At Fortune 100 companies, only 12 chief executives were women as of July 15, the same number as a year earlier, according to Heidrick. The Heidrick & Struggles also report showed 86 CEOs in the group were white, down slightly from 88 in the prior period. "If you want to accelerate the rate of the change in the C-suite, then it (diversity) has to be embedded in the succession plan," Taylor said. In a separate survey, Heidrick found record levels of board seats filled by first-time directors at 43%. Nearly half of the appointees last year were women, while 41% were racially or ethnically diverse, similar to rates in 2020.
The worst-kept secret in U.S. politics is finally out: Donald Trump is running for president. But, of course, the GOP itself crashed, with many of Trump’s hand-picked candidates headlining the disaster. He was the political black hole from which so few GOP candidates escaped. “The question is: What happens when he goes head-to-head with the guy he’s imitating?”Well, with Trump’s official 2024 bid, we are one step closer to seeing what will happen. A Trump party in all but name.

WASHINGTON — The conservative-majority Supreme Court left its imprint on the 2022 elections, galvanizing Democrats with decisions on guns and abortion and potentially aiding Republicans with election rulings. For decades, it was the Republican Party that benefited from conservative anger over the Supreme Court's original ruling in Roe v. Wade. Using the new map, Republicans won five of the six districts Tuesday. Under the newly drawn map, Republicans won 20 of 28 seats. The Supreme Court's 2019 ruling said partisan gerrymandering claims could not be adjudicated by federal courts.
Trump would be the favorite in a primary matchup against DeSantis or any other Republican. Although he has been coy about a presidential run, supporters at his victory party chanted "Two more years!" Even if Trump mounts another presidential run, he will continue to face a dizzying array of legal headaches, including probes of his efforts to overturn the 2020 election and his removal of classified documents from the White House. I don't like him," said two-time Trump voter Gordon Nelson, 77, as he voted for Republican candidates in Michigan on Tuesday. At a Wednesday press conference, Biden seemed amused at the prospect of Trump and DeSantis going head-to-head.
U.S. President Joe Biden smiles during a rally with Democratic nominee for Maryland Governor Wes Moore, U.S. "They still might lose control of both houses, but it's hardly the 'red wave' that was being marketed in the media." As results are reported across the country Wednesday, it appears Biden was right to be hopeful. President Joe Biden told reporters ahead of Election Day that he was "optimistic" for Democrats. "While Democrats may ultimately lose the House, it will likely be by much less than Republicans would want," O'Connell said.
Control of even one chamber would allow Republicans to stymie Democrat Biden's legislative agenda and launch potentially damaging investigations. Biden warned that many Republican candidates are threatening democratic norms by echoing Trump's false claims about a stolen election in 2020. Republican Senate candidate Herschel Walker said at a rally in Georgia. Biden spoke in normally safe Democratic territory outside New York City, where Republicans are threatening to make gains. First Lady Jill Biden visited Texas, a Republican-dominated state that has a handful of competitive races.
Nonpartisan forecasts and polls show Republicans are heavy favorites to win control of the House of Representatives, with the Senate a toss-up. In recent weeks momentum has shifted toward the Republicans, Democratic strategists acknowledge, as voters' concerns about inflation and crime have outweighed those about abortion after the Supreme Court ended the nationwide right to abortion in June. For Democrats, Sunday's rallies in areas traditionally friendly to the party are a last-minute chance to minimize losses on Tuesday. Florida for years swung from party to party, but has recently trended Republican and is not considered a major battleground this election. Trump's frequent rallies maintain his profile as he weighs launching a third run for the White House after the midterms, according to advisers.
But he’ll be “reaching out, touching me, touching you” as he swaps the boxing ring for the recording studio, all in the name of charity. The two-time world heavyweight champion will release a cover of Neil Diamond’s classic ‘Sweet Caroline’ in aid of men’s mental health charity, Talk Club, in November. 100% of the profits earned from Fury’s debut solo single will be donated to Talk Club. “Boxing has been a massive platform for me to spread the word on mental health and I have done it to the best of my ability,” the 34-year-old said in a press release announcing the single. CNN —New ads promoting the Covid-19 vaccines are making their debut this week, targeting specific communities that have had a slow uptake of the updated shots. “These ads also reflect our commitment to equity in our COVID response and the need to redouble efforts to reach Black and Hispanic communities about the benefits of the updated vaccines,” she said. We now have updated COVID-19 vaccines to protect you against the Omicron strain.”The new ads, first reported on CNN, will run in 15 US markets, according to HHS. The ads, with a special focus on communities that have historically been underserved, are part of the Biden administration’s effort to encourage people to get their updated vaccine ahead of winter. A US judge in Texas ruled on Friday that people killed in two Boeing (BA) 737 MAX crashes are legally considered “crime victims,” a designation that will determine what remedies should be imposed. The deal capped a 21-month investigation into the design and development of the 737 MAX following the deadly crashes in Indonesia and Ethiopia in 2018 and 2019. The families of the victims of the Ethiopian Airlines crash of the Boeing 737 Max jet held a vigil in front of the US Department of Transportation headquarters in Washington, DC on Sept. 10, 2019. Boeing wants Congress to waive a December deadline imposed by the legislation for the FAA to certify the MAX 7 and MAX 10. Last month, Boeing paid $200 million to settle Securities and Exchange Commission charges it misled investors about the MAX.
The cut is also seen as helping Russia, the world’s second-largest oil exporter, finance its war in Ukraine. “It failed both on blood and on oil,” Dr. Khalid Aljabri, a Saudi rights activist, told NBC News Thursday by telephone. Lina Alhathloul / TwitterAs a presidential candidate, Biden made no bones about his stance on the U.S.-Saudi relationship. Shortly after announcing his candidacy, he declared he was going to “cancel the blank check” the Trump administration had given Saudi Arabia during its war in Yemen, in which thousands of people have lost their lives. The U.S. has several options on how it can respond to Saudi Arabia, such as “freezing all arms sales and security cooperation, to withdrawing U.S. troops from Saudi Arabia,” Sheline said.
The Justice Department in its petition to the Atlanta-based 11th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals said U.S. District Judge Aileen Cannon exceeded her authority when she named the special master to vet the more than 11,000 seized documents. The Justice Department is investigating whether Trump broke the law by taking government records to his Florida estate after leaving office in January 2021. Now, the Justice Department is appealing the rest of Cannon's order. Prosecutors said in a court filing this week they had turned over the bulk of the seized records for Trump's attorneys to review.
WASHINGTON, Oct 14 (Reuters) - The U.S. Department of Justice on Friday asked a federal appeals court to end a special third-party review of documents seized from former President Donald Trump's home in Florida, arguing that a district court should not have appointed a "special master" in the case. Circuit Court of Appeals in Atlanta, Justice Department prosecutors argued that U.S. District Judge Aileen Cannon exceeded her authority when she paused a criminal investigation to allow the special master to review more than 11,000 seized records. "It follows that the district court erred in requiring the government to submit any of the seized materials for the special-master review process," prosecutors said in the court papers. The Justice Department is investigating whether Trump broke the law by taking government records, including about 100 classified documents, to his Florida estate after leaving office in January 2021. They are also looking into whether Trump or his team obstructed justice when the FBI sent agents to search his home, and have warned that more classified documents may still be missing.

