OTTAWA, Sept 23 (Reuters) - Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and South Korean President Yoon Suk-yeol on Friday agreed to deepen cooperation on critical minerals used in electric vehicles (EVs) batteries as both countries seek to cut emissions to fight climate change. "Canada, as a global leader in the production of minerals, and Korea, a major semiconductor and battery maker - each play crucial roles in global supply chains," Yoon said through an interpreter. China is currently by far the dominant global supplier of critical minerals used in EVs. Canada and South Korea are already cooperating in the sector, Trudeau pointed out. To that end, both countries agreed to develop a memorandum of understanding in the coming months to "support clean energy transition and energy security, including with respect to critical minerals".
REUTERS/Carlos BarriaSTOCKHOLM/BERLIN, Sept 21 (Reuters) - Over a dozen automakers including Toyota (7203.T) and Nissan (7201.T), have signed up with a platform for patent licences from 51 tech companies, aiming to simplify access to wireless technology and avoid costly legal battles. Conflicts have stemmed in part from different views among carmakers, suppliers and tech firms over who should shoulder the cost of licensing. Mercedes-Benz (MBGn.DE), then Daimler, ended a years-long dispute over its patent use last year with Nokia after being eventually forced to pay. "Usually suppliers handle patents in the development process – telecoms is the one area where they don't," the person, who declined to be named, said. Avanci is also working with companies on a new contract to cover 5G patents, which would likely be more expensive than the current patent portfolio.

REUTERS/Rebecca Cook/File PhotoDETROIT, Sept 21 (Reuters) - Automotive industry suppliers are raising prices to their customers across the board, not just with Ford Motor Co(F.N), which warned this week it was taking a $1 billion inflationary cost hit. Several suppliers said Ford isn't suffering alone, as automakers across the board are being asked to shoulder more of the burden suppliers have faced from spiking energy, labor and raw material costs. Suppliers contacted by Reuters said they have raised prices on parts in the range of 7% to 20%. Many suppliers can't move fast enough, offering trailing contracts that leave them squeezing costs and accepting lower profit margins when prices spike.

Three of our Club holdings — Salesforce (CRM), Nvidia (NVDA) and Qualcomm (QCOM) — will be hosting events this week that we believe have the potential to be catalysts for their stocks. However, it did announce a new $10 billion repurchase program and reiterated a commitment to disciplined margin, cash flow, and revenue growth. Nvidia Nvidia faces a video gaming chip glut and new license requirements that could put China sales at risk.
