Brands love to tweet with emojis — maybe they think it makes them look down with the kids. The problem is, you can know the language, but still be picking the wrong words, or — in this case — images. Brands' top five, according to this research, were the fire emoji, the finger pointing to the right, a football, a blue heart, and a cocktail. That tracks, as I don't think I've ever seen any of the other emojis typed by a personal account on social media or elsewhere. Why would you pick a blue heart so often that it's in your top 10?

Amid preparing to launch new features, Meta is offering tips to creators on what to post. Despite its early success, Threads needs more content, and therefore, creators, to keep up its momentum. Meta also includes its own "Meta" pun in the email, prompting creators to "Get ~Meta~ About Being On Threads," and post about the platform, per the email. Creators love Threads and Meta, according to Meta. "The content ideas like watch parties and live commentaries are a great way for me as a talent manager to build relationships with brands that are on the platform," the talent manager said.

CNN —Sandwiched between a Jiu-Jitsu video and the Threads announcement, Mark Zuckerberg’s Instagram profile recently featured a casual Independence Day snapshot of him and his family. This prompted social media comments accusing Zuckerberg of hypocrisy, given the constant outcry over his company Meta’s privacy practices. Mark Zuckerberg posted this picture with his family on Instagram on July 4, 2023. A decade ago, a research team and I interviewed more than 100 parents about their social media use. That’s the real privacy problem of social media, and it affects children and adults alike.

Jerusalem CNN —President Mahmoud Abbas, the 87-year-old veteran who has led the Palestinian Authority for nearly two decades, is trending on Palestinian social media – but not in the way he might like. His phrase “Protect us” – “Ehmouna” in Arabic – quickly became a trending topic on social media. The boy, wriggling in the backseat of a car, childishly says “Ehmouna, ehmouna for Allah’s sake” as other people in the car laugh. The Palestinian Authority has not held presidential elections since May 2006 – repeatedly postponing votes – leaving the Palestinian people with few ways other than social media to make their voices heard. Two Palestinians sarcastically attempt to “act as President Abbas requested” in one video.

A recent article on the "Star Wars" films had numerous errors, The Washington Post reported. The story was one of five articles published using Google's Bard and OpenAI's ChatGPT technologies as the outlet pilots new AI initiatives, a representative of Gizmodo told Insider. These will all be designed to complement our journalism and give our editorial teams new tools to serve our audiences." Gizmodo reporters weren't the only ones angered at the flub — readers, too, expressed their dissatisfaction with the AI creation. At the same time, outlets — including Insider — have announced new initiatives to experiment with AI, with editorial procedures in place meant to prevent errors from being published.

Mark Zuckerberg recently posted a family photo with two of his kids' faces covered with emojis. Tech experts say more parents need to follow in his footsteps to protect their childrens' privacy. Posting your kids on social media may even put them at risk for identity theft, one expert told CNN. Presumably a step to protect their privacy, Zuckerberg isn't the only one thinking about how parents' use of social media can impact their children. She says keeping kids' faces off social media is not only essential for their safety, but also for their sense of agency as they grow older.

From zuck/InstagramFor years, celebrities from Kristen Bell and Gigi Hadid to Chris Pratt and Orlando Bloom have been blurring images or using emojis to help protect their kids’ privacy on social media. Zuckerberg, too, had previously posted pictures of the back of his daughters’ heads and their side profiles rather than showing their entire faces. Some parents choose to either restrict how much they share about their kids or limit sharing to less public platforms. Plunkett believes social media companies can do more, such as offering a setting that automatically blurs kids’ faces or prevents any picture with a child from being used for marketing or advertising purposes. For now, however, the onus remains on parents to limit or abstain sharing photos of their kids online.

CNN —There’s nearly a 50-year age gap between the oldest Baby Boomer and the youngest member of Gen Z. As Pew President Michael Dimock put it, a common misconception about Baby Boomers’ past serves as a reminder of a key question we should be asking as we talk about Gen Z today. Cultural critic Louis Menand has pointed out that another important detail often gets overlooked when talking about this chapter in Baby Boomers’ past. And Gen Z may not be as ‘woke’ as you thinkCould our understanding of Gen Z’s politics – frequently described as liberal – also be missing part of the picture? Joe Raedle/Getty Images“In poll after poll, we have found enormous diversity among Gen Z and their views,” she says.

