Investors searching for income can find some bargains in dividend stocks, according to Ben Kirby, co-head of investments at Thornburg Investment Management. Now investors have an added benefit in that dividend stocks are selling at a big discount, he said. When looking for the right dividend stock, Kirby wants companies offering solid balance sheets and free-cash-flow, as well as competitive advantages and sustainable profit margins. Here are some of the stocks Kirby owns in his funds and that he particularly likes right now. If the reductions continue, coupled with the stock's dividend yield, "that alone will drive a pretty competitive return," Kirby said.

That means that Florida voters like Trump would lose their voting rights only if the state where they are convicted would disenfranchise them for the crime, too. New York prohibits those serving time behind bars for felony convictions from voting, and voting rights are restored as soon as the individual leaves prison. Those convicted of felonies who do not go to prison never lose their voting rights. In the event of Trump losing his voting rights in Florida, there would also be avenues for him to regain them. CNN —Two women have accused NFL kicker Brandon McManus of sexually assaulting them while he was on a team flight to London last September for the Jacksonville Jaguars, according to a new lawsuit. The women, identified as Jane Doe 1 and Jane Doe 2 in the lawsuit, worked as flight attendants on the Jaguars’ team-chartered flight on September 28. Both women claim that during meal service on the flight, McManus “grinded” his erect clothed penis against them. McManus also tried to kiss Jane Doe 1 earlier during the flight, according to the lawsuit. McManus, who has since signed a contract to join the Washington Commanders, denies the allegations presented in the lawsuit.

Mario Anzuoni | ReutersOff-price retailers like TJX Companies and Ross are still posting sales gains and taking market share from rivals, but it's not just because consumers are under pressure and hunting for value. TJX and Ross both reported fiscal first quarter earnings last week that came in better than Wall Street expected, even as both companies lapped outsize growth from the prior-year period. Ross, which runs Ross Dress for Less and dd's Discounts, posted an 8% jump in sales, bringing revenue to $4.86 billion, compared to estimates of $4.83 billion, according to LSEG. "That's because they're providing consistent value to the consumer – and that's branded consistent value to the consumer at a discount price," said Roach. The dynamic is a bit different at Ross, which has more exposure to the lower- and middle-income consumer than TJX does and competes more on price, said Siegel.

CNN —Chemical toxins are everywhere — in our water, food, air and soil. Children born to European mothers exposed to four families of chemicals that disrupt the body’s endocrine (hormone) system had elevated levels of metabolic syndrome at ages 6 to 11. Metabolic syndrome can include obesity, elevated blood pressure, and abnormally high cholesterol and insulin resistance, which is a precursor to type 2 diabetes. Metabolic syndrome is typically associated with adult cardiovascular disease, type 2 diabetes and stroke, but the growing epidemic of childhood obesity has seen symptoms appearing in kids at younger and younger ages. Having metabolic syndrome as a child is highly predictive of chronic disease as an adult, experts say.

The company was responding to a civil lawsuit filed against American Airlines claiming the girl, listed as Mary Doe, was “secretly filmed while using the airplane toilet” during an American Airlines flight in January 2023. A former American Airlines flight attendant, Estes Carter Thompson, 37, who federal investigators say secretly recorded several minors while they used the bathroom on different American Airlines flights last year, is also named in the lawsuit filed in Texas. American Airlines initially argued that the girl was at fault and negligent because she used a lavatory “she knew or should have known contained a visible and illuminated recording device.”In response to CNN’s request for comment on Monday’s filing, American Airlines said the filing was made in error by outside counsel retained by the airline’s insurance company. “The included defense is not representative of our airline, and we have directed it be amended this morning,” American Airlines said in a statement Wednesday. “They should never have taken such an outrageous position in the first place.”Llewellyn called American Airlines’ legal strategy “depraved” and “shocking.”“Instead of taking responsibility for this awful event, American Airlines is actually blaming our daughter for being filmed,” the child’s mother said in a statement.

Landing a data analyst job helped me achieve the life I had dreamed ofI started looking at job boards and saw a ton of data analyst positions, with an average starting salary of around $70,000, in 2018. I don't feel that working in Big Tech is worth itWhen people think about working a tech job, many think of Big Tech companies like Tesla and Meta, which offer the highest salaries and have a certain air of prestige. Although they might not be quite as high as Big Tech roles, the salaries at non-tech companies can be super competitive, especially if you focus on non-tech companies in the Fortune 500. When you apply for tech jobs at non-tech companies, you're not competing against people who are trying to be the best in the world. The decision caused a lot of upset because the child wanted to go to the Caribbean just as much as her dad and his relatives wanted her there. Six years on, with the benefit of hindsight, the mom said she could have handled the situation differently.
