HOUSTON, March 6 - The Biden administration's climate law, which provides hundreds of billions of dollars in clean energy incentives to fight global warming, won't be fully effective without permitting reform, executives told the CERAWeek energy conference on Monday. "If the permitting reform doesn't happen, the IRA may not get its full use and benefit," Bold Baatar, who runs the copper business at mining giant Rio Tinto Plc (RIO.AX)(RIO.L), told the Houston conference. White House Energy Adviser John Podesta told the conference permitting reform was high on the administration's agenda. "The permitting process for clean energy infrastructure, including transmission, is plagued by delays and bottlenecks," Podesta said. "I was a little bit nervous, because when John Podesta kept talking about permitting reform, he only talked about renewables," Sullivan told the conference.

Why Stock-Market Tourists Flock to New York

Competition between European financial hubs may just hand more power to the U.S.SoftBank’s choice of New York for a listing of British microchip designer Arm has led to predictable hand-wringing about national decline in the U.K. capital. But this isn’t just about London. On Wednesday, when Bloomberg reported SoftBank’s latest plan, industrial-gas giant Linde also delisted its shares from the Frankfurt stock exchange. With a market value of $175 billion, the company was the most valuable company in Germany’s Dax index.
Here's an update on our energy, industrials and materials names in Jim Cramer's Charitable Trust, the portfolio we use at the CNBC Investing Club. In 2022, by contrast, the priority was its variable dividend, which changed quarter by quarter depending on its financial results. The industrial company is one of our more recently added holdings. He also mentioned that Halliburton's top boss, Jeff Miller, has expressed notable conviction that the company's stock price is too cheap. The alternative would be consolidating our holdings to two oil-and-gas producers, along with Halliburton as our third energy stock.
Tesla recently announced a strategy shift away from Europe as it seeks to benefit from unprecedented subsidies in the United States. But it's not the only company reviewing investment decisions vis-à-vis Europe. The landmark legislation, which features green subsidies for businesses, has raised competition issues for European companies — and upset politicians in the region. Northvolt, a Swedish battery maker; Linde, a chemical giant from Germany; Volkswagen, the carmaker; Enel , the Italian energy giant, have all expressed an interest in profiting from U.S. subsidies. It is still early to assess just how much investment could drift away from Europe as a result of Biden's policy.

The Brent crude benchmark opened slightly lower on Tuesday as the U.S. dollar strengthened and traders waited for cues from the U.S. Federal Reserve meeting minutes, after optimism over demand amid tightening supplies drove prices higher on Monday. Brent crude was down 59 cents, or 0.5%, at $83.57 a barrel on Tuesday. U.S. West Texas Intermediate crude (WTI) for March, which expires on Tuesday, was up 78 cents, or 1.02%, at $77.12 at 0146 GMT. "The U.S. dollar strengthened and pressed on the oil price in the Asian session today, causing a pullback in the oil markets from yesterday's rebound," said Tina Teng, an analyst at CMC Markets. Russia plans to cut oil production by 500,000 barrels per day, equating to about 5% of its output, in March after the West imposed price caps on Russian oil and oil products.

Morgan Stanley honed in on publicly traded companies that are improving on ESG in ways that can boost shareholder returns. "We think ESG rate of change will be a critical focus for investors looking to identify companies that can generate alpha and ESG impact," he said in a note to clients in late 2022. Though he said both approaches to ESG screens can be useful, he specifically looked for companies doing under-the-radar ESG work. Eighty-percent of analysts rate the stock a buy, FactSet data shows. But the country reversed some major policies in response to the abysmal GDP growth. China's GDP grew by 3% in 2022 — the worst since the chaotic Cultural Revolution ended. Most recently, after three years of pandemic lockdowns and isolation, China abruptly reversed course and abolished its zero-COVID policy — leaving the world guessing why. China's GDP grew only 3.0% in 2022 — the worst in nearly half a century since the chaotic Cultural Revolution ended. China's GDP growth is vital because it is the world's second-largest economy after the US, so it's a driving force for global investment and trade.

Feb 7 (Reuters) - Germany's Linde (LIN.N), on Tuesday forecast higher earnings for 2023 and said it plans to invest $7-$9 billion over the next two-to-three years in clean energy projects to benefit from demand from companies seeking to cut emissions. Chief Executive Sanjiv Lamba said on a conference call that as part of that investment, Linde plans to spend $3 billion to convert 11 to 13 existing assets to clean hydrogen. The total investment opportunity for the German company in the United States alone could exceed $30 billion over the next decade, CEO Lamba said in late 2022. It reported fourth-quarter adjusted earnings of $3.16 per share, beating analysts' $2.91 per share estimate in a Refinitiv poll.
