The potential Georgia connection surfaced a day after authorities in Washington state said four county election offices had to be evacuated as election workers were processing ballots cast in Tuesday’s election, delaying vote-counting. Election offices in Seattle’s King County and ones in Skagit, Spokane and Pierce counties received envelopes containing suspicious powders. Political Cartoons View All 1237 ImagesTacoma Police spokesperson William Muse said a message inside the envelope received by Pierce County election workers said “something to the effect of stopping the election." It was not immediately clear how authorities came to suspect that a letter might have been sent to the Fulton County election office or whether similar ones went to election offices in other states. "Election officials should be free from fear and intimidation, which is why I’ve called on the General Assembly to increase penalties for election interference,” Raffensperger said.

SEATTLE (AP) — Four county elections offices in Washington state were evacuated Wednesday after they received envelopes containing suspicious powders — including two that field-tested positive for fentanyl — while workers were processing ballots from Tuesday’s election. Renton police detective Robert Onishi confirmed that an envelope received by workers at a King County elections office field-tested positive for fentanyl, while Spokane Police Department spokesperson Julie Humphreys said fentanyl was found in an envelope at the Spokane County Elections office, The Seattle Times reported. Halei Watkins, communications manager for King County Elections, told The Seattle Times the envelope opened by staffers in Renton on Wednesday morning was not a ballot. The Minnesota Vikings and the Las Vegas Raiders are proof that major midseason upheaval doesn't necessarily mean it's time to start aiming for the draft instead of the playoffs. I know what it was like to learn this in three weeks and have to get on the field," Risner said. “I know a lot of nicknames per se, but name names, that’s for this week, that’s the assignment for this week," he said. The Raiders became the first team since 2009 to score fewer than 20 points on offense in each of the first eight games of the season. “So if that’s the case," Gronkowski said, "I think Josh McDaniels comes back as offensive coordinator in New England, that’s for sure.”There'd be no Brady waiting for him this time.

CNN —Prosecutors with special counsel Jack Smith’s office have accused former President Donald Trump’s legal team of seeking to manipulate the courts in their bid to delay his trials past the 2024 presidential election. Currently, the 2020 election federal trial is set to begin in early March, and the Florida documents case is set to go to trial in late May. The request may be a long-shot before Chutkan of the DC federal District Court, who has indicated she wants the March trial date to hold. Prosecutors from special counsel Jack Smith’s office – which is prosecuting both federal cases against Trump – seized on Trump’s request in DC as they argued to keep the Florida federal trial in the spring. Neither judge has said if Trump’s federal trial dates will stay as is.

Trump’s lawyers have repeatedly complained to the judge in the Mar-a-Lago criminal document-mishandling case that they haven’t had proper access to classified evidence in the case as they prepare for a trial next May. Cannon, a Trump appointee, has so far given Trump’s team some of the leeway they’ve asked for in the documents investigation. The defense teams have access to more than 1 million pages of information in the case, according to court filings. In a filing last week, prosecutors told the judge Trump’s team has cried wolf about their access to evidence in the case, including classified records. Trump’s legal team has been reviewing and discussing classified evidence in Miami, most recently on Tuesday, when the former president joined his lawyers in the SCIF during the afternoon, according to a source familiar with the matter.

HENDERSON, Nev. (AP) — When the Las Vegas Raiders hired Josh McDaniels in January 2022, he said he had learned from his first stint as an NFL head coach. The Raiders under McDaniels went 6-11 in 2022 and are 3-5 so far this season for a .360 winning percentage. The one game Las Vegas reached that figure came because of a fourth-quarter safety in a 21-17 victory over the Patriots on Oct. 15. The Raiders lost a record-tying five games after taking double-digit leads, including blowing a 20-0 halftime lead in his home debut against Arizona for the biggest collapse in franchise history. McDaniels finished his tenure with the third-worst record of any Raiders coach with at least 25 games.

She was responding to the latest request by Mr. Trump’s lawyers to delay the proceedings, part of a pattern in which they have sought to push his trial dates back as far as possible. Mr. Trump has made no secret of his hopes to postpone any legal reckoning until after Election Day. That could provide him a chance, should he win the presidency again, to order the federal charges against him dropped or to attempt to pardon himself in the federal cases if convicted. Mr. Trump’s legal team has repeatedly argued that the case should go to trial only after the 2024 election is over. They rarely mention in public, however, that if that were to happen and Mr. Trump were to win the race, he could dispose of the charges by having his attorney general simply drop them.

