May 3 (Reuters) - A well-rested Jason Day will return to competition this week for the first time since enduring a horror finish to last month's Masters that the Australian revealed on Wednesday was due to another bout of vertigo. "So last round of the Masters I had vertigo, so that was obviously not fun to play in that final round," world number 34 Day told reporters ahead of this week's Wells Fargo Championship in Charlotte, North Carolina. "We had to finish our third round Sunday morning and then I was sitting in the caddie hut and that's when I got vertigo." Day said he has not had "too many bouts" of vertigo since 2015 and that when it would return it would typically last for about three holes and then gradually get better. The Australian was even considered a contender going into the Masters given a return to form that had produced five top-10 finishes in seven events going into the year's first major.

CNN —It’s been quite the year for Jon Rahm – and he’s got the prize money to prove it. A runner-up finish at the Mexico Open on Sunday took the Spaniard’s PGA Tour season earnings to $14,462,840, setting a new Tour record for money earned in a single season. With $49,486,883 in total earnings since joining the PGA Tour in 2016, Rahm looks set to pass the $50 million mark imminently upon his return. The American had finished joint-second, one shot shy, of Rahm at last year’s event, but improved his total by eight shots to end on 24-under and clinch his sixth PGA Tour title. World number one Rahm, who counts a Masters triumph among his four PGA Tour wins this season, made $839,300 for finishing second at Vidanta Vallarta, bringing his 2022-23 season total to $14,462,840. That tops the previous record of $14,046,910 set last season by 2022 Masters winner Scottie Scheffler. While disappointed in falling short, Rahm said this week offered a good reminder that past results and one's standing in the world of golf are no guarantee of future success. The triumphant pair on Sunday will also receive a two-year exemption on the PGA Tour. The Fitzpatrick brothers will pair together at the Zurich Classic. The telecast, during which Rahm came back from a two-shot deficit on Sunday to win his second major and reclaim the world number one ranking, averaged 12.06 million viewers, up 19% compared with Scottie Scheffler's win at last year's Masters. Ratings for Rahm's victory peaked at more than 15 million viewers from 7:00-7:15 p.m ET (2300-2315 GMT), as Rahm was putting the finishing touches on his four-shot victory over Koepka and Phil Mickelson.
