In 2017, I was invited to Temptation Cancún, an adults-only resort with tops-optional areas, with a group of journalists. Since then, I've made it a point to visit as many sex-positive, clothing-optional resorts as possible. There's also a general refrain among regulars at clothing-optional resorts: "No one knows you, and no one cares." The food is pretty good, tooPeople may not visit clothing-optional resorts for the food, but I've had some great meals over the years. But even if you're not traveling with a partner, don't sleep on the spas at clothing-optional resorts.

CNN —The US State Department on Friday posted a travel advisory update urging Americans to “exercise increased caution” in the Bahamas, citing crime. The State Department said Tuesday that the advisory level did not change in its January 26 update. In the travel advisory updated two days later, the State Department again urges travelers not to resist any robbery attempts and cautions against opening doors to strangers. The Bahamas isn’t the only Caribbean destination with an updated travel alert. Sexual assaults occur frequently, including at all-inclusive resorts,” the State Department advisory for Jamaica reads.

Opening statements are scheduled in Brooklyn federal court for the murder trial of Karl Jordan Jr. and Ronald Washington, who prosecutors say killed the 37-year-old Jay over a drug deal in 2002. Run-DMC espoused an anti-drug stance in lyrics and PSAs, but prosecutors allege Jay became involved in trafficking cocaine in the mid 1990s. Prior to his murder, they say he had acquired 10 kilograms (22 pounds) of the drug, which Washington, Jordan and others were going to distribute in Maryland. Prosecutors say witnesses have now identified both Washington, 59, and Jordan, 40, as the assailants. They say Jordan, then 18, was at his pregnant girlfriend’s home at the time of the murder and witnesses can place him there.

Nairobi, Kenya CNN —A judge in Kenya has barred the East African nation from deploying 1,000 police officers to Haiti to lead a UN-backed multinational force to restore security in the Caribbean nation. High Court judge Chacha Mwita ruled on Friday that President William Ruto and his National Security Council do not have the authority to send police officers to Haiti or any other country under Kenyan law. But Kenyan politician Ekuru Aukot led a legal challenge to the planned in deployment in court, terming it unconstitutional. “There’s no reciprocal arrangement between Kenya and Haiti and there can be no legitimate deployment of police officers to Haiti,” Judge Mwita said when he read his ruling in Nairobi. Gang violence rose by more than 100% in Haiti last year with over 8000 victims documented, according to UN data.

But on Monday, Mr. Banks said there had been “many rumors and misinformation” about what happened. “Violence, hate and disorder have no place in our schools,” Mr. Banks, who himself attended Hillcrest in the 1970s, said at a news conference. “They feel a kindred spirit with the folks of the Palestinian community,” Mr. Banks said, adding that the “notion that these kids are radicalized” was irresponsible. On Monday, Mr. Banks and other city leaders attempted to quell the mounting online backlash against students at the school. Some Hillcrest students had openly discussed their plans in the lead-up to Nov. 20, the two teachers said.

British banks backed large parts of the U.S. slavery economy, and British factories were the world’s largest customers for the cotton produced by plantations in southern U.S. states. In 1663, it was granted a monopoly by King Charles II for the British slavery trade. In 1794, Eli Whitney patented the cotton gin, a machine that would transform the U.S. slavery economy. Mill owners including the Arkwrights, one of the richest families in the industry, were Smith family clients. Two British travel writers visited Farm Pen in 1837, when the land was still in Smith family hands.

Grace Wales Bonner’s approach to fashion can sometimes feel more like that of an academic rather than a designer. Her collections for Wales Bonner, the brand she started in 2015, are informed by dazzlingly intensive research spanning critical theory, music, literature, history and mysticism. Her clever embrace of so many perspectives and personalities, and her proudly Afro-Atlantic approach to fashion, has made Ms. Wales Bonner, 33, an increasingly influential figure in field. This year, she began showing her collections in Paris, the creative and commercial epicenter of luxury fashion. But Ms. Wales Bonner is also a polymath with artistic ambitions outside fashion.

The promise and risks of deep-sea mining

The promise and risks of deep-sea mining A vast treasure of critical minerals lies on the ocean floor. All of these factors make deep-sea mining more appealing, supporters say. Environmentalists, however, say it’s a false dichotomy, as land mining will continue whether or not deep-sea mining is allowed. Any country can allow deep-sea mining in its territorial waters, and Norway, Japan and the Cook Islands are close to allowing it. For now, the ISA's members are hotly debating the best standards for deep-sea mining.

Extreme heat fueled destructive rainfall because a warmer atmosphere holds more water vapor, which lets storms release more precipitation. Storm Daniel became Africa’s deadliest storm with an estimated death toll that ranges between 4,000 and 11,000, according to officials and aid agencies. In India, 1.2 billion people, or 86% of the population, experienced at least 30 days of elevated temperatures, made at least three times more likely by climate change. One of every 200 people in Canada evacuated their home due to wildfires, which burn longer and more intensely after long periods of heat dry out the land. On average, Jamaica experienced high temperatures made four times more likely by climate change during the last 12 months, making it the country where climate change was most powerfully at work.

High-tide floods are not caused by the weather but by the twice monthly alignment of the Earth, sun and moon. But as climate change causes sea levels to rise, high tide floods — sometimes called nuisance floods or sunny-day floods because they can happen on clear days — are likely to inundate more coastal neighborhoods across the five boroughs. By 2050, Lower Manhattan could see 85 days of high-tide flooding annually, a fivefold increase. By the end of this century, 600,000 city residents could be affected by regular tidal flooding, according to the New York City Comptroller’s office. “Tidal flooding is a pretty significant existential climate threat,” said Louise Yeung, the chief climate officer for the comptroller’s office.