Photo Illustration: Annie ZhaoJustice might be blind, but the two separate federal prosecutions of former President Donald Trump are showing how differently judges mete it out, coloring the pace and tenor of the high-profile cases months before they come to trial. In a courthouse blocks from the U.S. Capitol, the judge presiding over Trump’s trial on charges of conspiring to reverse the 2020 presidential election agreed this week with prosecutors arguing that the former president’s attacks on the special counsel team and potential witnesses threatened the integrity of the case and should be restricted. TACOMA, Wash. (AP) — No one will face criminal charges following a two-car crash in Tacoma, Washington, that killed six Arizona residents in July, according to Pierce County prosecutors. A seventh occupant — a Phoenix man — survived with serious injuries but had no memory of the crash. Esparza was driving, and the Phoenix man who survived was in the front passenger’s seat. The driver and passenger in the BMW — a 42-year-old Tacoma man and his 40-year-old wife — were uninjured. There was insufficient evidence to prove the BMW driver acted with disregard for the safety of others, according to Deputy Prosecuting Attorney Elizabeth Dasse.

FORT PIERCE, Fla. (AP) — A judge on Thursday scolded federal prosecutors in the classified documents case against former President Donald Trump as she abruptly postponed a hearing to determine if the lawyer for a co-defendant had a conflict of interest. U.S. District Judge Aileen Cannon accused prosecutors of “wasting the court's time” by raising new arguments that they had not made in earlier court filings. She said she would set a hearing for a later date for Walt Nauta, a Trump valet charged with conspiring with Trump to conceal classified documents from investigators. Both men were charged alongside Trump with obstructing government efforts to recover classified documents hoarded at Mar-a-Lago, the former president's Florida estate. De Oliveira is accused of lying to investigators when he claimed — falsely, prosecutors say — he hadn’t even seen boxes moved into Mar-a-Lago after Trump left the White House.

Palestinians break into the Israeli side of Israel-Gaza border fence after gunmen infiltrated areas of southern Israel, October 7, 2023. REUTERS/Mohammed Fayq Abu Mostafa Acquire Licensing RightsWASHINGTON, Oct 11 (Reuters) - Iran likely knew that Palestinian Hamas militants were planning "operations against Israel" but initial U.S. intelligence reports show that some Iranian leaders were surprised by the Islamist group's unprecedented attack from Gaza, U.S. sources said on Wednesday. Those Iranian officials would ordinarily have been informed about such a massive operation by Hamas, which Tehran has long supported with weapons and funds, according to a person familiar with the intelligence. The source familiar with the intelligence told Reuters that U.S. intelligence agencies were still digging for any evidence of Iranian involvement as well as reviewing older intelligence for clues. Retaliatory Israeli strikes have killed 1,055 people and wounded more than 5,100, Gaza's Hamas authorities said.

The surprise Hamas attack has dealt a blow to U.S. efforts to broker a landmark normalization deal between Israel and Saudi Arabia and complicated Washington's approach toward Iran, Hamas' longtime benefactor. “Quite simply, all efforts at normalization are on hold for the foreseeable future,” said Jon Alterman, head of the Middle East program at the Center for Strategic and International Studies, contradicting the official U.S. government line. Khaled Elgindy, a former Palestinian negotiations adviser, accused the Biden administration of leading an Israeli-Saudi normalization process that mostly bypassed the Palestinians and their hopes of ending Israeli occupation. “That sort of neglect is part of why we're seeing what we're seeing,” said Elgindy, now at the Middle East Institute. The immediate challenge is preventing the war from spiraling into a broader conflict, administration officials say, especially preventing the Iran-backed Lebanese group Hezbollah from opening a second front on Israel's northern border.

The Pierce County Medical Examiner ruled the March 3, 2020, death of Ellis, 33, a homicide caused by lack of oxygen during physical restraint. Collins told Pierce County sheriff’s detectives that Ellis had attacked him by hurling him through the air to land on his back.