Even if a link were ever found, the life-saving benefits of the vaccines are still likely to outweigh the asthma risk, said Dr. Matthew Daley, the study’s lead author. But it’s possible that if the results are confirmed, it could prompt new work to redesign vaccines, he added. Dr. Paul Offit, of Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, worried that the flawed study will needlessly scare some families away from proven vaccines. Several previous studies didn’t find a link between aluminum-containing childhood vaccines and allergies and asthma. About 4% of U.S. children under 5 have persistent asthma.
Law enforcement activity has not pushed these false electors from their political perches. Al Drago / Bloomberg via Getty ImagesAll told, 23 of those false electors hold positions of power within their Republican parties. Then there are additional actors that didn’t serve in the slate of false electors themselves but were instrumental in the scheme. Others hold positions of power within the state GOP, including Shafer, who is chair; Joseph Brannan, state GOP treasurer; Vikki Consiglio, the state party’s assistant treasurer; and Ken Carroll, the assistant secretary. On June 21, federal agents scattered across key states to deliver subpoenas to those who acted as Trump electors.
This is the first time Cruise has acknowledged the long-term need for remote human operators. Truly autonomous vehicles are far behind the optimistic rollout schedules predicted just a few years ago. In a June interview on YouTube, Musk said developing self-driving cars was "way harder than I originally thought, by far." Over time, those people will act as "air traffic controllers," supervising a growing number of autonomous cars. "Even decades from now you will not get to 100% truly autonomous vehicles," Kaveh added.
(CNN) As part of the White House's Covid-19 response plan for the fall, the US Department of Health and Human Services is debuting a video ad to encourage people to get the updated Covid-19 booster shot -- especially those who are 50 and older. An English version of the ad begins airing on television Thursday, and a Spanish version will air beginning Monday, according to HHS. These ads, first reported on CNN, also will go live on radio and online, and a print campaign is expected Monday. "These ads highlight the importance of getting updated vaccines, especially for older Americans -- directing them to Vaccines.gov," Sarah Lovenheim, HHS assistant secretary for public affairs, told CNN in an email. "The HHS COVID-19 Vaccine Public Education Campaign continues to work tirelessly to ensure Americans have the information and access they need to protect themselves from COVID-19."

A New York man was convicted Wednesday on charges that he moved into his daughter's dorm room at Sarah Lawrence College and abused students at the elite school in a nearly 10-year scheme. Lawrence Ray, 62, was found guilty of extortion, sex trafficking, forced labor, money laundering and other charges. Ray stood with his arms at his sides and faced the Manhattan jury as it returned guilty verdicts on all 15 counts, NBC New York reported. The U.S. attorney for Southern New York, Damian Williams, said Ray "terrorized" and "tortured" the group. After the guilty verdict was read Wednesday, Ray was returned to custody, where he has been since he was arrested in 2020.
A leaked video obtained by Insider shows guards violently tackling a Black asylum seeker at a Louisiana detention center. Detainees and immigration lawyers say there is a disturbing and overlooked problem of anti-Black racism in immigration detention. In January, Representative Cori Bush (D-MO) and Senator Cory Booker (D-NJ) called for a "holistic review of the disparate treatment of Black migrants." Across the state, eight new immigration detention centers have been opened in the past three years – all privately run. In just Texas and Louisiana, 11 separate facilities in recent years have shifted from prisons or jails to immigration detention centers.

Nora Lum, known by her stage name Awkwafina, may have an estimated net worth in the millions, but she still lives with the mindset that she just needs $500 per month in order to get by, she recently told E. Alex Jung in the February cover story for Harper's Bazaar. "I went into this mode of, if I can make $500 a month, that's all I need, because that's how much my rent was at the time," she tells Harper's Bazaar. "To this day I feel like I'm still in that 'All I need is 500-a-month' mindset." she said to Harper's Bazaar. "Yes, I always feel impostor syndrome because there are so many talented people out there," Lum tells Harper's Bazaar.
