Sixteen years ago, Warren Buffett's Berkshire Hathaway unveiled a $230 million investment in Chinese electric vehicle startup BYD , sparking questions about the conglomerate's unusual foray into early-stage technology. Lately, Berkshire has been selling down the position, ringing the register after earning billions of dollars during its hyper-growth phase. Berkshire trimmed its BYD stake to 5.99% as of June 19 from 7% just a few days earlier , according to a Hong Kong Stock Exchange filing . It has since become the top car brand in China, as well as a major producer of EV batteries. "From a standing start at zero and with very little capital, he rapidly was able to create the best-selling single model in China," Munger said.

Luckily his close friends, Microsoft cofounder Bill Gates and his then-wife Melinda, went to great lengths to ensure he wouldn't starve. "To his delight he was served course after course of his french fries —even for dessert," Schroeder reported. When they stopped at restaurants for lunch and dinner, Buffett was again served burgers and fries while the others chowed down on Chinese food. During a scenic private cruise, Buffett, Gates, and Gates' dad played bridge. "Buffett towed the Gateses straight to McDonald's to buy hamburgers in the middle of the night," Schroeder wrote.

Charlie Munger wasn't just an acclaimed investor, one of the masterminds behind Berkshire Hathaway's decades of financial success. He also gave great life advice, according to billionaire philanthropist Melinda French Gates. French Gates, 59, shared her favorite lesson of Munger's during a recent commencement speech at Stanford University. "As a society, we aren't always set up to feel responsibility for the person who's next to us or the person who's on the other side of a divide or a debate," French Gates added. Similarly, French Gates urged her audience to make "strong, reciprocal bonds with other people, even if they disagree on issues big or small."

London CNN —Nvidia, Nvidia, Nvidia. Nvidia’s stock bounced back Tuesday, yet investors have been reminded of a potentially bubble-bursting truth: You can fly too close to the sun. For context, it took Warren Buffett about 60 years to build Berkshire Hathaway into a nearly trillion dollar company. But typical volatility can have seismic repercussions when it comes to a stock as all-consuming as Nvidia. Analysts at The Carlyle Group say that while artificial intelligence is revolutionizing the world around us, the Nvidia stock bubble will eventually burst.

Nvidia 's furious rally to become the king of the megacap stocks has also put it above the entire stock market value of some of the world's largest economies. On Tuesday, Nvidia surpassed $3.3 trillion in market capitalization, moving it ahead of Microsoft as the biggest stock in the U.S. But its market cap had already raced ahead of the cumulative value for entire stock markets in Germany, France and the United Kingdom, measured individually and in U.S. dollars. Only India, Japan, China and the U.S. have stock markets bigger than Nvidia alone, according to Deutsche Bank. The rally has also fueled concerns about the concentration of the U.S. stock market in just a few technology names.

How Tesla Shareholders Upheld Elon Musk’s Sky-High PayTesla shareholders on Thursday voted to reaffirm a roughly $48 billion compensation package for Elon Musk, which was originally approved in 2018 and was nullified by a judge early this year. Mr. Musk’s pay package helped him become one of the richest people in the world. Thursday’s vote arose from a court case in Delaware, where the company is incorporated, that voided Mr. Musk’s pay package. California Public Employees’ Retirement System, or CalPERS, the largest pension fund in the United States, also opposed the pay package. The debate about Mr. Musk’s compensation raised questions about the limits of executive compensation and the accountability of Silicon Valley billionaires whose wealth gives them vast influence.
