A ransomware attack against a supply chain manager has snarled payroll and scheduling services for prominent international companies, including Starbucks and one of Britain’s largest grocery store chains. Blue Yonder is an Arizona-based company that provides software for thousands of companies to manage their supply chains from planning to fulfillment and delivery. Last week, the company “experienced disruptions to its managed services hosted environment, which was determined to be the result of a ransomware incident,” Blue Yonder said in a statement. Blue Yonder did not immediately respond to a request for comment. The company has not detailed which of its clients or services have been impacted by the attack.

CNN —The Maldives, with its sprawling white sand beaches and dazzling coral reefs, is one of the world’s most expensive holiday destinations. Now, though, this Indian Ocean archipelago nation has just increased the price it costs to leave. The departure tax is broken down per passenger based on the class of service they’re using to fly out of the Maldives. Located off the coast of India, the Maldives has a population of about 525,000 across more than 1,000 islands and atolls. Geography makes the Maldives an easy sell for high-end brands, as hotels and resorts can easily have their own private island.

When COP29 President Mukhtar Babayev stepped to the podium at the closing meeting of the Baku climate summit on Sunday morning, hoping to clinch a hard-fought agreement on global climate finance, he carried with him two speeches. Expectations for a deal were depressed by worries of a looming U.S. withdrawal from global climate cooperation, geopolitical turmoil, and a rise of isolationist politics that had shunted climate change off much of the world’s top priorities list. An activist holds a globe balloon during a protest at the COP29 United Nations climate change conference, in Baku, Azerbaijan, on Nov. 21. That made getting a bigger climate finance number hard, observers to the talks said. “Even maintaining climate finance at current levels in the current political environment is a huge fight,” said Joe Thwaites, senior advocate on international climate finance at the Natural Resources Defense Council, an environmental group.

EU challenges Chinese brandy tariffs at WTO

The EU Commission said on Monday it had formally brought the provisional anti-dumping measures imposed by China on imports of EU brandy to the World Trade Organization, the latest development amid trade tensions between the two blocs. France's trade ministry said last month it would work with the European Commission to challenge Beijing's tariffs, which came after the European Union voted for duties on Chinese-made electric vehicles. China's commerce ministry said it had received an EU consultation request and would handle the matter according to WTO rules. France, whose producers including LVMH , Remy Cointreau and PernodRicard , export huge amounts of spirits to the Asian country, was seen as the main targets of the brandy tariffs following Paris's outspoken support of the Commission's efforts to protect the domestic EV market. French brandy shipments to China reached $1.7 billion last year and made up 99% of China's imports of the drink.
