A video shows a lemur picking its nose, a behavior never before observed by scientists. The animal shoves one of her long agile fingers all the way up her nose to her throat. The video shows Kali, an aye-aye living in the Duke Lemur Center in North Carolina, shoving her 3-inch long finger all the way up her nose, taking it out again, and licking it. A picture of a juvenile aye-aye shows its long slender fingers, which are used to hunt for bugs — and for nose picking. Renaud BoiselThe scan, above, showed the lemur's finger going all the way up its nose to the back of its throat.
(CNN) To most people, the words Swiss sport and Emmental might trigger thoughts of Roger Federer eating cheese. Sending projectiles hurtling through the air at 200 miles per hour, all rise -- and then duck -- for Hornussen. Scoring starts if they reach the 100-meter line, with an additional point awarded for every 10 meters past the marker. "It's really dangerous if you don't see the Nouss or if one hits the bat and, two meters before the face, the Nouss changes direction," Kummer explained. Around 260 teams are active across a multi-league pyramid in Switzerland, with the top teams fighting it out for the Swiss Championship.
Russia has stepped up attacks on Ukrainian energy facilities and cities since Oct. 10, using missiles and what Kyiv says are Iranian-made Shahed-136 attack drones. Tehran denies supplying Shahed-136 drones to Moscow and the Kremlin denies its forces have used Iranian drones to attack Ukraine. "Ukraine currently doesn’t have effective air defence systems against ballistic missiles. Iran will likely supply those (to Russia), unless the world finds a way to stop it," Ihnat said. Ukraine has been aided by the delivery of sophisticated air defence systems from allies including the first of four IRIS-T air defence systems from Germany.
"Russia understood that Ukraine has a powerful energy system, and therefore ... attacked distribution substations, which connected (different) regions," Podolyak said. He also ruled out retaliatory strikes on Russian energy infrastructure. Power has been restored to more than 4,000 towns and villages since the strikes, Shmyhal said, but warned of difficult times ahead. "We are planning to make more candles and order more materials because of these blackouts," she said. The building of the Swiss National Bank (SNB) is pictured in Bern, Switzerland June 16, 2022. REUTERS/Arnd WiegmannZURICH, Oct 10 (Reuters) - The amount of commercial bank cash held overnight with the Swiss National Bank fell by 30 billion Swiss francs ($30.07 billion) last week, data on Monday showed, illustrating how the central bank is tightening monetary policy by reducing market liquidity. Total sight deposits, which include other deposits on sight in Swiss francs, declined to 639.332 billion francs from 669.585 billion francs in the previous week. The SNB raised its policy rate to 0.5% last month as it sought to battle inflation in Switzerland. "At 0,445% the SARON today is not that far away from the official policy rate such that further interventions through bills or repos don't seem that urgent," he said.
Most of the captains were freed after a few weeks once ship owners made unofficial payments to navy intermediaries of between $300,000 and $400,000, the people said. The Indonesian navy has said it never requests or receives money to release vessels. Ledoux, 57, questioned why more wasn't being done by ship owners and governments to raise awareness of the issue. An Indonesian navy spokesman did not respond to a request for comment. Reuters has not seen what evidence was presented at the trial to prove the ship was in Indonesian waters.
The Swiss National Bank (SNB) logo is pictured on its building in Bern, Switzerland June 16, 2022. REUTERS/Arnd WiegmannZURICH, Sept 22 (Reuters) - The Swiss National Bank is going to use SNB bills and repo transactions to absorb liquidity in order to ensure short-term money market rates remain close to the now positive policy rate, governing board member Andrea Maechler said on Thursday. "We are adjusting our implementation approach," said Maechler in comments prepared for a speech she was due to give after the SNB announced a rate hike, adding the new approach consisted in absorbing liquidity via open market operations and a tiered remuneration of sight deposits banks hold at the SNB. The building of the Swiss National Bank (SNB) is pictured in Bern, Switzerland June 16, 2022. The increase to 0.5%, from minus 0.25%, followed a 50 basis point hike in June from minus 0.75%, the SNB's first rate hike in 15 years. The SNB originally imposed negative rates in December 2014 and lowered them again in January 2015 to minus 0.75%. Negative rates were unpopular among Swiss banks, who saw them as a charge on their activities and also reduced lending margins. The Swiss Bankers Association said negative rates meant the country's lenders had borne the brunt of the fight against the appreciating franc.

A new analysis found the Norwegian capital, Oslo, to be the world's best city for work-life balance. The top six cities for work-life balance as determined by the software company Kisi were all European, and no US city ranked in the top 10. According to Kisi's data, workers in Oslo take on average 25 days of vacation a year and get 707 days of paid parental leave. The city also scored highly for remote working, quality and availability of healthcare, and air quality. The surge in remote working means some people have used the past two years as an opportunity to relocate.
