As a global leader in digital payments, Visa has 4.2 billion credit and payment cards in circulation across more than 200 countries. Through its advanced transaction processing network, VisaNet, the company facilitates payment authorization, clearing, and settlement, and it is one of the most remarkable and consistent growth stories around — along with fellow payment processing company Mastercard. The following chart illustrates its remarkably consistent growth since the pandemic plunge (which naturally suspended considerable economic activity). While a 30 P/E is higher than the market's, the S & P trades closer to 26 times earnings; Visa should trade at a premium. The ability for consumer spending growth to continue apace is limited, so presumably, topline growth will slow somewhat.

Just ignore the word ‘tariff’ — it’s a tax
  + stars: | 2024-10-16 | by ( Allison Morrow | ) edition.cnn.com   time to read: +6 min
Especially when you hear words like “tariffs.”But, given the economy’s central importance in the 2024 race, it’s worth hammering on an Econ 101 fact: Tariffs are a tax on Americans. Very simply: When the US government decides to put a tariff (read: tax) on, say, Chinese goods, the actual money going to the US Treasury comes from the American company doing the importing. “To me, the most beautiful word in the dictionary is tariff,” Trump said at one point. But it’s important to judge Trump’s first-term trade policies and the Biden-Harris approach against context of the unprecedented tariff wave Trump is planning if he gets to Round Two. Bottom line: Tariffs might be a beautiful word to Trump’s ear, but he’s telling a fictional story about what they do in practice.

Organic sales, which exclude Covid testing, were up 8.2% from the year-ago period. Bottom line In its third quarter, Abbott Labs demonstrated why we wanted to stick with the stock in the face of legal battles that emerged earlier this year and spooked investors. The creator and marketing company Triller is finally trading on the Nasdaq under the ticker ILLR. The company went public via a reverse merger with a Hong Kong-based company called AGBA. A reverse merger occurs when a private company goes public by acquiring a publicly listed company. That didn't come to fruition, and in December 2021, the company announced plans to complete a reverse merger with a company called Seachange International. The S & P 500 continues to make new highs, and volatility continues to decline. First, the S & P 500 has logged just two absolute 1% moves since Sept. 19, which is nearly a month's worth of trading. In fact, 114 S & P 500 stocks made new 52-week highs on Tuesday, which was the first time we've had over 100 since 7/16/24. With the day's opening and close both being higher and lower than the prior session's, this created a bearish engulfing pattern. The bottom line is that the S & P 500 and dozens of its holdings have built up substantial cushions by strongly coming back from the August lows.

The Trump trade in markets weakened after the mid-September debate between Kamala Harris and Trump, as Harris was largely viewed as the winner of their one-and-only meeting. Here's what's moving in markets that suggest the Trump trade is back on as investors bet on a victory for the former president.

The AI trade is powering ahead as the markets are seeing a rotation back into the semiconductor, hardware and software companies that are driving the revolution. One industrial company on my radar — that I don't yet have a position in — is Vertiv (VRT) . The company provides liquid cooling systems for data centers powering AI. I know it's a wide zone, but consider the percentage gain this stock has experienced in the past 2 years. Bitcoin could hit a fresh all-time high ahead of the presidential election, Standard Chartered says. Standard Chartered estimates bitcoin could hit $73,800 in the next few weeks. In new research, head of digital asset research Geoff Kendrick estimated that the token could hit $73,800 before November's US presidential election, a 12% gain from current levels. Second, SAB 121 exemptions go hand-in-hand with MicroStrategy's announced plan to become a "bitcoin bank," offering bitcoin capital market instruments down the road. In Kendrick's mind, the outcome of the presidential election is secondary to these bullish forces, with both Trump and Harris victories boding well for the token.

After the Eagles’ 20-16 win over the Browns, star right tackle Lane Johnson eloquently described the Eagles’ offense in a way only he could get away with. “That’s what it f—ing feels like.”It’s not like the Eagles were awful on offense in their Week 6 win over the Browns. For an offense that’s loaded with star power, that’s just not consistent enough. “We have a lot of ability, a lot of talent and we are making games more competitive than they need to be. Horror fans are calling the main character, Art the Clown, a new icon for the genre. Fans say the success of "Terrifier 3" has cemented its lead character, the demonic, mute serial killer Art the Clown, as a horror icon. Now, fans have hailed Art as a modern horror icon akin to other slasher villains such as Norman Bates, Leatherface, Michael Myers, and Freddy Krueger. My horror hot take:Art the Clown is the first true horror icon to emerge thus far this century (Pennywise was already an icon under Tim Curry, and the “Saw” films have gone on without Jigsaw). He’s the horror icon we need right now.

Positioning in financial stocks is light relative to other sectors, Morgan Stanley says. AdvertisementInvestors are lingering in defensive trades that don't take advantage of the economy's strength, Morgan Stanley said, highlighting opportunities in underinvested sectors. The firm — which just last week upgraded cyclical stocks to "overweight" relative to defensives — described the financials group as particularly attractive. Morgan Stanley said net exposure to financials was in the bottom 15th percentile of a historical data series that goes back to 2010. Morgan Stanley noted that this weakness lowered earnings-season expectations for investors, making it easier for major lenders to outperform forecasts.

Landau used to be pro-office but says remote working has helped his employees' work-life balance. AdvertisementThe world is my oyster for recruitmentAs the company grew, I became increasingly enamored with remote work. Most Park My Fleet employees are US-based, but we have tech teams in Costa Rica and Israel. I don't think there's anything wrong with in-person office work; it makes sense in certain environments. As an employee who joined a company as a remote worker, it would feel like a bait-and-switch move if the CEO then decided to change the remote work policy.

Late Friday, Jon Holden, president of the striking workers' union, IAM District 751, pushed for a return to negotiations.
