That same day, Broadbery achieved a different, but equally momentous, milestone in his Wall Street career. He's seen support for traditionally underrepresented groups, like the LGBTQ+ community, become institutionalized at most Wall Street firms — a welcome improvement. There's also much less stigma now around being "too gay" for Wall Street, he added. So it's like, how gay is too gay for Wall Street?" "I think Wall Street is Wall Street and in the finance industry there are certain norms and certain things you need to do to conform — the working environment, the working hours, the hierarchy, the path to promotion — those things are what they are," he said.

In early November, Meta employee Rawan, 29, came across an eerie Sunday headline in the New York Times: "Meta Is Said to Plan Significant Job Cuts This Week." Rawan joined Meta in 2019 after several jobs at various businesses around the world and a year in China on a Schwarzman Scholar fellowship. "My first thought was 'Um, OK. Lemme get up and wash my face because today is about to be a long day,'" Rawan recalls. PROCESS We meet in the back room of the Revision Lounge, a bar in the East Village, where one of the members works. As a theater company, we’re still learning what life after the pandemic is like. POOR PLAYERS We usually break out our scripts and refine what we’ve done or are transforming. Our next play is Macbeth, which we perform at various places, the bar, Sure We Can, or at people’s homes. Every actor learns the complete text of the play and we change roles on impulse so it’s constantly shifting.

Liu writes that being a full-time working mother is hard and no one can do it without support. that being a full-time working mother is hard and no one can do it without support. The truth is, being a full-time working mother outside the home, especially to young children, is hard. Realistically, most mothers work out of necessity, and they are the norm, even as they are judged negatively for making that choice. Nevertheless, the motherhood penalty is real, and it is felt by so many working mothers who silently struggle to keep all the plates spinning, hoping that none of them tip over.

The sexism that has prevented girls from competing in sports has also prevented women from becoming youth coaches. In March, Nike launched Coaching HER in a partnership with the University of Minnesota's Tucker Center for Research on Girls & Women in Sport. Fry co-founded the Strong Girls program at the University of Kansas, where young girls are assigned a female college student as their mentor. She says this approach isn't only benefit to girls, but extends to youth athletes of all genders, and female coaches as well. Nike's 20,000 female coach goal Nike is one of the few major companies directly addressing this issue.

Monday marked the official closing of UBS' acquisition of Swiss rival Credit Suisse, a deal both sides weren't exactly thrilled about. Specifically, the bank identified the Credit Suisse execs sitting in positions of power within its investment bank and wealth management division. UBS has not been bashful in hinting at what it is, and is not, interested in integrating from Credit Suisse. Credit Suisse was in rough shape by the time it got acquired, but that's not to say there weren't talented bankers there. Throughout my 21-year career, I've heard a variety of advice including:It's on me, the employee, to seek career opportunities (which, when I was 25, was confusing). I also reserve mornings — the time when I'm most focused and creative — for tasks that require deep concentration and decision making. I implement two-way-door decision makingThis approach is a staple of how I think and approach decision making. It allows me and my team to move quickly throughout the day, maximizing high-velocity decision making. Here's how it works: I always assess whether a decision I'm making is irreversible — a "one-way door" decision that can't be walked back. EU looks to 100 unicorns to boost green, digital goals

BRUSSELS, June 1 (Reuters) - The European Commission kicked off an initiative on Thursday to help 100 unicorns scale up to become Europe's deep tech champions and help drive the bloc's green and digital objectives. Unicorns are startups valued at $1 billion or more while deep tech startups focus on significant scientific or engineering developments. The EIC Scale Up 100 initiative will identify and support the growth of 100 promising European deep tech companies with the potential to become unicorns, the EU executive said in a statement. Startups will be picked in areas that contribute to Europe's green and digital transition such as sustainability (climate and energy), digital and health. The selected startups will also get a helping hand from a group called the EIC Scaling Club which includes 100 investors including venture capital, growth and government funds, 100 companies with innovation units and 100 independent mentors.

Kim Reynolds signed into law a bill rolling back child labor protections. The bill is one of many targeting child labor laws across the nation, signed largely by GOP governors. Businesses have increasingly reported labor shortages since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, which has killed over 1,127,000 Americans since 2020, according to the World Health Organization. The Iowa Governor's decision to roll back child labor laws is an apparent response to business owners who say they cannot find enough workers. Arkansas' unemployment rate was 2.8%, New Hampshire's was 2.1%, and New Jersey's was 3.5% — the only state that has recently rolled back child labor protections with a higher average than the nationwide 3.4% unemployment rate.
Oracle co-founder and Republican megadonor Larry Ellison is preparing to spend millions of dollars backing Sen. Tim Scott's run for president. The Opportunity Matters Fund PAC has been rebranded for Scott's White House run with a new name: Trust In The Mission PAC, or TIM PAC. Another veteran Republican fundraiser told CNBC that Ellison is already planning to donate up to $10 million to the TIM PAC in the early going of Scott's run. Ellison has signaled to allies that he could give at least between $20 million and $30 million more this cycle, this person said. Ellison admires Scott a great deal for the senator's strong support for Israel, according to a lobbyist who's worked with Oracle and has known Ellison for years.
Big Tech is losing its appeal for new graduates and young tech workers starting to look elsewhere to launch their careers. Peers and mentors warn them to avoid the trappings of embarking on a Big Tech career. Based on conversations with students and companies, even students from top schools including Stanford and MIT and junior engineers from top tech companies are "feeling the crunch now," Lerner said. Tech students are applying to jobs in other fieldsWhile students and young engineers are still interested in pursuing tech-focused careers, where they want to put in their time is changing. The impact of waning interest in Big Tech among students on major companies remains to be seen.
