With the stock market deeply oversold this week, we put cash to work by picking stocks across a range of sectors including energy, technology and materials. With the market oversold, per the S & P 500 Short Range Oscillator , our investment discipline called for us to search for any dislocations within the portfolio. Tech stocks remained under pressure Tuesday afternoon, giving us an opportunity to buy 7 shares of Broadcom and lower our cost basis. But stocks returned to the red Thursday, and the market remained firmly in oversold territory. However, the market reversed course in midday trading, with all three major U.S. stock benchmarks trading sharply higher.

We're talking about this year's rise in bond yields, oil prices and the dollar — all at the time same. Nevertheless, bond yields, oil prices and the dollar always have far-reaching implications for the stock market. "The higher yields, that's what's been pressuring the equity market," Wharton School professor Jeremy Siegel said Monday on CNBC. In early September, the two countries announced their supply cuts would extend through year-end, a surprise decision that added upward pressure on oil prices. The picture is less clear-cut when considering the impact higher oil prices can have on consumers and non-energy companies.

We're be buying 200 shares of Coterra Energy (CTRA) at roughly $26.79 each. Following Monday's trade, Jim Cramer's Charitable Trust will own 1,750 shares of CTRA, increasing its weighting in the portfolio to 1.7% from 1.5%. We also do not believe shares are adequately reflecting the rise in natural gas prices over the past week and a half. Remember, Coterra's business is about 50-50 nat gas and oil . It's worth noting that CTRA stock was moving lower with nat gas and oil prices on Monday.

After the September meeting pause last week, the target range for the fed funds rate remained at 5.25% to 5.50%. First, I don't know a soul besides me who agrees with that 20-year versus fed funds rate yield prognosis. They think the fed funds rate will come down or the 20-year yield is already extended. Second, I don't know anyone else who believes the economy is so strong that the Fed is correct to keep on an anti-inflation course. I don't think so.

When looking for a stock that pays a higher dividend than Treasury yields, investors don't have too many choices these days. Dividend stocks, on the other hand, are getting harder to find as companies hold on to their cash amid concerns about the economy. To find stocks that pay dividends higher than the 10-year Treasury yield, CNBC used the new CNBC Pro Stock Screener tool to search for names with yields higher than 4.5%. Pioneer Natural Resources has the highest dividend yield at 7.2%, as well as a debt-to-equity ratio of 24.2%. Lastly, Best Buy has a 5.2% dividend yield and 40.9% debt-to-equity ratio.

Here's a rapid-fire update on all stocks in Jim Cramer's Charitable Trust, the portfolio we use for the CNBC Investing Club. But for investors who haven't bought into its steep pullback, it's reasonable to buy some shares at current levels around $146.50 each. Unless you believe inflation is going to keep raging, making Microsoft's price-to-earnings multiple too high, then this stock is a buy. With the market on edge ahead of the Federal Reserve's decision on interest rates, here's a way to play it safe. In anticipation of the Fed's decision, stocks are losing their momentum this week while oil prices surge and consumer sentiment sours. These stocks have a dividend yield of greater than 3% and are still in the green this year, making them a strong hedge against potential near-term volatility. Oil and natural gas producer Coterra Energy has the highest dividend yield of the list and has popped 12% so far this year. The company also offers a dividend yield of 3.83%.

The rise in oil prices largely boils down to a mismatch between supply and demand. The current backdrop may keep oil prices supported through the fall, according to the U.S. Energy Information Administration's short-term outlook published Tuesday . If higher oil prices – and by extension fuel prices – are sustained in the coming months, the investment implications may be somewhat mixed. For much of this year, the downward trend in oil prices contributed to lower year-over-year inflation readings . Shares of Pioneer "should be much higher," he said, noting the potential for more robust capital returns due to higher oil prices.

Eli Lilly not only reported a stellar second quarter, management was able to raise its full-year sales and adjusted earnings outlook as well. Though revenues were a tad short, earnings results were better than expected on a both a HAAP and adjusted basis. Constellation Brands' (STZ) sales and earnings results outpaced expectations. DuPont (DD) reported a good quarter prior to us initiating a position in the name. But the slight comparable-sales miss in North America prompted questions about the company's ability to hit its long-term targets of 10% to 12% revenue growth and 15% to 20% earnings growth.

The chart below is meant to provide a high level view of the revenue exposure each of the 35 companies in our portfolio has to the world's second-largest economy. First, a couple caveats: Our energy exploration and production stocks Coterra Energy (CTRA) and Pioneer Natural Resources (PXD) screen as having zero revenue exposure outside of the United States. Nvidia (NVDA) is another stock where the direct revenue exposure can be misleading. That makes the 60% revenue exposure to the Asia-Pacific region more concerning, even as mainland China realized organic sales growth during the quarter. As a result, total sales, services sales and wearables, home and accessories sales all set June quarter records in Greater China.
