But it’s evidence of one of the central truths of our time, and one that is becoming more and more apparent every day: We have built our world for a climate that no longer exists. But less than two months earlier, a sudden windstorm in the city blacked out electricity for more than a million people. How many blackouts will it take before we realize today’s power grid was built for yesterday’s climate? One clear example: the incredible decline in the cost of renewable power in recent years. In virtually every part of the world, electricity generated by renewable power is cheaper than electricity generated by fossil fuels.

CNN —The White House on Thursday said it would hand out $1.7 billion to help convert closed-down or at-risk auto manufacturing and assembly facilities to make electric and hybrid vehicles. The funding comes as growth in new electric vehicle sales has slowed, even as the Biden administration wants to keep US EV manufacturers competitive with a surging Chinese industry. “This announcement is a hallmark of the Biden administration’s industrial strategy, which is a strategy to bring manufacturing jobs back to America after years of offshoring,” Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm told reporters. The plants also include facilities from vehicle component manufacturing to full vehicle assembly, according to a senior administration official. The move comes as the growth rate of EV sales has slowed even as total EV sales have continued to rise.

He’s going to be a killer rebounder, monster screener and will consistently establish his position even against some of the stronger NBA players. I’m done doubting Edey, even as an NBA player. As an enormous ballhandler with serious touch and incredible vision as a passer, Topić is clearly an NBA player, even if it doesn’t all translate. Shannon is an elite athlete, but the NBA game requires more nuance, especially if he continues to be an inconsistent shooter. However, I also think he’s more than just a floor spacer on offense in spot-up situations and potentially as an off-ball scorer.

Adam Jonas, a well-known auto analyst at the investment bank, said Ford remains his top pick in the auto sector. Now, Jonas said Ford could take the spotlight as the focus within the sector shifts from electric vehicle investment to capital discipline. It comes at a tumultuous time for automakers as they grapple with softer-than-anticipated electric vehicle demand. Given an ongoing "unwind" in the electric vehicle story, he said Ford has the potential to flip the stock performance. Tech and communication services companies have been dominating share buyback activity within the S & P 500 this year, according to Jill Carey Hall, Bank of America's equity and quantitative strategist. Earlier this year, Apple announced a massive $110 billion share buyback program, while Alphabet authorized a $70 billion repurchase . Buyback fans include legendary investor Warren Buffett, as Berkshire Hathaway spent $2.6 billion in the first quarter of 2024 to repurchase shares. And the company has a strong track record of stock buybacks. GM's board authorized a new $6 billion buyback program earlier this month, which follows an accelerated $10 billion plan from November 2023.
