Katrina Adams was honored as the IOC’s Gender Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Champion for 2023. ‘Only just now getting here’Getting closer to this landmark of gender equality is “incredibly important,” Olympic weightlifter Jourdan Delacruz told CNN. “Just seeing all the love pour into women’s sport, it just opens up all these avenues. “If you don’t have female decision makers in the room that understand female athletes, it’s very hard to make decisions,” she said. And we know that without conscious, intentional action, to move towards gender equality, we consistently see regression.”

During Ramadan, as her family fasted and prayed, Lina Boussaha, a professional soccer player, eagerly tore open a package in her bedroom in France. But she had recently decided she wanted to wear a hijab regularly, even during games. A muse to the designer Jean Patou, Lenglen became tennis’ first fashion icon with her signature headscarf and then-shocking shorter hems. Anne White was banned from wearing a white catsuit at Wimbledon four decades before Serena Williams caused a stir with a similar cut at the French Open. Ian Kington/AFP/Getty ImagesAt the US, French and Australian Open, players have challenged definitions of what tennis clothes can be thanks to looser rules (subject to referee opinion). Though she cited its circulation benefits following a severe blood-clot scare with the birth of her child, the French Open said it would bar the style in the future. However, the Women’s Tennis Association formally allowed it, and Williams continued to wear versions of the bodysuit at the 2019 and 2021 Australian Opens, normalizing the agile and simplified cut for the tennis court.

"Buying because the stock price has gone down without knowing some of the underlying issues or without understanding some of the underlying activities, could be problematic," says Clark Bellin, president and chief investment officer at Bellwether Wealth. After all, a stock could take major losses and then soar to new heights à la Apple. But what about that same markdown in the price of that company's stock? You'll just have to figure some things out before you buy, says Sam Stovall, chief investment strategist at CFRA. Rather than scrambling to do research, he says, keep a watchlist of stocks you'd be interested in buying at the right price.

Hal Lawton, the chief executive of the Brentwood, Tennessee-based company, had said these initiatives “make great business sense for Tractor Supply.”But Tractor Supply has decided that all of those risks are now worth ignoring. By walking away from diversity and climate goals, Tractor Supply has become the latest corporate giant to retreat from progressive initiatives it once promoted, joining Bud Light, Target and others. Tractor Supply declined to comment on these statements. Tractor Supply’s customer base has historically been primarily older men, who lean Republican, but Tractor Supply has increasingly tried to draw Millennials and women, who tend to favor Democrats. Tractor Supply’s reversal could hurt it with these customers, who could be crucial as the company’s historic base ages out of the market.

Nike's "performance" segment, meanwhile, includes many of its core sports products, such as basketball shoes. AdvertisementWhile revenue from performance products grew in Q4, declines in its lifestyle business overshadowed them, contributing to the worse-than-expected results. In its last fiscal year, lifestyle products have grown to about 60% of Nike's business, UBS analyst Jay Sole estimates. "One of our big takeaways from Nike's 4Q report is its lifestyle business needs a major reset," Sole said. That could help drive performance sales — especially those through Nike's digital business, a major pain point at the moment for the company.

"When you invest in a jersey, that means you really appreciate that person, their character, and what they bring to the game," Krieger said. Sports Innovation Lab estimates the women's sports merchandise industry is worth $4 billion — conservatively. People simply don't know where to find merchandise — 32% of fans reported having an issue finding a seller for women's sports merchandise compared to just 18% of fans looking for men's, according to Sports Innovation Lab's 2024 Women's Sports Merchandise Survey. But while big brands are making strides in partnering with women's professional teams to create merchandise, the women's sports merch buying experience is still lacking. Building the women's game takes an ecosystem of collaboration involving fans, athletes, leagues, team sponsors, and retailers.
