Eva Hesse, the German American artist, wanted her work to look “ucky,” and accordingly, many of her sculptures can make your skin crawl. They behave like skin themselves: irregular in texture, their craggy folds suggesting, unnervingly, something alive. Hesse, a post-Minimalist of the 1960s (she died in 1970), dismantled the ideological scaffolding holding up what was considered art, often by reimagining industrial, non-art materials. They spread across the floor and crept up walls, unruly and impolite, like little else art had seen before. They’re given ample breathing room across the gallery’s ground floor, cool and low-lit, which gives a revenant, sepulchral flavor.

AdvertisementBCRED, the firm's first credit fund for individual investors, raised $3.4 billion in this quarter, more than the $1.4 billion raised by BXPE and the $990 million raised by BREIT. AdvertisementSchwarzman combined his analysis of BREIT's success with a rosier picture of the larger macro environment in real estate. Since calling the bottom of the real estate market at the beginning of the year, Blackstone's confidence that inflation is receding has continued to increase, leading to more deployment of capital into real estate. It's also providing more possibilities to exit and realize returns on its real estate assets. The firm, which is deploying nearly $15 billion into real estate this year, according to Gray, sees sunny days ahead.

How to trade Netflix using options ahead of earnings

Netflix earnings are out after the bell Thursday. Breaking down Netflix fundamentals Netflix faces much more competition in the streaming industry than it did a few years ago. These concerns were valid, given that Netflix had accumulated over $10 billion in negative cash flow in the decade leading up to the pandemic through December 2019. Over the four fiscal years from 2020 to 2023, Netflix reported over $10 billion in free cash flow, reversing the negative cash flow of the previous decade. These calls, 8% out of the money, traded for $9 each, representing just under 1.4% of the current stock price.

The past few years have solidified single-family rental homes as genuine moneymaking enterprises, not just ho-hum nest eggs. Related storiesWhen everyone was scrambling for their piece of the suburbs during the pandemic, mom-and-pop landlords pounced, using these newfound tools to collect more cash. The company, which estimates only one-fourth of single-family-rental landlords use professional management services, now manages more than 28,000 rentals on behalf of small landlords. As the Wall Street ethos trickles down to small rental owners, it'll be harder and harder to tell them apart. But the gap is narrowing as small rental owners capitalize on the innovations that the institutional class has already embraced.

Instead of getting a young company with a lot of growth ahead, IPO investors are getting stocks that are already near the top of their valuations, Morgan Stanley argues. Experts say that despite barriers to investment — like high net worth standards and regulatory scrutiny — the shift to private markets is hard to stop. Deepwater offers venture capital funds that provide access to private market companies at early stages. To be sure, novice investors face hurdles exploring private markets, including steep fees and the lack of a public exchange investment vehicle. He added that public markets are still ripe with opportunity and shouldn't be ignored for the sake of private market investing.

Some of this stems from the belief that AI benefits workers with greater task-based responsibilities versus the broader job responsibilities of higher-level workers (with many experts saying AI is nearly at the level of a good intern). Still, 30% of senior-level employees fear they'll be fired for lacking AI skills, according to a recent report from online tutoring company Preply. Experienced employees can master AI insightsDespite the general stereotype that older workers (who often make up the senior-level echelon) have a harder time adapting to new technology, Preston recognizes that these are the workers for whom AI has unique advantages. "It would be easy to write off older workers and say this is just going to be too hard for them, they're not going to adapt," Preston said. "Let's lean into the value of AI to help leverage the jobs of the future for older workers, rather than assuming that for some reason, it's going to leave them behind."

Proxy advisory firm Glass Lewis on Thursday recommended that shareholders of Masimo , the medical technology firm best known for its Apple Watch patent litigation, elect dissident Politan's two nominees, Bill Jellison and Darlene Solomon. Glass Lewis tacitly endorsed that criticism in its report, writing that the company displayed "de minimus responsibility" and "poor governance." "We've had a tremendous amount of interest [from private equity firms], and we believe this could make sense for us in a limited fashion, probably no more than 10% of a team. The National Football League is considering allowing minority private equity ownership for its 32 teams of up to 10%, Commissioner Roger Goodell said in an exclusive CNBC interview Thursday. "I think it may be leading to some rethink into the consideration of letting private equity, as an example, or institutional investors into the NFL." Private equity incentives around reaching investment targets and exit thresholds could alter the motivations for ownership in ways that make the bigger sports leagues uncomfortable. Private equity firms, tasked with finding investment vehicles to make returns on their assets under management, may be better suited to minority ownership.

A new report from Moody's on Wednesday warns that generative AI and deepfakes are among the election integrity issues that could present a risk to U.S. institutional credibility. In a letter to Rosenworcel, it encouraged the FCC to delay its decision until after the elections because its changes would not be mandatory across digital political ads. Some social media platforms have already self-adopted some sort of AI disclosure ahead of regulations. Google requires all political ads with modified content that "inauthentically depicts real or realistic-looking people or events" to have disclosures, but doesn't require AI disclosures on all political ads. Thirteen states have laws on election interference and deepfakes, eight of which were enacted since January.

President Biden’s decision to withdraw was probably a foregone conclusion a week ago. These are people whose political identity was formed in the same political context as Biden’s. This election is a referendum on the kind of politics that made Biden: Can the system still be trusted to work? In Biden’s case, he does not look like a candidate who could counter the threats Trump and the Republicans pose to this country. Vice President Kamala Harris is the only choice to replace him.

However, investors were also content to ramp up credit risk, directing more than $1.6 billion into ETFs with underlying bank loans and collateralized loan obligations, or CLOs, State Street found. Big institutional investors can purchase bank loans — which lending institutions make to companies — and benefit from the loans' floating coupon rate. CLOs are similar to bank loans: These are pools of floating rate loans made to businesses, which can be non-investment grade. Bank loans and CLOs tend to have less price sensitivity to changes in rates, meaning they are short duration.
