Kristen Stewart Uses Naked Dressing to Make a Point
  + stars: | 2024-03-18 | by ( Vanessa Friedman | ) www.nytimes.com   time to read: +1 min
Even in the context of the current pantsless trend prevalent on the runway and in some celebrity circles, as well as the vogue for thematic dressing at movie openings, Kristen Stewart’s looks during her press tour for “Love Lies Bleeding” have stood out. Rarely has an actress been so unapologetically, gloriously undressed. That’s a lot of subtext under very little — clothing, that is. Margot Robbie had fun dressing à la Barbie during her “Barbie” press tour; Zendaya captured eyeballs and social media during her “Dune: Part Two” camera calls dressed in sci-fi-themed Mugler, Givenchy and Alaïa; and the cast of “Godzilla Minus One” walked the Oscar red carpet in matching lizard-heel footwear. But with her “Love Lies Bleeding” appearances, Ms. Stewart took the concept of character cosplay to a new, more pointed level.

New York CNN —The New York Stock Exchange opens every workday morning at 9:30 am ET with the fast-paced bang-clang of a gleaming brass bell. The stock exchange, the largest in the world by market capitalization, has opened with sonic fanfare for more than 150 years. From Wall Street to the Nasdaq Exchange in Times Square to the Chicago Board Options Exchange, loud, ringing bells bookend each trading session. Stock exchanges say that the bell ringing remains both a critical guide and a ceremony that celebrates the market’s resilience through devastating lows and exuberant highs. The stock exchange had been closed since two hijacked commercial airliners were deliberately crashed into the World Trade Center's twin towers on September 11.

While some music critics praised Knowles' country tracks, other fans of the genre refrained from a warm welcome. Beyond just radio, Black artists and artists of color represented less than 4% of country songs played on the radio, airplay, charting songs, artists signed to major labels and award nominations, according to SongData. One such fan, Tenley Patterson, 26, said she didn't bother listening to country music before Beyoncé's releases, but was impressed with the country tracks. Rachel Whitney, head of editorial for the Nashville team, said playlists outside of the country genre are playing Knowles' country tracks, broadening its reach. The Beyoncé draw is also boosting exposure for other artists on some lists, like Lainey Wilson and Cody Johnson, who have more "traditional" country songs, Whitney said.

Aspen Has 153 New Acres of Terrain. Cue the Champagne.

The influencers were not in Aspen to ski. In their Barbie-pink ski suits and matching Moon Boots, they rode the Silver Queen gondola to the top of the mountain, smiling and jumping for their cameras and social media feeds. Soon they would get back on the gondola and ride down, perhaps to pose for more content with a glass of Champagne at Ajax Tavern at the resort base. They did not care that after almost two weeks without snow in what was already a below-average year, a storm had finally come through, replenishing the mountain’s steep slopes and giving skied-out bump runs new life.

CNN —The public absence of Catherine, Princess of Wales, has grown from a niche royal watcher concern to an international punchline in a matter of weeks. Droves of amateur detectives have crafted timelines and deep dives into the princess’ movements over the last few months, combining real concern with outlandish conspiracy. The uproar, the theories, the analyses, the jokes and, yes, the serious concern — they all show the multitude of ways people interact with and view the royal family. “Not [the royal family] specifically, just anyone in that kind of position.”Catherine, Princess Of Wales is seen during the opening of Evelina London's new children's day surgery unit on December 5, 2023 in London, England. Christopher Nolan didn't just get Oscar gold for "Oppenheimer," he also made a whole lot of green. "Oppenheimer" — which took home seven Academy Awards this weekend, including Best Picture — earned more than $950 million at the global box office, buoyed in part by its 70-millimeter IMAX release. Nolan's earnings were boosted by box office escalators as well as bonuses for winning both Best Director and Best Picture, according to the report. Reports of Nolan's payday arrived on the heels of a Forbes report that Margot Robbie took home $78 million in gross earnings thanks largely to the massive success of "Barbie", which raked in nearly $1.5 billion at the box office. AdvertisementTheir last big hope: That if the awards featured big movies people have seen or at least heard of, audiences might return. That was supposed to happen this year, when monster hits "Barbie" and "Oppenheimer" were both up for multiple awards, including Best Picture. And the producers for ABC's broadcast smartly leaned into it, by doing things like bringing in "Barbie" nominee Ryan Gosling to sing and dance, to general acclaim. On the other hand: That means this year's telecast still drew considerably less than the 23.6 million viewers who watched the 2020 show, which didn't have anything like "Barbie" or "Oppenheimer," box-office-wise. Back then, a couple of the Best Picture nominees were ones regular folks may have seen in theaters, including "Ford V. Ferrari" and "Joker."

The comeback of live event TV continues. ABC’s telecast of the 96th Academy Awards on Sunday drew 19.5 million viewers, hitting a four-year viewership high, according to Nielsen. The live TV audience was up from last year’s 18.8 million, the third consecutive year that Oscar viewership has grown. The ratings report will prompt cheers at ABC and the academy, which bumped the start of the venerable awards ceremony to 7 p.m. Eastern, an hour earlier than usual, in the hopes that more viewers would stick around through the final categories. Jimmy Kimmel also received warm reviews in his fourth outing as host, leaving him one away from matching another late-night star who moonlighted at the Oscars, Johnny Carson.
