Read previewNvidia cofounder and CEO Jensen Huang is in Taiwan this week, where he's getting rockstar reception and boosting the stock market. The drills started on Thursday, but Taiwan's stock market was little changed over the period. "In this case, the AI equity theme, physical investment in AI, and the wider upturn in electronic component demand are driving robust Taiwanese growth and the strong stock market performance," wrote Green. He added that an outright invasion of Taiwan by China is "very unlikely" due to high military and economic risk. "If the macro backdrop is positive and China remains far from achieving 'fortress-like' economic conditions, future sell-offs may offer attractive buying opportunities," Green wrote.

Over the past turbulent decade, through myriad self-inflicted troubles, Hunter Biden has relied on the kindness of friends and family — wives and girlfriends, business partners, his father and, most recently, a Los Angeles lawyer who provided the president’s son a $7 million lifeline. With Mr. Biden’s trial on gun charges set to begin on Monday in Delaware, Mr. Morris has said he might need to sell some real estate holdings or other assets if others do not step up to fill the gap, according to people familiar with the situation. He hopes to pressure the president’s advisers into helping find new donors, people close to the situation said. Financial troubles are nothing new for President Biden’s son, and his current woes are unlikely to prevent him from mounting a sturdy defense. But it adds a layer of stress and uncertainty, and could limit his ability to hire expert witnesses or other specialists in the gun case or in his trial on tax charges in California in September, they said.

Caledonia Investments could see its stock price soar by more than 35% if restrictions on share buybacks are lifted, according to fund manager Brian McCormick. McCormick, who runs the Jupiter Global Value fund at Jupiter Asset Management, said Caledonia's share buybacks are limited due to restrictions in share ownership as set out in the U.K.'s Takeover Code. In addition, when the fund performs a share buyback while its stock trades below its NAV, it is buying its own assets at a 37% discount. Caledonia's buyback limits When a company buys back shares, those shares are canceled, which can increase the percentage ownership of remaining shareholders. Analysts also agree that Caledonia's limits on share buybacks right now are holding back the share price.

European stock markets are heading for a lower open on Wednesday following the worst session for a month. The benchmark Stoxx 600 dropped 0.6% on Tuesday, its steepest loss since April 30, as investors focus on the interest rate outlook and monitor rising global bond yields. European marketsA solid crop of first-quarter and full-year earnings has put the Stoxx on course for a monthly gain. "Earnings season was generally better than feared," Marcus Morris-Eyton, portfolio manager for Europe and global growth at AllianceBernstein, told CNBC's "Squawk Box Europe" on Tuesday. "51% of companies beat expectations, but actually two thirds of companies beat or met expectations, and when you dig beneath the surface what is particularly interesting is the margin strength across European companies during the quarter," Morris-Eyton said.

The company's balance of margin expansion with the potential for faster top-line growth should lead to strong earnings growth. Non-GAAP operating margin benefited from the lower cost of revenues, sales and marketing, and general and administrative expenses. Management reduced its revenue growth forecast for the subscription and support business to slightly below 10% over last year. The adjusted operating margin target of 32.5% was reaffirmed and is in line with expectations. Smartmatic and Newsmax have since been embroiled in the years-long defamation case, which is slated to go to trial this September in Delaware Superior Court, barring an out-of-court settlement. Smartmatic further accused Newsmax of intentionally “destroying relevant evidence” by deleting texts and emails from senior officials. Fox News famously paid more than $787 million to Dominion Voting Systems to settle a case last year over similar 2020 election lies on its airwaves. A trial could put Newsmax’s financial future in peril, but there is one major difference between the Newsmax and Fox cases. The network denies wrongdoing and maintains that its 2020 election coverage is protected by the First Amendment.

There are people using wheelchair assistance who don't need it at all," Biffle said at a Wings Club luncheon on Thursday in New York. Biffle wasn't talking about travelers' personal wheelchairs but rather the service airlines provide when travelers arrive at the airport. In what was the most anticipated quarter this earnings season, Nvidia far outpaced lofty expectations on the top and bottom lines. Adjusted gross margin of 78.9% also beat the Street's 77.2% estimate, according to market data platform FactSet. CNN —A feather from a long-extinct New Zealand bird has set a record after selling for $46,521 NZD (about $28,400 USD), the auction house handling the sale has said. The huia bird feather, which was expected to sell for up to $3,000 NZD ($1,830), smashed the estimate on Monday to become the world’s most expensive feather ever sold, Webb’s Auction House said. For Maori, the bird’s feathers were a mark of high status and the distinctive, white-tipped plumage were used for ceremonial headdresses. Walmart's chief people officer, Donna Morris, commented similarly in a memo announcing the layoffs and relocations earlier that week. She wrote that working in an office would help workers collaborate, innovate, and "move even faster." Still, some employees continued working remotely, and several satellite offices remained open in cities like Atlanta, Dallas, Toronto, and Seattle. He also said he doesn't think the company is using this RTO mandate as a cover for achieving cost savings through workforce reductions, commonly referred to as "quiet firing," but that it's more part of Walmart's ethos. For the remote worker BI spoke with, the next few weeks will be filled with uncertainty.
