Sixty metres into the men’s 100-metre Olympic final in Paris and Noah Lyles is third. AdvertisementThe headline is Lyles winning by five-thousandths of a second in the closest men’s 100m Olympic final ever — and the hardest for which to qualify. Lyles (9.78sec) ran the fastest time in an Olympic 100m final since Bolt’s Olympic record (9.63) in London back in 2012. The final frontier for him to become Olympic champion was the start… so here’s the story of how a 75-year-old and a stickman helped give Lyles the edge. At Lyles’ training base in Clermont, Florida, Mann, now 75, has a marquee set up by the side of the track.

CNN —A group of scientists has devised a plan to safeguard Earth’s species in a cryogenic biorepository on the moon. In order to reach the required temperatures on earth, a supply of liquid nitrogen, electricity and human staff are required. To reduce this risk, Hagedorn and the team thought about how cryopreservation could be achieved passively, which is impossible on Earth, and alighted on the moon. “We aren’t saying what if the Earth fails – if the Earth is biologically destroyed this biorepository won’t matter,” Hagedorn said in the statement. Sally Keith, a senior lecturer in Marine Biology at Lancaster University, who was not involved in the research, had similar concerns.

CNN —Not content with dressing the top dogs of the music scene, from Beyoncé and Usher to Christina Aguilera, Dolce & Gabbana now has its sights on making actual dogs that bit more stylish. Inspiration for the product that the world didn’t know it needed came from the “unconditional love” that Domenico Dolce – one half of the famous designer duo – has for his “loyal dog Fefé,” according to the company’s website. A series of well-groomed dogs appear on camera in a promotional film on the D&G website. As classical music plays in the background, a narrator says: “I am delicate, charismatic, authentic, sensitive, enigmatic, rebel, fresh, irresistible, clean. For the past decade, I've been helping New Yorkers from all income brackets and in every borough organize their spaces. Get rid of all the packagingOh my god, the sheer volume of appliance and electronic packaging and manuals I've seen. Instead, use your precious closet space to store items that look good on you now. If you change sizes, you can get new clothes, either from a store or from people in your community. Closet space is a precious commodity.

But Lyles is aiming to do the opposite of cramming his listed 5-foot-10 frame and 6-foot-9 personality into a traditional box. You have all these other athletes as stars, rock stars, popular wherever they go. Still, Noahstradamus predicted he’d win gold in both the 100 and the 200 in Paris. Certainly, when you think of the track stars whose fame extended beyond the ceiling of their sport, it came with heroic feats. He’d not only cement himself an Olympic champion, he’d be primed to fully take advantage of it with the 2028 Olympics coming to America.

CNN —A 19th-century shipwreck packed with crates of unopened champagne has been found in the depths of the Baltic Sea. But as tech firms plan to invest billions of dollars in generative AI technologies, there's been another explanation for job cuts. While there's been a mountain of speculation about if and when AI technologies like ChatGPT could displace workers, their near-term impact on job losses could be less about job replacement and more about the cost of AI investments. The risks of AI job replacement remains to be seenIn the big picture, Netzer said he expects AI technologies to be an "enhancer rather than a replacer of jobs" in the years ahead. More specifically, they're taking aim at a widespread rule that requires almost every new apartment building in the US to include at least two separate stairwells. This part of local codes, they say, is an outdated safety measure that really just makes apartment units smaller, more expensive, and darker (yes, darker). City planners there sometimes call these single-stair buildings "Seattle Specials" — they simply wouldn't be possible in pretty much any other city. Almost all of Europe, as well as Asia, Mexico and South America, allows single-stair buildings of six stories or higher. Germany allows single-stair buildings to stretch to about 20 stories, while Switzerland has no such limit.
