A Vermont mother wanted to teach her then-14-year-old son a lesson after he came home with electronic cigarettes he stole from a gas station. MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) — The city of Memphis released hours of additional video and audio on Tuesday in the case of five fired police officers charged with the violent beating and death of Tyre Nichols last January. He turned political debates over racial integration, non-violent civil disobedience and voting rights into a national, then global, referendum on freedom. And, as their forerunners did, they continue to press for voting rights, equal education and environmental justice in communities of color – all a continuation of King’s legacy. The passage of the 1964 Civil Rights Act and the 1965 Voting Rights Act were not pre-ordained - nor were they universally beloved pieces of legislation.

China represents the world's largest population of English language learners, and this multilingual environment impacts the school and the students. One can often hear students speaking English together in the halls due to either school policy or an interest in the language. China boasts a nearly flawless high school graduation rate, and students often begin their education in an early years program. As a teacher in China, I'm more respected than in the USTeaching is an esteemed and sought-after profession, and teachers in China will often find more respect from students and parents than those in the US.
