Bitcoin is just getting started after its postelection rally, according to Fundstrat's Tom Lee, and is still on track to hit six figures by the end of the year. "I think because [it's] post-halving and now bitcoin is becoming a lot more relevant ... the regulatory overhang is diminishing — that there's a lot of upside from here." The flagship cryptocurrency climbed to fresh records this week after President-elect Donald Trump' s victory, which was widely anticipated as a bullish catalyst for the crypto industry at large. During Trump's campaign for reelection he promised the crypto industry a more favorable regulatory environment that would include appointing a more crypto-friendly leader to chair the Securities and Exchange Commission. Bitcoin is up 79% this year, compared with the S & P 500's 25% gain.

Russian President Vladimir Putin and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un meet in Pyongyang this past June. That means the North Korean leader may look for benefit in Trump’s return.

SINGAPORE — Vitol is eyeing the metals market with global petroleum demand expected to peak in a decade, signaled Russell Hardy, CEO of Vitol, the world's largest independent energy trader. In contrast to the eventual decline of the crude industry, metals business is going to witness a "great deal of growth through the electrification phase," he added. "So we quite like the idea of being involved in the bigger metal markets. And the three bigger metal markets are steel and iron ore, copper and aluminum," he said. In August, Vitol announced its acquisition of Noble Resources, a Hong Kong-based trader specializing in oil, coal and metallurgical coke, which is used to make iron.

CNN —President-elect Donald Trump could be in a position to select the government’s top ethics czar when he assumes office in January – after a key ally in the Senate blocked President Joe Biden’s pick to head the Office of Government Ethics. The federal agency is charged with monitoring compliance with ethics laws that are aimed at preventing corruption. Walter Shaub, the OGE director when Trump first took office in 2017, clashed repeatedly with the then-president at the start of Trump’s first term. Among other things, he openly criticized Trump for not relinquishing ownership of his real estate and licensing empire. The previous OGE director, Trump appointee Emory Rounds, left the position in July 2023.

Hong Kong's Hang Seng index futures were at 20,658, slightly higher than the HSI's last close of 20,567.52. Australia's S&P/ASX 200 slid 0.32% as traders keep an eye on the upcoming central bank rate decision. Analysts at HSBC and the Commonwealth Bank of Australia expect the Reserve Bank of Australia to leave the cash rate unchanged. South Korea's consumer inflation in October rose 1.3% from a year ago, slightly cooler than Reuters' expectations of 1.4%.
