Morgan Stanley is offering up alternative ways to play artificial intelligence beyond the usual tech "enablers" that have come to dominate investor attention. A report issued Tuesday entitled "15 Ways to Play AI" anticipates a "broadening out of the AI theme over the remainder of 2024 and into 2025" and notable AI adoption in areas such as gaming, education and biotechnology. The study, an outgrowth of Morgan Stanley's technology, media and telecom investment conference last week, highlights "the Tech Diffusion theme from all angles and all geographies." Against this backdrop, here are some of Morgan Stanley's top picks as AI broadens out: Several popular technology stocks made the list alongside AI mainstays such as Nvidia , Microsoft and Alphabet . Morgan Stanley included workplace management software company Asana on two of its AI lists, one of companies that are likely to get a productivity boost from AI, and another that highlighted "Global Adopters" of AI.

Palantir CEO Alex Karp skewered short sellers — investors who bet on the decline in a company's stock price — in an interview with CNBC on Wednesday. "I love burning the short sellers," Karp told CNBC's Sara Eisen on "Money Movers." "Almost nothing makes a human happier than taking the lines of cocaine away from these short sellers, who like, are going short on a truly great American company. Not just ours, but just love pulling down great American companies so they can pay for their coke." When a stock goes up, short sellers are on the hook to buy back shares, potentially at a huge loss.

John Marshall of Goldman's derivatives research team said in a Feb. 22 note that investors can use options to position for a reversal in the momentum trade. Goldman's approach to hedging momentum is two-pronged: buying put options on high momentum stocks, and buying call options on "anti-momentum" stocks. "If a true momentum reversal were to occur, we see the potential to profit on both sides of the trade," Marshall wrote. Goldman has a sell rating on SkyWest and a neutral rating on Palantir. On the other leg of the trade, Goldman identified stocks with buy ratings from its analysts that have fallen over the past 12 months.

Woodard noted that changes to the S & P 500 typically occur following a period of strong growth. The S & P 500 has gained more than 24% in the past year and has climbed more than 4% from the start of 2024. There are two main criteria for adding a stock to the S & P 500, the strategist said. Here's a look at some of the stocks Bank of America thinks are in contention for entry to the S & P 500. Bank of America analyst Craig Siegenthaler thinks the stock could be added to the S & P 500 as soon as mid-March following the index's planned rebalance.

The 31-year-old is the CEO and co-founder of Northwood Space, a company based in El Segundo, California that aims to mass-produce ground stations — otherwise known as the antennae that communicate with space satellites. "While everybody else was making their sourdough starters [during the Covid-19 pandemic], we were building antennas out of random crap we could find at Home Depot ... and receiving data from [National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration] satellites," Mendler told CNBC on Monday while announcing her startup. "I'm studying anthropology," Mendler told ABC's "Jimmy Kimmel Live" in 2015. While at Harvard, she served as co-president of the Harvard Space Law Society, according to her LinkedIn profile.
