Living alone as a college student taught me how to be independent and build community. However, when the pandemic moved classes online in the middle of my freshman year, I moved back in with my parents to attend a local community college. But I'm now moving in with a roommate for my last year of collegeI loved living alone, but it isn't for everyone. I had to make a tough decision: Do I want to spend my last year in college working harder than ever to pay rent? In two months, I'm moving into an apartment with my friend that is closer to campus and almost $200 less in rent.

Jeff Landry confirmed his support on Tuesday of restarting the tradition of bringing Louisiana State University’s live tiger mascot onto the football field ahead of home games. For years, the school’s live mascot would ride through the stadium in a travel trailer “topped by the LSU cheerleaders” before home games, based on information about the mascot on the LSU Athletics’ webpage. Following the death of the school’s tiger, Mike VI, in 2016, LSU announced that future Mike the Tigers would no longer be brought onto the field. California is banning legacy admissions at private colleges and universities, ensuring that some of the country’s most selective schools will not favor applicants with familial or monetary connections to the schools. Gavin Newsom on Monday signed AB 1780 into law, prohibiting legacy and donor preferences in admissions at private, nonprofit institutions. Schools including Stanford University, the University of Southern California and Santa Clara University will now join the California State University system and other public institutions in the state that have long-banned legacy preferences. This is about making sure we’re leveling the playing field.”The law will affect schools with among the highest rates of legacy admissions — Stanford, USC and Santa Clara. No, the tech that’s going to save humanity will be powered by the tech that very nearly destroyed it. The tech industry’s solution, for now, is nuclear energy, which is more stable than wind or solar and is virtually carbon-emission-free. Amazon is working on putting a data center campus right on the site of a Talen Energy nuclear power plant in Northeast Pennsylvania. And while AI doomer predictions often get brushed off as alarmist forecasts, you can’t as readily dismiss the folks who are concerned about nuclear energy. Bottom line: There’s no AI future without a serious uptick in our power supply, which makes the expansion of nuclear power practically unavoidable.

PHILADELPHIA — The University of Pennsylvania law school says it is imposing a one-year suspension at half-pay and other sanctions along with a public reprimand on a tenured professor over her comments about race in recent years. The university said Professor Amy Wax — who has questioned the academic performance of Black students, invited a white nationalist to speak to her class and suggested the country would be better off with less Asian immigration — will also lose her named chair and summer pay in perpetuity and must note in public appearances that she speaks for herself, not as a university or law school member. The suspension is to begin in the 2025-2026 academic year. The university has not, however, fired her or stripped her of tenure. Wax’s lawyer, David Shapiro, told the campus newspaper, the Daily Pennsylvanian, in November that officials targeted Wax over her public comments and some elements of her class on conservative thought, including having a white nationalist figure speak.

Although Tarr’s ambition may have been to meet women, the success of Operation Match ironically kept him too busy to date. Which Battleground State Voters Could Sway the Election? It says that in order for Democrats to win, Black voters must make up 30 percent of all voters and at least 30 percent of white voters must vote Democratic. Black voters, who cast nearly a third of the ballots in 2020, overwhelmingly favored Mr. Biden — by almost 90 percent. That’s because educational attainment divides mostly white voters, and many of Nevada’s less-educated voters are not white. Even so, that wasn’t enough for him to overcome the coalition of white voters with a college degree and voters of color who delivered Mr. Biden a victory.
