Dec 28 (Reuters) - Rafael Nadal is hoping that playing in the United Cup will give him the confidence boost he needs as he looks to defend his Australian Open title next month after being plagued by injuries in 2022. After winning four titles in the first six months of 2022, it was a case of more pain than gain for Nadal since he hoisted the Musketeers' Cup for a record 14th time in June. "My main goal now is to regain positive feelings on the court and to be competitive, and I hope to do that. I'm ready to do it, but we'll see," Nadal told a news conference on Wednesday. "Right now I'm just focused on having a competitive level.. on playing at the highest level possible and being competitive and fighting for everything."

Dec 16 (Reuters) - Former Paris St Germain boss Mauricio Pochettino has said it is absurd to debate Lionel Messi's defensive work as the Argentina captain gets ready to lead his side into the World Cup final against France on Sunday. "Honestly, I think the debate about Messi's defensive work is stale, almost silly," Argentine Pochettino, who coached Messi at PSG, told The Athletic. "That's the most important thing about this Argentina team and the reason why they are in the final. It's because the players understand their roles perfectly. Messi's Argentina will appear in their sixth World Cup final when they face France, as they look to claim a first title since 1986.

Messi, 35, will be playing in his fifth World Cup and will be accompanied by fellow veterans Angel Di Maria and Nicolas Otamendi along with fresh faces who helped Argentina win the Copa America title last year. Dreams do come true, let's go Argentina," Paredes, who did not make the final cut for the 2018 World Cup, said on Instagram. Oct 19 (Reuters) - Thirty-six years after Diego Maradona helped Argentina beat Germany to lift the World Cup in Mexico City, the shirt he wore in the game has returned to his homeland. This shirt allowed us to hug each other when we won the title of Mexico," AFA president Claudio Tapia said in a statement. Maradona set up Jorge Burruchaga for the winner in the 1986 final at the Azteca Stadium as Argentina triumphed 3-2 to claim their second World Cup title. Maradona's "Hand of God" shirt, which he wore when he scored two of the most famous goals in soccer history against England in the 1986 World Cup quarter-finals, sold for a then-record 7.14 million pounds ($8.01 million) at an auction in May. That shirt is on loan to the Sports Museum in Qatar which is hosting this year's World Cup starting on Nov. 20.
Under the policy, up to 24,000 Venezuelans may apply for humanitarian entry into the United States by air. U.S. officials told Reuters that 300 had been expelled border-wide from the United States the day before. Ramirez said her husband was allowed to stay in the United States while she was sent back on Thursday, a move she called "inexplicable." Those trekking over land toward the United States have an arduous route through Central America and then into Mexico. The U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) did not immediately respond to questions about the separated Venezuelans.

MEXICO CITY, Oct 11 (Reuters) - Mexico fans have been advised by their government not to wear their colourful 'Lucha Libre' wrestling masks at World Cup matches in Qatar to comply with local rules. The masks of classic fighters, such as 'El Santo' and 'Blue Demon', are popular among Mexico fans, who routinely wear them at international competitions such as the World Cup and the Olympics. However, Qatar's World Cup organisers, the Supreme Committee for Delivery and Legacy (SC), told Reuters there was no policy prohibiting masks at the World Cup. "Full face masks, such as the famous Mexican wrestling masks, would obviously have to be removed for security reasons heading into a stadium," the SC wrote in an emailed statement. According to world soccer's governing body FIFA, Mexico will have one of the biggest fan contingents at the World Cup.
Gabby Jones | Bloomberg | Getty ImagesBenefits of bundlingFor consumers that buy many streaming services already, purchasing a bundle of them for a discount would be an instant money saver. For corporations, pushing together streaming services reduces the number of people who cancel each month, known in the industry as churn. But those companies also offer their own competing streaming services – The Roku Channel, Prime Video and Apple TV+, respectively – which could deter broader partnerships. Wireless companies already offer promotional pricing to streaming services as sign-up bonuses. From the standpoint of niche services, Peacock hasn't come to them with a coherent strategy, according to several people familiar with the talks.

Some jazz trends that may come to define this decade are already taking shape, and a major one is happening at the keyboard. Pianists are moving with greater ease and intent between melodic passages and abstract ones, and doing so more routinely than before. But while some younger players (such as David Virelles , Marta Sánchez and Micah Thomas ) have adapted the technique, this isn’t a youth movement. Such veterans as Angelica Sanchez and Sylvie Courvoisier have made it a prominent part of their arsenals, as have midcareer players like John Escreet and Orrin Evans . Angelica Sanchez’s “Sparkle Beings” (Sunnyside, due out Sept. 23) and Mr. Escreet’s “Seismic Shift” (Whirlwind, Oct. 7) both feature stellar sidemen and showcase this style along with other increasingly influential aspects of their work.
