New York CNN —Listen up, corporate boards: If you’re looking for the biggest trend in leadership this fall, look no further. Corporate America’s hottest CEO pick is a classic model — the Middle Aged White Guy. Just 52 businesses in the 2024 Fortune 500 ranking were run by women, holding flat from the year before. Obviously, White Guy CEO never went out of fashion — women have rarely represented more than 10% of Fortune 500 companies. But a rash of recent leadership shakeups illustrates the enduring power of the White Guy as a kind of capsule wardrobe for corporate leadership.

As part of his economic pitch to voters, Trump has floated a sweeping tax overhaul, including a slate of income tax breaks. So far, the Republican presidential nominee has officially proposed eliminating income tax on tips and Social Security benefits, along with overtime pay. This total excludes the many more people who would be exempt from part of their income taxes if Trump executed his proposed elimination of taxes on overtime pay. It didn't have an income tax," Trump said at a sit-down with voters in New York on Friday for "Fox & Friends." The Harris campaign did not immediately respond to CNBC's request for comment about Trump's proposed tax plans.

The U.S. presidential election is fast approaching, but it may not have as much an impact on markets as people may think, some investors say. History suggests the strong performance bodes well for a post-election pop into year's end. When Trump was elected in the 2016 presidential election, investors expected energy would perform well — but the subsequent two years proved unfavorable for the sector. During the 2000 election, volatility lasted for more than 30 days, through December. "We encourage investors to keep their long-term objectives in mind during periods of uncertainty and position for election related volatility," Guerra wrote.

Creator-economy startup Jellysmack is reorganizing and cutting some staff, Business Insider is exclusively reporting. "Jellysmack is making organizational adjustments to better align resources with key areas of growth," a representative told BI in an email. While we are scaling back certain operations in our Creator Program on Meta due to the opacity of their new monetization model, we remain dedicated to supporting our key creator partners and ensuring they continue to benefit from our platform." The company said in early 2022 that it would set aside $500 million for a program called JellyFi to license creator catalogs . Despite Jellysmack's expansion into new areas of the creator economy, its business had been increasingly troubled, insiders told BI earlier this year.

WASHINGTON — With just two weeks left in the 2024 campaign, there currently are no plans for Vice President Kamala Harris to appear on the trail with President Joe Biden before Election Day, according to three Harris campaign officials and three White House officials. Biden last appeared with Harris at a campaign event nearly seven weeks ago, on Labor Day in early September. That’s a contrast to former President Obama, who has headlined a series of Harris campaign events, and former President Bill Clinton who has also been on the trail for the vice president. First lady Jill Biden has headlined multiple events for the Harris campaign as well and is set to hit the trail for her again on Wednesday in Nevada. White House and campaign officials say the president understands the strategy behind his downsized role in the campaign, even if at times he doesn’t like it.

S & P 500 money is oblivious to stock valuations of any kind and ignorant to upgrades and downgrades. The Lilliputian sellers regularly fail to do damage when matched with the oblivious index money. A 4% 2-year note isn't competitive to the magnet of the S & P 500 and its kin. That's emblematic of what happens with a big buyback without stock-based compensation (something many tech firms use that renders moot the S & P 500 inflows). Because of the way that the S & P 500 money is divvied up, the share base becomes overwhelmingly index-fund based and the index fund shareholders do not sell.

Human life has no price and is not a commodity.”People demonstrate near Italy's Senate this week to oppose the country's new legislation. Francis has shifted the church’s approach on welcoming LGBTQ people, but has maintained a strong line opposing both abortion and surrogacy. The new Italian law does not differentiate between same-sex and heterosexual couples, nor between altruistic or paid surrogacy, but it will disproportionately affect the LGBTQ community, advocates fear. “Law or no law, same-sex families exist and will continue to exist. In the end, on Wednesday, both Harris and Fox News probably got what they wanted. But before the interview, Harris spokesman Ian Sams explained her thinking. If only a few thousand Fox viewers or traditional conservatives swapped sides, it could push some swing states in the vice president’s direction. Still, the risk for Harris is that her display in her first formal Fox interview could alienate some of those voters. It’s taken her several months to arrive at the assurance that she’d strike a strong contrast with Biden’s administration, which she unveiled in the Fox interview.

The report from Freedom House, a US government-funded NGO, found that global internet freedom has declined for the 14th consecutive year. In a record 43 countries, people were physically attacked or killed in retaliation for their online activities, the report found. The Central Asian nation Kyrgyzstan showed the biggest drop in internet freedoms, according to the report, as President Sadyr Japarov ramped up efforts to silence digital media and suppress online organizing. The heightened interest in the WNBA led to the league's most recent media rights deal being valued at $2.2 billion for 11 seasons, CNBC previously reported. The WNBA's media rights deal is negotiated as part of the NBA's agreement. The media rights deal with Unrivaled gives Turner Sports the opportunity to keep basketball on its air if it is not successful in its lawsuit. Egypt and Bangladesh are among 22 countries deemed “safe” by Italy, a designation that prevents their nationals from qualifying for political asylum, with few exceptions. Under the protocol signed between Italy and Albania last year, those sent to Albania must not show signs of torture, illness or vulnerability or be part of nuclear families traveling together. Those brought directly to Italy instead would fall under EU regulations, which involve a lengthy asylum process. If they are denied asylum in Italy, they will then be deported back to their countries of origin at Italy’s expense. WASHINGTON — The Small Business Administration said on Tuesday it has exhausted funds for its disaster loan program following increased demand from Hurricane Helene, with Congress being in recess. “Until Congress appropriates additional funds, the SBA is pausing new loan offers for its direct, low-interest, long-term loans to disaster survivors,” the SBA said in a statement. “However, SBA is encouraging individuals and small businesses to continue to apply for loans given assurances from congressional leaders that additional funding will be provided upon Congress’ return in November.”The devastating Hurricane Helene killed more than 200 people in six U.S. states, nearly half of the victims in North Carolina alone. President Joe Biden has said he believes Congress, whose members are currently in recess, should come back into session to address disaster relief funding needs. Members of the House of Representatives and Senate are not scheduled to return to Washington until after the Nov. 5 election.
