Republican presidential candidate former President Donald Trump gestures to the crowd at a campaign rally Saturday, March 16, 2024, in Vandalia, Ohio. Former President Donald Trump claimed that he — not President Joe Biden — will protect Social Security and warned of a "bloodbath" if he loses in November as he campaigned for Senate candidate Bernie Moreno in Ohio. Trump also dismissed recent allegations against Moreno, comparing them to attacks he has faced through the years, including his criminal indictments. "You will not be able to have Social Security with this guy in office because he's destroying the economics of our country. "I made a promise that I will always keep Social Security, Medicare.

Though its fate in the Senate is unclear, anti-China sentiment and pressure on lawmakers from the White House could force the issue. That belies the technical and legal hurdles in selling TikTok, as well as divisions within the U.S. tech community over the proposed legislation. The heads of the chamber’s Intelligence Committee — Mark Warner, Democrat of Virginia, and Marco Rubio, Republican of Florida — support the bill. So do the sometimes progressive John Fetterman, Democrat of Pennsylvania, and the hawkish Ted Cruz, Republican of Texas. It’s long overdue to push back and this bill does exactly that,” Fetterman posted on social media.

"No American company, especially those receiving taxpayer funding, should be fueling its innovation," he said, referencing Intel's expected grant from the Commerce Department to expand its U.S. chip production. Republican Senator Marco Rubio called on the Biden administration to revoke Intel's license to sell to Huawei "immediately" following the Reuters report. Intel, Huawei, the Commerce Department and the White House declined to comment. Intel's share of sales of Huawei laptops containing its chips soared during the period from 52.9% to 90.7%, according to the presentation. Meanwhile, Huawei continues to rely heavily on Intel chips for its laptops, its website shows.

It's not the first time Trump has suggested cuts to Social Security. However, such a policy would reduce the tax income Social Security and Medicare rely on. In recent interviews, Trump has mostly rejected the idea of changing Social Security. How Biden aims to strengthen Social SecurityDuring the State of the Union on Thursday, President Biden promised to protect both Social Security and Medicare from cuts. Biden calls for improving Social Security benefits, as well as Supplemental Security Income benefits, for seniors and people with disabilities, particularly those with low incomes.

CNN —The South Carolina Republican presidential primary is usually the most important contest of the nominating season. Since 1980, the only Republican to win the nomination without winning South Carolina was Mitt Romney in 2012. While Haley is unlikely to take South Carolina, she is definitely outperforming her national baseline. Both counties have relatively high levels of college graduates, who have been most hostile to the former president in GOP primaries historically. Trump winning college graduates in the South Carolina primary would match what we’re seeing in national polling of the Republican electorate.

The proposed questions geared toward people age 15 and older will be tested sometime this year. Intersex is an umbrella term for a number of conditions where internal or external sex characteristics aren’t exactly like typical male or female bodies. Rene Coig objected to respondents being asked their sex at birth and then being asked their current gender. Others were disheartened by transgender being separated out as a category from male, female and nonbinary in the gender question instead of including the options of transgender man or transgender female. Several Republicans in the U.S. Senate have objected to some of the proposed questions.

Trump is giving every impression that his second term would be even more aberrant than his first, as he vows to use presidential power to exact retribution against his enemies. While a Biden vs. Trump race would be a rematch of 2020, it would not necessarily be the same. And then there were the many tributes, gifts and drawings that poured in after her son, Peter Wang, was shot multiple times and killed at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School. On this morning, Ms. Zhang pointed out a framed letter. There was also a portrait of Peter, which Ms. Zhang said might have been drawn by a famous artist, but she wasn’t quite sure.

CNN —GOP Sen. Marco Rubio defended former President Donald Trump’s controversial comment that he would encourage Russia to do “whatever the hell they want” to a NATO member country that didn’t meet defense spending guidelines. Rubio went on to note that the US did not leave NATO during Trump’s presidency — though Trump made private threats about withdrawing multiple times, according to The New York Times. “Donald Trump is not a member of the Council on Foreign Relations,” Rubio told CNN’s Jake Tapper. NATO has a target that each member country spends a minimum of 2% of gross domestic product on defense, and most countries are not meeting that target. They’re attacking Donald Trump,” Rubio said.

Senators on Sunday voted to move forward with a $95 billion aid package to fund Ukraine, Israel and Taiwan, a positive sign that the long-awaited foreign aid could have the votes to pass after a weekend of slow-going negotiations. "I think we're going to pass this spending bill for Ukraine. Since Wednesday, lawmakers have been working the tedious Senate process of spending hours in negotiations, followed by procedural votes and more negotiation. On Sunday, Paul estimated that at the going pace, the final vote would likely take place late Tuesday or early Wednesday. A $118 billion version of the bill already failed on the Senate floor last Wednesday.

CNN —A probe that spared President Joe Biden from criminal charges paradoxically dealt him a threatening political blow. The president’s defenders often get frustrated when the political conversation is dominated by Biden’s age – rather than Trump’s repeated challenges to the rule of law. In another CNN poll last week, 46% of Democrats were concerned about Biden’s age. Hur’s report rebuked Biden for willfully retaining classified information, including top secret documents after he left the vice presidency. North Carolina Republican Sen. Haley laid out a stinging character study of the former president in an interview with CNN’s Jake Tapper on Thursday. Grouping Trump with President Joe Biden, she said it was “absurd” that the country would be stuck with two 80-year-old candidates. In recent campaign events, Haley has also questioned Trump’s morality and capacity to tell right from wrong. They had to find a way to exploit Trump’s greatest general election liabilities in the knowledge that most Republican voters had no interest in hearing about them. South Carolina state Rep. Bill Taylor hit back at some of Haley’s recent criticisms that Trump only thinks of himself.
