The move could drive oil prices up further, creating a headache for Harris' campaign. If Israel did strike Iran's oil, it would likely have two main targets. Then, on Thursday, he said the US and Israel were discussing whether the US would support Israel striking Iran's oil facilities. Biden has indicated there are conversations between the US and Israel about whether Iran's oil facilities are a legitimate retaliatory strike option. Back in September, global oil prices fell to the lowest level in almost three years, and the US has seen a historic year of oil production.

The government’s draft budget released Monday proposes spending just under 13.5 trillion rubles (over $145 billion) on national defense. The Ukraine war is Europe’s biggest conflict since World War II and has drained the resources of both sides, with Ukraine getting billions of dollars in help from its Western allies. Russian President Vladimir Putin is also looking at how to sustain his war effort as military spending has placed a huge strain on the Russian economy. Ukraine, too, has developed a new generation of drones for the battlefield and for long-range strikes deep inside Russia. Ukraine has used long-range drones to strike multiple ammunition depots inside Russia this month. AdvertisementRussia maintains an extensive air-defense network, but it hasn't been able to stop Ukraine from using its long-range drones to strike deep, according to a new Western intelligence update. Ukraine said its long-range drones managed to bypass Russia's air defenses and strike an ammunition depot in the Volgograd region over the weekend, marking Kyiv's latest attack. Russia's inability to repel long-range Ukrainian attacks is nothing new, though. Kyiv has relied heavily on locally produced drones to wage this campaign because it is restricted from using Western-provided missiles to strike Russian territory.

And the US has incessantly pushed for a Gaza ceasefire that neither Netanyahu nor Hamas seems to want. For instance, the US and its allies helped repel a massive Iranian missile and drone attack against Israel in April. It has also killed other senior members of the two groups in strikes in Syria, Lebanon, Iran and in Gaza. And pro-Trump Republicans are goading him to go further — at least partly to weaken Biden and his chosen successor, Harris. This is just one of many reasons why Netanyahu is incentivized to expand his war no matter how powerless it makes America look.
