, Chips Act, etc.). C’mon, forget an occasional stumble, or less than polished speech — it’s action and leadership that should be noted, and applauded. To the Editor:All things considered, I believe that Joe Biden has done a fantastic job as president. By the time Alcaraz and Zverev appeared on Arthur Ashe for the late match much of the sting had been taken out of the brutal conditions that Medvedev and Rublev faced. German Zverev, a U.S. Open finalist in 2020, showed up ready to fight but after some initial resistance the tank emptied and it was a straightforward win for Alcaraz in the end. "I'm feeling really comfortable playing in this court, playing here in New York," said Alcaraz.

By August, arrests of migrants who crossed the border with family members had hit a monthly record of 91,000. In New York City alone, more than 57,000 migrants seek food and shelter from the city’s social services on an average night. Nobody can say for certain how many migrants who crossed the border during Biden’s presidency remain in the U.S., but it’s almost certainly in the millions. The president deserves credit for arming Ukraine, as he does for brokering a strategic rapprochement between Japan and South Korea. Easy to see are tents under overpasses, from the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway in New York to the I-5 in Seattle.