New York CNN —A Canadian farmer owes $82,000 for breach of contract after using a “thumbs-up” emoji in a text. After phone calls with farmers Bob and Chris Achter, SWT drafted a contract for Chris Achter to sell SWT 86 metric tons of flax for $17 a bushel and deliver the flax in November. He said the only difference this time was Achter responded with a “thumbs-up” emoji instead of “ok”, “yup” or “looks good.”According to Achter in the court documents, he confirmed “the thumbs-up emoji simply confirmed that I received the Flax contract. It was not a confirmation that I agreed with the terms of the Flax Contract. In my opinion, when considering all of the circumstances that meant approval of the flax contract and not simply that he had received the contract and was going to think about it.

A Canadian judge ruled that a thumbs-up emoji sent by phone represented a binding legal agreement. The case involved a grain seller replying to a sent contract with a thumbs-up, but then not delivering. The judge said Canada has to be ready to "meet the new challenges" that may arise from emoji usage. Chris Achter responded with a thumbs-up emoji, which Mickleborough interpreted as Achter entering into the contract, according to the legal documents. The company said the thumbs-up emoji only indicated that Achter had received the message, not that he had agreed to the contract, Achter said in an affidavit.

Elon Musk and Mark Zuckerberg remain at each others' throats following the launch of Threads. The squabble has ramped up a notch after Twitter threatened to take Meta to court over Threads. It's getting a bit pitiful for Elon Musk and Mark Zuckerberg as their feud continues to escalate, following the launch of Threads. In Musk's case, Twitter CEO Linda Yaccarino should bring a level-headedness that her colleague is clearly lacking. These include hashtags, a "following" feed, and a messaging function, which means Threads is still a skeletal project.

Stanton, Kentucky CNN —All Heather and Nick Maberry wanted to do was hold their dead baby, but strict Kentucky abortion laws meant they couldn’t. They were “furious” that the laws meant they never got to kiss or cuddle their daughter, Willow Rose, or tell her goodbye, Heather said. The Maberrys wanted to terminate the pregnancy, but a near-complete abortion ban in their state doesn’t have exceptions for birth defects – even severe ones like anencephaly. CNN reached out to three sponsors of Kentucky abortion laws to ask why fatal fetal anomalies aren’t an exception to the current laws. While she was willing to take that risk for a live baby, Willow was not going to live.

Mark Zuckerberg bills Threads as a space for kindness — but he's not above using it to ding Elon Musk. Threads arrives as Twitter has another disastrous week. As the Meta chief put it on the new Threads app, the vision is "to create an open and friendly public space for conversation" for 1 billion-plus people. It's a highly calculated move to release a Twitter clone in a week of Twitter chaos. Threads can only be so friendly then if its growth, for now, comes from the conflagration at Twitter.

Mark Zuckerberg shared a family photo with his daughters' faces hidden by emojis. Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg provoked accusations of hypocrisy from users on his platforms by censoring his childrens' faces in a family photo. It is a common practice among parents to obscure the faces of their children in social media posts for privacy reasons. On Instagram, one user got 2,800 likes commenting under Zuckerberg's post: "Even Zuck doesn't trust his platforms to put his kids faces up." Much of the ire focused on accusing Zuckerberg of hypocrisy, since Meta has been embroiled in controversies relating to its users' data.

Heart-Shape Gems Get Lots of Love

From heart emojis to hands held to form a heart, heart motifs abound at the moment, and the jewelry world has gotten the memo: heart-shape stones seem to be everywhere. The large heart-shape diamond now worn by Lauren Sánchez — reportedly estimated at 25 to 30 carats and the ring that Jeff Bezos used to propose marriage, made headlines recently during the couple’s cruise around the Mediterranean. It had some competition in May at the Cannes Film Festival, where Natalie Portman honored emerging talent at the Trophée Chopard event in a blue Dior gown that matched her Chopard necklace of 25 sapphire hearts, totaling 119.95 carats, with each one trimmed in diamonds. Just days later, Gigi Hadid was photographed on the red carpet in a Messika Toi & Moi ring that juxtaposed two sparkling hearts: a 7.06-carat pink diamond and a 16.18-carat yellow diamond, each accentuated with white diamonds.

Men are using AI tools like ChatGPT to improve their dating lives, an Attractiontruth study found. Some men said they used AI to generate their bios and craft personalized messages to their matches. Online dating can be tough, but AI might be making it a little bit easier, a new study suggests. Researchers at Attractiontruth, an AI dating coach, surveyed 1,371 men across the sexuality spectrum to see if they are using AI to enhance their dating profiles. In February, OkCupid used ChatGPT to generate matching-questions — like "Are you more of an introvert or extrovert" — that were later added to the platform, according to a company blog post.
