Russia’s relentless onslaught has a key goal: If they take Lyptsi, then they can position artillery within range of Ukraine’s second city, Kharkiv, 20 minutes down the road. “They’re not sending just anyone into the assaults.”His stare lengthens when asked about what fortifications were in place before the surprise Russian attack. At one position closer to the Russian border, the 92nd Assault Brigade showed CNN a Russian artillery gun, captured in the first days of the war, from which they are now firing French mortar shells. The gun was partially hidden by a wire net, aimed at providing some protection from an attack drone. Attacks persisted in the distance however, keeping the city’s residents awake through violently loud nights, now amplified by the threat of Russian artillery edging closer.

After years of renting houses in the Hamptons, Donna Lennard was ready to buy a place of her own in 2017. And she knew exactly where she wanted to live: on Gerard Drive, in the hamlet of Springs, N.Y., in the town of East Hampton. “It’s a peninsula,” said Ms. Lennard, the owner of Il Buco, the New York-born chain of restaurants and shops that she started with Alberto Avalle 30 years ago. “On one side is Gardiners Bay, facing Gardiners Island and Connecticut; then, on the other side, is Accabonac Harbor. So from one side to the other, you see water.”

Beginning around the 1940s, a neighborhood near downtown Palm Springs became home to mostly Black and Latino residents. The one-square-mile tract was on the land of the Cahuilla Indians and offered one of the few places minorities could live because of racial housing discrimination. After a federal law change in 1959, these residents were evicted and their homes destroyed to make way for economic development. For years, former residents said they were evicted with little or no notice.

Germany, a full-time bus driver and full-time pastor, knows how important this church is to its community. Rachel Wisniewski | ReutersAmericans are kicking the can down the road on some more-costly, traditionally financed purchases as elevated inflation and interest rates bite. "As a result, consumers continue to scrutinize their spending and make near-term decisions based primarily on need, price and perceived value. But those options have fallen out of favor as interest rates rose. He also cited increased interest rates as another weight on their shoulders. While public auction sales are declining in the art world, private sales — done behind closed doors between discreet buyers and sellers — are growing. Classic cars are also seeing a shift to private sales, especially with the most expensive and rare models. But its newly formed RM Sotheby's private sales division has seen its sales more than quadruple over the past four years, according to Shelby Myers, global head of private sales for RM Sotheby's. The rise in private sales for classic cars, art, real estate and other markets is being driven by social media, technology and cooling prices for collectibles. "They're leaving money on the table," said real estate broker Noble Black of Douglas Elliman.

CNN —The body of a 23-year-old hiker who went missing in storms Sunday has been found at Rocky Mountain National Park, officials said in a media release. Lucas Macaj’s body was recovered on Mills Glacier, near the base of Lamb’s Slide, and initial investigations show that he took a significant fall, park officials said on Thursday. Macaj’s vehicle was found Monday at the trailhead leading to Longs Peak. Search operations on Tuesday were slowed by strong winds, white out conditions and low visibility, park officials said. Macaj’s body was flown to a landing zone in Rocky Mountain National Park before being taken to the Boulder County Coroner’s Office, which will release the cause of death, the park service said.

Three of these towns — Katayamazu Onsen, Yamashiro Onsen and Yamanaka Onsen — are famous for their onsen, or hot springs. Japanese tourists still flock to Kaga’s onsen towns every fall, when the leaves turn fiery and snow crab is in season. But few foreigners find their way here, in part because the journey from Tokyo has not been easy. A new extension of the Hokuriku Shinkansen, the high-speed train that rockets passengers from Tokyo to this region, now includes a stop at Kagaonsen station. The trip takes less than three hours on a single train.

When my family of four went to Disney World for the holidays one year, everything was so booked we had to stay in three different resorts. We've done split stays at Disney World in the past, but this was the first time we stayed at three different hotels on a single visit. Pop Century wasn't my favorite resort, but it definitely has its prosIt's unfair to compare a value resort like Pop Century to villas at deluxe resorts, but Pop Century was my least favorite of the three. Peloton isn't going under imminently, but let's be real here: No fitness fad lasts forever. While there was a lot that went wrong, the long and short of it is that Peloton failed to read the room on its pandemic popularity. "It's not that Peloton isn't a good business model; it's that it simply isn't a mass product but more of a niche, luxe one," she said. Investors have soured on the company, and Peloton's once $50 billion market cap has fallen to under $2 billion. It also has to contend with the gym, which has all sorts of classes and fitness equipment that let people mix things up, including, in many cases, Pelotons or other connected-fitness devices.

I go to Disney World at least once a month, and I've found underrated things most tourists miss. On days when I'm not going to the theme parks, I love playing mini golf with family and friends. AdvertisementI've been going to Disney World for over 30 years, and as an adult, I visit at least once a month. The company is putting $60 billion into its global theme parks and cruise lines — including significant additions and renovations across the Disney World parks — so there's more to do every visit. But with all the expansion, most tourists probably miss the underrated activities I've discovered across the property.

A former employee of the National Security Agency who thought that he was selling top secrets to the Russians was sentenced on Monday to nearly 22 years in prison, prosecutors said. The former employee, Jareh Sebastian Dalke, 32, of Colorado Springs, was sentenced to 262 months, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Colorado. He pleaded guilty last year to six counts of attempting to transmit classified national defense information to a foreign agent. “This defendant, who had sworn an oath to defend our country, believed he was selling classified national security information to a Russian agent, when in fact, he was outing himself to the F.B.I.,” Attorney General Merrick B. Prosecutors in Arizona said on Monday that they would not retry a rancher who was charged with murdering an unarmed migrant on his property last year after a mistrial was declared last week. Judge Thomas Fink of Santa Cruz County Superior Court declared a mistrial on April 22. The Santa Cruz District Attorney’s Office said in a statement on Monday that “because of the unique circumstances and challenges surrounding” the case, Mr. Kelly would not be retried. “However, our office’s decision in this case should not be construed as a position on future cases of this type,” the office said. “Our office is mandated by statute to prosecute criminal acts, and we take that statutory mandate seriously.”
